  1. Friday, September 24, 2004 Cubs beat the @Mets and sit at 87-66, maintaining the WC position. The Astros sit behind them at 85-69. The Cubs go 1-7 in their next eight games (1-5 at home) while the Astros go 7-1 in the same stretch (winning 7 straight to close out the season.). What was a 2 1/2 game lead turns into 3 game deficit. LaTroy with two BS in the final week. Cubs treat the fans to a win on the last game of the season. Incidentally, the Cubs were 11-2 prior to the last 9 games
  2. TLR - what a great hire that club made a few years back. I’ll bet Ricky is laughing his ass off.
  3. Iowa put Ben Brown on the 7 day IL on Aug 2. Not certain how that affects a call up, but I’d imagine he’s not available until Wednesday.
  4. Bottom of the 8th, Nats added to their lead and are up 6-3. Top o’the 9th, Pirates added to their lead and are up 4-0.
  5. Those three aren’t on the 40 man roster.
  6. Nine years ago tonight, el Mago got his first start in the Abigail at 2nd base. Starting the game 0-5 with three Ks, he led off the top of the 11th in Colorado with the score tied 5-5. With one thunderous swing, Javy sent one deep over the right center wall for his first hit, first game winning hit, and first MLB HR. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8Kfta1iZ00
  7. So I just watched the entire sequence on MLBTV. Shockingly, Steve Stone (and Jason Benetton to a degree) pinned the incident on Ramírez. Forget the fact that it was Tim who first dropped his glove hockey style and went into a boxing/street brawl stance. As far a Eloy, yep, he was injured. But it looks like his foot was stepped on.
  8. For those not watching, what does this mean???
  9. The Reds have more errors (4) than hits (3). I hope the Cubs broke the Reds.
  10. Looks like it’s Bryce Elder v Javier Assad, and the Chuck Morton v Ace Miller. Small consolation they don’t face Strider.
  11. Completely random thought based on nothing other than it came to mind, but former Cubs coach Brandon Hyde has done a really nice job in Baltimore. His team lost 108 games in 2019 (his first season) and 110 games the year after the Covid season. He gets them just over .500 last year, and this year has them with the best record in the AL heading into August. Props to him!!
  12. For what it's worth, JD thought the bunt in the 9th was the "right play" but poorly executed, mostly because Amaya didn't hustle to first.
  13. After Stroman gave up a double in the 4th inning, the bullpen retired 17 of the next 18 batters, striking out 4 and walking none. Unsung heroes of the game.
  14. I would love for them to be buyers and have it work out. I’m just afraid they’ll go at it half-assed, kinda like free agency so often, and not really make the team better. But at least, ya know, they’re trying.
  15. Once Stone got the “Hawk funk” on him, he hasn’t been able to get it off. He is a shell of his former “baseball analyst”. And often his predictions are like a blind squirrel that eventually finds a nut.
