Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000 just reported that the Cubs have made an offer to the Marlins for Juan Pierre. The package would be Nolasco and Pinto. He said the Cubs may have to include Rich Hill, but not sure.

He said at this point, sources say the Cubs have the best offer on the table, and are awaiting an answer!

That's how I feel, too. I don't think either will crack our rotation, but I think we could get more for them in a deal than Pierre. I find it hard to believe, for instance, than those 2 plus one more couldn't get Lugo and Huff.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet a lot that JH would be looking for a youngster with some upside to come back with Pierre in the deal. He's tricky like that. I'd be willing to part with Nolasco and Pinto, but we could probably weasel out a decent young player in return as well.

Getting Pierre keeps Neifi out of the leadoff spot. I won't be mad if his obp is .370 either.

And what if it's .326 like it was last year?

I'll take it. With Pierre leading off, who hits second? With Dusty in charge, it's gotta be a righty, so maybe, just MAYBE, Murton or Cedeno?

Wow, that seams like a lot of talent for Pierre who will probably be here for 1 year. Hendry is set on getting a leadoff man. I would prefer Bradley over Pierre though.

Murton could hit 2nd I think. He has high OBP too, but then doesn't Cedeno, as well?

If he has any clue about how best to maximize the lineup, then it should be Murton.

Cedeno's isn't as high's as murtons I don't believe, but I could be talking out of my ass.

Who would you say has a higher ceiling, Nolasco, or Galligher?

Nolasco by a good margin.

Thats what I was afraid of. :(

so... basically what you're saying is Murton bats 7th next year.

Which means it will be Neifi.

Agreed. I would probably be willing to part with both of them for him, knowing how much the Cubs want a "traditional" leadoff man and to fill our CF hole for 1 year.

That's the chances you have to take. At least it's about .200 points better than Patterson right? ;)

8th. Definitely. Gotta maximize that 8th spot. It's a weakness in most other lineups, but in the Cubs lineup? It's as good as a solid 2hole hitter.

Nolasco by a good margin.

I'm not so sure. Nolasco is already 23. Gallagher is 2+ years younger and has been very impressive in A ball. I'm not ready to say that Nolasco is leaps and bounds over Sean Gallagher. Personally, I'm not sure either is major league talent yet either.
