Wow, Grudz signed a one year deal with the freakin Royals?! That doesn't make much sense.

I think he turned down the first offer from the Cardinals because he thought the Mets were going to give him decent money. But the Mets moved on and the Cardinals didn't offer arbitration, so he was basically stuck with worse-case scenario.

Interesting. Minaya is really hamstrung by the $8MM owed to Mastui. He had said previously that he wouldn't make a move to bring in a 2B unless he was able to move him first.

Shouldn't this thread be called 'Royals Sign 3 ex-Cubs, and one other"? Mient-something-awicz was a Cub for a couple of minutes during the Nomar trade, I thought...

Yup.. I was about to make that same smart comment...

So now that the Royals signed Grudzielanek, Elarton and Mientkiewicz...

1. This could be the time when Jacque Jones becomes a Cub, since that might have been Jones' money that was spent on those three guys.

2. Now that Grudz is off the table for the Mets, do they open up the Walker conversation again?

None at all. He's better than that. I guess he's in the back-up-for-a-contender-or-start-for-the-Royals category.

I bet that right side of the infield has the longest name combination of any right side ever.

Walker, Patterson, prospect for Floyd?

They sort of need a 2B, they would need a OF to replace Floyd, and they'd also need something else.

Grudzielanek-Mientkewicz would be pretty damn hard to beat.

Grudz. It's a nickname he picked up when he was playing poorly for us.

Actually, I think that "Grudz" was a nickname he picked up in the mid-90's when Harry (wisely) decided to take a mulligan on pronouncing his name.

Or as Ron Santo called him "Grunz"
