Wow what a game! I am so dissapointed that USC lost. That sucks! Oh well at least it was a good game. You can't win forever. I just try to put this game in perspective. I just think about that one year with the Cubs and a NLCS and game 6 and .... oh now I'm just going cry :cry:

I'll cut the guy some slack. He just beat the "unbeatable team" who the media has been drooling over for the past month.

 

That's what I'm saying. I hate Texas as much as anyone, but all year it's been Leinart/Bush/USC/3 Peat. PUKE. I can't blame Texas for being a bit overstated, they earned it.

 

Any other scenario, and I'd have been rooting for SC, but they really needed to go away. Listening to the media fellate them for weeks over a 3 peat would have been nearly unbearable. Dealing with all the Texans here will be bad, but slightly more tolerable.

 

Especially since they didn't win the BCS championship 2 years ago. But why bring that up? It's only a lie that this would have been a three peat. With the BCS installed as the system for a "true national champion", no one should recognize the polls at the end of the year at all. No split champions, nothing. If the BCS is the system, then that is the system.

ah geez. C'mon. Let's get real and realize that had the refs made that call correctly, the rest of the game would not have progressed exactly as it did. Everytime there is a "refs screwed us" argument people always assume an "all thing being equal" mentality. You can't just take out that one play and assume the rst of the game stays as is

 

i don't know...after watching vince young run roughshod all over usc's defense for the entire game, i really don't think texas would have scored once they had 1st and 10 at the 12. usc showed that they could really put the brakes on young inside the 20.

 

your right, the refs should have just called a Texas TD anytime Texas got inside the 20. In addition, after the first several USC possessions in the 2nd half, they should have just given USC an automatic TD whenever they gained posession of the ball.

I think so. A running back who actually can throw the ball. It adds more flavor to the offensive package, and it does give some defensive coordinators/defensive players some trouble.

Fourth quarter observations on Pete Carroll's shoddy defense:

 

I thought Dan Fouts brought up a real good point during the game about Vince Young running to the right. As I recall, that's how Young was beating the Trojans in the fourth quarter.

 

Thus, I did not understand Carroll's defensive scheming against Young:

 

I wanted to see more strong side blitzing because Young is much more effective when he runs to the side in which there is a throw as an option. If you blitz from the strong side against the extra blocker, you bring Young out of his element of running behind blockers and an open field ahead of him. If you're bringing the pressure from that side and leaving your DB's to the weak side in single coverage, you're fine. Young doesn't have the arm to make the run to the left and then throw across his body to hit his receivers. It would have thrown Vince out of his comfort zone and would have taken some incredible plays (as it did anyway) to beat a defense that would work greatly against his strengths. I don't think he would have pulled it off had Carroll recognized how Vince was beating them down the stretch. The pressure would come from the weak side while the DB's are playing in coverage on the strong side and by the time Young gets into the open field, he really hasn't had to alude tacklers in order to make the run more difficult. It was very poor scheming down the stretch as Carroll was playing into Vince's strength.
