is it just me or is tejada being overrated by some on this board, and now Hendry evidently...

 

people post things talking about how we can expect 40 HR and 130 RBI from him,

 

his line from last year: .302 .349 .515 .864 26 HR 98 RBI

 

he has never hit 40 HR...

 

career OPS of .815

 

he is a very good player indeed but not the world beater he is being made out to be by some

 

 

His biggest value is that he puts up those numbers while playing a solid defensive shortstop. He's the best shortstop in the game and his salary is very reasonable.

 

I think the 40 HR/130 RBI talk was just Manny.

I couldn't stand it if they traded Prior. Not only is he my favorite player (not a great reason, I know) but I really doubt that we'd improve as a result.

I would trade prospects for Tejada, but not Mark Prior. A #2 starter with Cy Young upside (if he ever stays healthy) is more valuable than a slugging SS who is beginning on the downside of his career (age 30).

I admit I do like the looks of this Bedard kid....

Bedard is good. He was tearing it up last year until he hurt his knee and wasn't the same. He also has had TJ surgery and overall is more of a health risk than Prior. He's a lefty who can touch 95mph.

I'm not so wild about just Prior for Tejada and Bedard.

 

Markakis hasn't hatched yet, but there's a very good chance he will and, if/when he does, he'll be exactly what I've been pining for in this organization for years. A lefthanded pure hitter with power.

If Hendry really is serious about trading Prior, and I hope he isn't, he should make it known to all 30 clubs that he's available and see what offers come in.

The worst part is that he's considering trading Prior for what could amount to a 1 year rental, since Tejada can demand a trade if he doesn't like the way the Cubs are going.

Tejada is one of the best everyday players in baseball - a sterling defensive SS who hits for power and average. Prior is all promise, but he's a considerable health risk and frankly, I question his toughness. Tejada, to me, is the more valuable player.

But you also have to consider this:

 

Tejada- 12 million.

Prior- 3.5 million.

 

Even if Tejada is a more valuable player, which I would debate, the price tag makes Prior a better value for ability.

My first reaction to this was " what are the Cubs thinking?" But after thinking about it, it might not be a bad idea. It depends on what you get....someone mentioned that Prior may be unhappy here, who knows? But Prior is going to become expensive very fast. At the end of the day, it depends on what you get.
