  1. I hope he pitches well enough over the next two months to have some trade value netting a decent low prospect or player.
  2. Cubs started out 12-9 (on April 21) and were 14-10 in their first 24 games. In the next 24, the Cubs went 8-16. wonder if there's recency bias in the grade. I'd give the Cubs a C, maybe even a C+. They played over their heads early on, but I don't think the team is nearly as bad as the 6-16 stretch. They had some bad luck and lost too many 1-run games.
  3. Surprising to see Eloy Jimenez in a minor league game.
  4. Very small sample size, but he hasn’t fared well in his “away” starts.
  5. Are we switching back to putting “day of the game” game threads in the Fred Hornkohl Forum.???
  6. If my math is correct, I believe Morel is on pace for 783 HRs this season.
  7. I had pizza for lunch. Rocco's Chicago in Tucson. Full disclosure - it was thin crust, yet delicious. Mervis on base three times (so far) is nice.
  8. Zaidman has a face for radio, and a voice for....well, I have no idea. But it ain't sports play by play. I have no reason to believe he's anything other than a decent human being. But there's something about him that makes me want to punch him in the face if I ever saw him.
  9. Jess opened up the Powerade recently.
  10. But feel free to give commentary of your choosing. HOLY SCHNIKES!!!!! Two games in a row without giving up a run+ in the first inning. Way to bear down Cub pitchers!
  11. Now do the pitching.
  12. I know I'm in the minority here, and some would consider it blasphemous, but I find Pat Hughes that great of a "fill in" PbP guy. I don't dislike him or anything. I just don't find him particularly interesting.
  13. Thru 3 innings, Walker has thrown a 1st pitch strike to ALL 10 batters he's faced. Only three times have Cubs hitters swung at the first pitch. The other seven have actually been "right down the middle" strikes. Would like to see them be a little more aggressive second time thru the order.
  14. Marquee picking the announcing team each game, or so it seems.
  15. As the Cubs sag in the standings, so to, does it seem, the enthusiasm to start gam threads. Forgive me for bogarting today's gam thread, but I home, bored, and available (my "go to" line to the ladies). Nico - 2B Swanson - SS Happ - LF Seiya - RF Tauchperson - CF Morel - DH SMash - 1B Luigi - 3B Void - C
  16. UMFan83 - you're taking today's game again, right? Gotta make this a "win streak".
  17. Cubs fans the first few weeks of the season: Cubs fans since: Pitching matchup: Does it really matter? Let's get this out of the way sooner than later:
  18. Just read that Angel Hernandez hasn't umped a game since April 3. That's a shame.
  19. I think the Cubs nice (and surprising) start of 12-7 got most fans optimism up. They weren't as good as that start indicated. Since then, they're 7-15 which is pretty bad. But not completely unexpected. I didn't like the sweep at Florida, exacerbated by the 1-run losses. But even worse was losing 3 of 4 to the Nats, especially after winning game one. A little bit of luck and that 7 game stretch could've been a little different. Otherwise, they really have played, series wise, not too unsuspectingly. They came home and one the Florida series, lost the series to the Cards (not really surprising), lost the series to the Twins (one of the best starting rotations in baseball), and have now lost to the Astros in game 1. They'll probably lose this series and the next at Philly before coming home. And they have a decent shot of winning the home series against the Mets and Reds before facing TB. I can see them going 7-7 in there next 14 to close out the month 3 games under. The schedule should even out a bit after that. Let's hope anyway.
