  1. ACubs Sunday game. A Smylie start. Double whammy!
  2. So what to do with Smylie now? I don’t see Jed DFA him. But if he can’t be trusted as a starter, given how he’s been dreadful in his first inning of work, how can he be trusted in any role coming out of the pen. Except maybe mop up duty in a blow out. I know there a big difference in starting a game versus relief but he has been awful in most innings of his very, very short outings. is he eligible to be sent down?
  3. Yeah, but about half of the comments weren’t really relevant after the third inning. It was was like trying to watch a movie with a couple of people continuously talking about the opening scene.
  4. Leading candidate is….Chris Getz?!?! Another internal Reinsdorf lapdog.
  5. Does Ross determine if a minor leaguer gets called up. I’m sure he can voice an opinion, but isn’t ultimately on Jed to make roster moves.
  6. I don’t agree with this at all regarding popularity of the two teams in the 70s. I grew up in the SW suburbs and I don’t recall things being overly skewed toward the WS. From 1970 thru 1980, the Cubs outdrew the WS in attendance every year except 1974 and 1977. And a few years it was by a considerable amount. And this was when the Cubs didn’t benefit from night baseball limiting who could attend games, especially in April - May and September. Also, the Cubs had the benefit of being on a much more regularly watched/popular television station in WGN. Harry went to the in 1975 (I think) but Jack already a Chicago icon. That all said, F the White Sox. I’m a hater because that’s how I was raised (although they’ve been almost exclusively irrelevant in my adult life).
  7. For those not watching, the Rangers had a two run read with two out already, but a man on third. Marte was due up for AZ. Bochum decides to IBB Marte, putting the tying run on first. Don’t know that that was the right move. Next hitter doubles followed by a two run walk off.
  8. He did. Just happens to be a very ordinary reliever.
  9. Well this certainly didn’t age well. And it’s only been 15 minutes.
  10. Don’t know if anyone saw this or not, but on Aug. 15 Seattle’s young star Julio Rodriguez finished the night batting .256. Four days/games later he ended the night batting .278. So he raised his BA 22 points. Not a big deal if this were April or May. Or even June. But it’s the middle of August, and he’s played in almost every game. So how did he do it? He set a record of collecting 17 hits in 4 games, only the second person ever to collect as many as 16 hits in a four game stretch. He went 17 for 21 with two doubles, two HRs and 8 RBI. Crazy ABs!!!
  11. Phillies leading the Giants 6-2 in the ottom of 6. Michael Wacha goes for the Pads against the Fish. Watch is 9-2 with a 2.68 ERA. That is not a typo. Tex/AZ later. Reds/Angels postponed.
  12. Top of 2nd - 2 hits and no GIDPs plus some Detroit sloppiness and it’s 3-0 Cubs.
  13. I was 42,000 two years ago. I’m sitting at 9,200 today.
  14. Unfortunately, it seems like pretty much all (most) TV announcers and analysts talk waaaaaay too much. It’s like they feel the need to continuously fill in every moment of non-action/non-plays. Have an opinion, fine. But at least make it have some entertainment value. Otherwise, STFU! Analysts tend to be the worst, especially in football. Those guys feels they have to break down something on every single play.
  15. Yep, keeping winning series. Expecting sweeps, even against crap teams, is not really realistic.
  16. I would guess the Cubs lead the leagues in GIDP, or at the very least near the top. But they’re actually very near the bottom. They’ve hit into DPs less than all but four teams. I’m surprised.
  17. Two more solo dongs for the BJs, leading Cincy 7-2.
  18. BJs jumping on the Reds quickly. Hunter Greene has given up two 2-run dingers already and it’s still the top of second inning, 5-0 Jays.
  19. Win today and it’s a series win. Of course, it’s a Sunday, so…..
  20. The Padres are a dumpster fire. A really expensive dumpster fire. How safe is Bob Melvin?
  21. A sweep would be great, but I’d be content with a series win. Just keep winning series.
  22. The BP Cup. And that’s why they play the games!
  23. Yanks up 7-3 in 9th over Marlins. Florida puts up 5 to steal the win, 8-7.
  24. That first pitch looked a bit like Kimbrel on the Phillies. The second looked like Kimbrel on the White Sox.
  25. Good thing that didn’t happen to the BFIB’s team or Julio would probably get a FB in the ear hole tomorrow.
