  1. Can't see the Cubs signing all three. One... maybe two. But not three. Other teams want these guys, too. I can't even begin to imagine why the Red Sox would do this. So they could go back on the free agent market and overpay for Kenny Lofton or Dave Roberts? And if they were looking for a SS that couldn't hit, they'd have kept Alex Gonzalez. A young CF signed to a reasonable deal who's shown the ability to hit? Those guys are getting $10 million/year on the open market these days. You're not going to get Crisp with a backup SS that can't hit, a guy who would probably be Boston's sixth or seventh best starting pitcher, and an OK middle reliever.
  2. Manny's an odd apple. "I want out of Boston, and I'm willing to go anywhere! Make that anywhere who's willing to pick up my two option years and pay me $20 million when I'm 38 years old."
  3. I think Gammons wrote recently that the Mariners want Boston to go out and get them either Patterson or Gathright in order for them to trade Reed to Boston.
  4. ...again, not remotely close to being finished, but I just like the three big moves they've made to this point. Beckett is a good gamble, IMO. Mirabelli for Loretta is a steal. Dumping a huge disappointment in Renteria for guy they feel is one of the 5-8 best prospects in baseball could pay off in a big way.
  5. I like what the Red Sox have done to this point. They've still got a lot of work to do... especially of Damon doesn't sign, but they're making one strong move after another, IMO.
  6. Boston's best position prospect is a kid named Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia had been playing 2B in the minors because the organization had Renteria and Hanley Ramirez ahead of him, but when he was drafted out of Arizona State, he was a shortstop. And not only was he a shortstop, but he was voted the best defensive player in college baseball his junior year. Maybe they'll switch him back there? I suppose they could start the season with Alex Cora there, as well. Maybe make a move for someone like Jack Wilson... either way, the best news for the Red Sox is that they can move on from Renteria.
  7. Renteria to Atlanta for 3B prospect Andy Marte, according to this site: http://braves.scout.com/2/476154.html Another good move for the Red Sox, IMO.
  8. No kidding. The Red Sox might want to think about GM by committee for a while. It's getting results at the moment.
  9. According to The Boston Herald: http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=116000
  10. For Baez and Huff? I call bull.
