Sorry, I'm plagiarizing from Cards Talk, but there have been some heated comments so far on this topic over there.

Curious to see how Cubs Nation breaks it down.

I didn't feel like reading the entire thread, but I did read the first page. As a Cub fan, I'm glad we have both. If I were an opposing hitter or manager, I'd feel I have a better chance against Prior than Zambrano. However, that's like saying I'd have a better chance against Koufax than Satchel Paige. Sounds like fans are just talking about a coin-toss opinion. During the season even this board talks about Wood vs. Prior, Prior vs. Z and Z vs. Wood.

I hate how the rest of the baseball world sees Prior as injury prone. That is simply a lie and infuriates me.

He's been injured ONCE that wasn't a freak accident. That sure screams injury prone to me.... please.

Card fans would obviously pick Zambrano since they've seen him a lot more... and they've seen him throw his nasty stuff..

I dont want to remind anyone, but really, off the top of your head, do you remember games Vs. Cards were Z was just, dominating?

The no decision vs. Carpenter last season.

He also shut them down in the game that Nomar got hurt. He was an out away from the complete game when Dusty pulled him to put Hawkins in. I think Z had a triple in that game as well due to Jimmy Maybeline taking a terrible route to a ball.

Was that a terrible route or the ball that went straight(pun) under his glove while he was hotdogging?

Best Z memory ever:

Bases loaded, 2 outs, Barry Bonds up. He gets him to hit a liner right back to the mound, Z catches it and his head promptly turns the color of the C on his shirt as he absoloutly flips out.

zambrainless? wow, cardinal fans certainly have trouble coming up with nicknames, don't they?

i really like not having to choose between these two. hopefully we don't have to when they near free agency. if forced, i'd choose prior, only because he's probably my favorite player in the majors.

I'd pick Z if only because he can apparently throw 130+ pitches 6-8 times a season without it having any kind of negative connotation at this point. He's a horse. I have to think he has about the highest trade value in the majors besides Santana and perhaps Cabrera/Pujols.

Naturally, Z gets blasted for that by most fans even though Bonds would have pitched a tent and stared at the ball for 30 seconds if he had hit a home run in that AB.

Wasn't there a game in Milwaukee in 2003 where Z had a one-hitter going into the ninth inning? That's my favorite Z memory, because he looked completely unstoppable.

Also had one last year against the Dodgers, I forget the 1 hit he did give up... I think it was a little bloop that went over Neifi's head.

Bonds didn't take kindly to that ... didn't he say after the game that Zambrano "better learn to respect", or something stupid like that? Bonds, who flips his bat and stands at the plate watching his moonshots, talking about old school respect ... what a joke.

btw that was one of my fave big Z memories too. another was watching him run out a triple or two last year, complete with a belly flop into 3rd (which makes you cringe til he gets up and looks ok). LOVE that kid!

Was that the one where the only hit of the game was a botched call at first, or am I thinking of something else?

I can't find the exact quote anywhere, but I believe that was when Carlos fired back with words to the effect of 'my father taught me not to be afraid of anyone, I'm not going to start with him (Bonds)'

Over the past three years Z has almost completely shut down the Cards, but only has a 4-3 record to show for it. In 11 starts, his BAA vs Stl is .205, WHIP = 1.02, 69 K's in 85 IP ... but only 4-3, that's just criminal.

I was at wrigley in mid 04 when Z got tossed for plucking Edmonds twice. It was the single most exciting game I've ever been to.

I love this rivalry.

I was there, with my best friend. A Cardinals fan.

It's quite better then the "crap" ESPN hypes up every yr between Boston, and New York. Heck, I would even say LA/SF is a better rivarlry then Boston and NY.

When Z went a strong 6.1 IPs, but more importantly, he went 3-4 with 2 RBI's against Dontrelle Willis.

Z and Willis, now there are two guys that I like to watch play. I don't always agree with Z's antics, but at the same time he really brings back the intensity to baseball almost every day.

Favorite Z memory: Gotta go with the Bonds linedrive. That was just great baseball. It was about time that somebody stood up to him.

Speaking of which, anybody have the clip of that play, and also the one where, I think, Bonds took a step towards the mound and Prior took a step towards homeplate, as if they were going at eachother?

I think it was against Houston in '03 (I think). Dusty left him in to hit when we were down 3-1 (I think) and he hit a 2 run homer to tie it up. Alou hit a homer an inning later and we won :)
