God, people flip out about the stupidest stuff.

No, Todd Walker is not anywhere near as valuable a player as Tejada, but offensively, they are just about historically equal. You can ignore the facts with whatever cliche "he just produces!" or "he's so clutch!" sayings you want, but the facts are Walker is offensively, just about equal to Tejada. Now, if you want to say that Walker doesnt stay healthy, or that Tejada plays a much more valuable position, that's true.

Of course, no one that pointed out the Walker/Tejada thing was saying that.

I was just on another message board where they were advocating trading Aram for Miggy. Someone told me I was dumb when I posted that Aram was a better hitter.

That's actually an interesting trade idea. I don't know if it makes sense for the Cubs but the player exchange is interesting.

Don't think the birds need a 3b but maybe a dh.

Maybe Dusty could DH for them...I'd throw in a valuable prospect as well to get Mazzone in that kind of exchange.

Nah, Javy Lopez will DH. I just thought it was interesting from a player value stand point. In a "who has more pure value" sort of way.

My early prediction: He ends up on the Red Sox in a 3-way deal for Manny.

With the Red Sox in the market for a SS, I'm not sure a 3-way is even needed. Send Manny to the Orioles and Tejada to the Red Sox.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRADE CLAUSE!

Both those guys are asking to be traded, who has the NTC, Manny?

Yes, Manny has 10/5 status. Why would Manny want to go to Baltimore?

Well, what if the Red Sox approached him with this:

Manny, we know you want out, so we tried to accomodate you. The only team we found that would take you and give us what we would need to let you go is Baltimore. If you want to be traded, fine. We can do this deal with Baltimore. If you regect it, we will no longer pursue to trade you and you will either be a Red Sox or sit out the next three years. By the way, if you don't play, we won't pay you and we'll seek to recoup 3/5 of your signing bonus.

But then you're working under a false pretense that Baltimore is going to be the only team to give up what's necessary for Manny. I think you're greatly underestimating the situation and that your scenario is entirely outlandish and unrealistic.

EDIT: Also let me say regarding Kerry Wood (kinda off topic, but on the subject of NTC's, so I digress) I think he may accept a deal to a team if they were to give him a long term extension as part of a deal. That kind of opportunity really doesn't exist for Manny at this stage in his contract.

some idiots (o's fans, too) on the o's message boards are saying Tejada for Cedeno, Hill and Guzman... uhh, OK!

Call me an idiot, but I might do that deal. I still hold on to Williams for depth this year or to trade for a RF. Cedeno is superfluous if I get Tejada. Guzman has a great ceiling, but I can't overlook the injury risk. I'd probably make that trade.

Maybe I'm just missing something but what is Manny's beef with the Red Sox?

He claims he has no privacy in Boston.

I don't have a problem with your scenario Vance - I think the Sox are under no obligation to trade Manny and when given that choice he will play ( and hit well ) rather than give up his 20 million.

Wow. In many of these scenarios, we are completely depleting our farm system. Let's not forget that in 2003 Tejada put up this line:

.278/.336./.472

Or in 2001:

.267/.326/.476

Even if he has an average year, he will be the third best hitter on our team. In fact, I think Murton's numbers will come very close, as well. this is not worth selling off the farm, IMO.

If were going to give up Hill, Pie, Guzman, etc., then let's just go after the other Miggy.

Done.

Seconded.

O's fans would make that deal???

Maybe we aren't the only ones overrating our prospects after all...

I'd jump at it.

You'd be crazy not to give up any four prospects in our system for Tejada - and the Os still wouldn't do it. If they'd take Cedeno, Guzman, Hill and Williams I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Posted

yes folks i would part with cedeno, pie, and rich hill or guzman. with tejada and pierre, we can officially make a WS run. barring injuries, which kills us 90% of the time, on-paper we're WS caliber. we just need to fill that last OF spot, possibly with jacque jones if need be.

CF oierre

2B walker

1B lee

SS tejada

3B ramirez

RF jones

C barrett

LF murton

that is WS caliber. the 3-4-5 hitters are as good as any trio in baseball, period. if aramis stays healthy, that is a RIDICULOUS lineup. absolutely ridiculous. you go for broke if tejada is on the market. our 3 best prospects for him and his monster contract (he's worth it and then some IMO).

Posted

Any four prospects for Tejada, Patterson + Wellemeyer for Milton Bradley.

Pierre

Walker

Lee

Tejada

Ramirez

Bradley

Murton

Barrett

Prior

Zambrano

Maddux

Rusch

Williams (until Wood is ready)

Now THAT, my friends, looks like a NL pennant winner.

Stupid question, I've never seen Murton play, but I've seen Cedeno play. Why do we value him so much more then Cedeno?

Murton's OBP was .386 in his 140 AB. He also hit 7 homers, which over a full season is a 30+ homer pace. He was the Cubs' most reliable player besides DLee over the last two months. And Dusty naturally avoided playing him whenever he could.

Alright I'll give it to ya. I still would like to hold onto Cedeno at any cost.

Alrighty. Let's look at it this way:

Who do we have at SS next year, as of right now? Cedeno (I refuse to believe that Neifi will play). What kind of line do you think he'll put up?

I say something like .270/.320/.400. Not too shabby, not too great. What would Tejada put up? .300/.350/.500. A significant upgrade. .30 points in OBP, .100 in slugging. But we'd have to gut our farm system and take on a big, if reasonable, contract to get him.

Now. Who do we have in RF next year, as of right now? Nobody. Nobody will put up a line of .000/.000/.000. Or, if you like, John Mabry, who, if starting in RF all year, would put up a line of .210/.260/.370 or the like. So what would Milton Bradley put up? .275/.350/.440. Not extraordinary, but pretty strong. But it IS an enormous upgrade over what we've got now (.90 points in OBP, .70 slugging), and it wouldn't cost very much at all in terms of prospects or cash.

So which do you take: the significant but not extraordinary upgrade at SS that costs your farm system and 40 million dollars? Or the huge upgrade in RF that costs a solid but not premium prospect or two and maybe 5 million dollars? And before you say "both," consider what that would do to our farm system as well as our big league rotation and our payroll, and if it could even be done. Tejada just isn't worth "any four prospects," as some people have suggested.

First, Muntjack, nice avatar. Let's not jump all over Tejada just because he's new slang. Honestly we need to move Corey before we bring in another batter who has good potential for a high OBP only to be outdone by swinging away like he's swatting at flies with tooth floss.

I'd take Trot Nixon and see how long we could wait out the Javier Vazquez situation before going all in for Tejada. We don't need to unload the farm just yet.

I highly doubt that Tejeda wants to play anywhere other than the east coast, a friend of his told a newspaper BOSTON would be his #1 choice, and I doubt that the O's would trade him to a division rival unless the deal was heavily weighed in their direction. Manny wants to go west, that is 1 reason the Mets deal fell apart.

Personally, I am not sure he is what the Cubs need. Do any of you think that Miggy could have been on steroids while he was in Oakland? Just a thought...his #'s were way down in the 2nd half this year...7 hrs in his last 300 abs.
