Heard on ESPN AM 1000 at 6:40 PM Sportscenter Update on 1-5-06:

Bruce has reported that 3 AL teams have expressed interest in acquiring Corey Patterson. The report I heard did not mention the team's names.

If I were to guess, I'd guess: Boston, Seattle and Baltimore.

I think we can guarantee the A's (Kotsay, Bradley etc), Indians (Sizemore), Twins (Hunter), Royals (DeJesus), Yankees (Damon), BlueJays (Wells) and Devil Rays (Baldelli, Crawford, Gathright etc) aren't among them.

We can probably also say with reasonable certainly the Tigers (Granderson, Logan etc) and White Sox (Brian Anderson) aren't involved, but the Tigers are so stupid you never know, and it's possible the White Sox aren't comfortable with Anderson.

The Red Sox definately are though (they have a hole). The Mariners almost certainly too (Reed, but they'll be making contingency plans).

It's one of three then to finish up: Rangers (their CF situation is unclear to me), O's (likewise. Matos?) or Angels (they have a hole unless they move Erstad there)?

I'll go with the Angels as my final guess.

Patterson for Clement?

very unlikely. Clement's contract is ridiculous. My guess is Patterson will be moved for prospects who won't take up space on the 40 man roster. One of those prospects can take his place on the 40 man. However, the 25 man roster is out of room.

I understand patterson probably needs to be traded. But I still think he's going to be a great player. It'll be sad that he wont do it with us.

Matos is horrible. I would take CPatt easily over Matos. He makes way to much and is not a good player.

I think he will too, he's got too much talent not to, but I don't think he CAN do it with us.

why does it seem seattle is shopping Reed? Clement is an interesting idea if we expanded the deal to include Twalk think they would bite?

Patterson and Walker for Clement? I no Walker burned some bridges there before he left but the Red Sox still have some holes left to fill even with Manny staying

Although Corey's name has come up in the Boston media, it hasn't been anywhere near the top of their list - They have a GAPING hole in CF and at leadoff right now in losing Damon and I don't think they're in any position to take on a "project" like Corey. Reed's name in Seattle is coming up ALOT in talks from what I hear.

Keep in mind too that they just got rid of a SS who they think may not have had the ability to "handle" the fans and media of Boston - everyone knows Corey was booed badly last year in Chicago and it doesn't take a stretch of the imagination to think that they didn't affect him - he would get EATEN ALIVE in Boston if he didn't get off to a good start.

As far as Walker goes - I don't see where he would fit with Boston? They just traded for a 2B and if the Tejada deal goes nowhere, they'll likely either trade for Lugo or sign someone like Gonzalez for SS or potentially even go with Cora.

I just don't see the Cubs as a good trading partner right now with Boston unless it would be in some 3+ team trade.

Patterson for ICHIRO

But really, I hope it's Manny, despite the rumors he wants to stay now.

Remember last year at the Cubs convention they said Sosa wont get traded? And within a few weeks he was on his way to Baltimore.

I think Gammons wrote recently that the Mariners want Boston to go out and get them either Patterson or Gathright in order for them to trade Reed to Boston.

We should just go after Reed then.

Don't worry -- after he has had his glory, we will sign him to a ridiculous contract so he can come back here and underperform from the ages of 38-41.

ChicagoSports.com[/url]"]While Baltimore is no closer to making a blockbuster deal involving Tejada, the Orioles are "closing in" on a deal that would send a minor-leaguer to the Cubs for Patterson, according to one industry source.

Club officials would not confirm specifics of the proposed trade, but one source suggested the minor-leaguer would not be one of the team's "top five or so prospects."

Agreed. Patterson will never be a player that Cubs rue the day they got rid of. Now, I am not saying he won't be a good player....but at this stage, I would clearly take Greenberg, Bacon, or Fuld, as the starter in CF over Corey.
