Has there been any reputable source that has supported this rumor? I would think there would at least be mention of the signing as a possibility in the local papers if the Cubs were seriously considering it.

damn, he must be in bad shape if they're not even going to give him a spring training invite.

That's what I was thinking. Thye likely believe that while he could handle the bat, he likely isn't in physical condition to play in the field which he would have to do for an NL team.

How do you explain Glenallen Hill, circa 98-00?

That was before Jim liked guys who can catch the ball.

I've always felt that Juan G has had the benefit of steroids and would be close to worthless if he made the team.

If he convinced Jacque to use them, Juan could perform a great service to the team.

...by either:

A) enhancing Jaque's performance or

B) getting him baninated from the team

My thinking exactly.

Not a big Jacque fan?

I was guessing somewhere along the lines of the fact that it would be so cool if we could somehow undo this whole Jones Fiasco, remove him from the roster without owing him money, that it would deserve a new term all on its own.

Sort of like de-signing the guy?

Heh heh. Me neither. As a measure of my non-fanhood, I would have preferred to see Burnitz' $7M option picked up, and I'm one of Burnie's biggest anti-fans.

MESA, Ariz. -- The Cubs worked out veteran outfielder Juan Gonzalez in Puerto Rico last week but decided not to offer him an invitation to spring training.

Rotoworld's take is kinda funny

The Cubs are looking at free agent Juan Gonzalez, who also says the White Sox and Red Sox are interested in his services.

Yeah, everyone is interested. That's why it's February 21 and he's still unsigned. All three teams would probably only have him play against lefties initially. If the Cubs, who are currently watching him work out in Puerto Rico, decide to sign him, he might bump Marquis Grissom off the team.

Only 3 teams? Macias' agent said 6 teams were interested. That took some guts.
