Big Ten opener in the books. IU 70, Michigan 63. Didn't get to watch, but looked like it was a pretty decent game. IU led the majority of the game, but it was very much in doubt until the last minute or 2. Michigan destroyed IU on the boards. Reigning conference player of the week, Robert Vaden had 17 all in the 2nd half.

IU looked very good at times, then very shaky at times. That said like a good team they found a way to win. You guys are very good this year. Especially once White gets all the way back. Sims should be ashamed of himself, Graham Brown was their dominate post player, ridiculous. Tommy Amaker could you please at least stand up and say something to your players once in a while. You are getting paid.

I would expect IU's shooting to get worse in the big ten season and when their legs start to get tired. the difference in shooting for the illini at the end of the season got much worse. I would be willing to bet they win the NC if they get a week off between the semifinals.

 

Illinois lost the national championship game in the first half... I think they only shot like 27% in the first half. Their second half shooting improved as well as their defense in the second. To me, they were a streaky shooting team all last year.

 

I will always blame your school for giving NC another Championship. The refs put them there and I wanted you guys to rip it out of their grubby little blue hands.

Yeah we should have beaten them, but they were damn good too. Didn't Deron also shoot one on line that rimmed out? If we could have just gotten the lead I think we would have won. They were panicked.

i expected a more polished and poised MSU team. they looked real bad in the last few minutes. heck, everyone but dee looked bad.

The Illini defense is just filthy. Dee was ridiculous, but MSU wasn't going to win scoring only 50 points. The illini may be iffy on offense, but that defense is as good as there is, and will keep them in ANY game.

 

MSU's three "stars" = OWNED.

People were saying something to that effect earlier in the year. Saying that he isn't as good as he looked last year because he doesn't have Deron anymore.

 

Also, I wonder how the Sun-Times feels now about their saying that the Illini would finish 5th in the big ten.

I hate Musberger. And the UI defense is better than I thought. If someone would have told me the Illini would only score 60 and beat MSU, I wouldn't have believed them. MSU is an explosive team and were just shut down. Dee Brown isn't going to play like that every night, but Illinois will be able to ride that D.

 

Having said that, the rest of the offense needs work. A lot of it.

I'll continue to say if we score 65+ points every game, we might only lose one or two games this year.

 

As an alum, I hate how many alumni get the choice seats particularly in the A section behind the benches. All they do is sit on their hands. They're the fans that are there just to be seen or so they can brag tomorrow at the water cooler how they were at the game. The way the Assembly Hall is made doesn't create for a true "home-court" advantage. The sound level never gets real high in that building. It was even worse several years ago before they added more floor seats opposite the benches.

Augustine and Randle better show up in Iowa City on Saturday. I still don't see any improvement with Augustine's aggressiveness with the ball since his freshman year. Randle is probably our most gifted player but he seems to lose confidence quickly. As great of shape as Dee is in, his legs may be a little heavy come Saturday afternoon.

His athletic ability on the high pick and roll was huge in disrupting the MSU offense. Davis and Trannon seemed to have their way underneath, and Augustine didn't do much at all offensively, but his presence was huge.
