  1. I agree. I think he will be the DH. Wonder what they do spend money on? Or do they play next year with a payroll under $200M?
  2. I am amazed by how many people hate this team. They are the best team we have had in Chicago since 2018 and all people do is complain about them. I just don’t get it🤷 Yes, they frustrate me too. But they are a good team who had a good year. With no real powerhouse in baseball they have as good a chance as any to go far. And yet there are people who post continually about how bad they are. Maybe watch other teams. Maybe see what they can’t do. Maybe see what the Cubs can do that others can’t do. Again, I get frustrated too. But I watched this team when they won 70 games a year. I watched them when they completely collapsed down the stretch. I sure as hell have no issues watching them now. I know, in the e d they will probably fall short. But no matter what team I was rooting for I would make that statement. When a tournament has 12 teams in it with only 1 winner it is always an easy bet to say your team won’t win. Maybe just try watching and being positive instead of every time a pitcher gives up a run or a batter makes an out with men on base losing your horsefeathers. There is no guarantees that they will be a 90 win team again. Why not enjoy it while it is here?
  3. The misplay by Dansby was a terrible decision on how to play the ball. He tied to charge it to take the short hop to turn a double play. But in doing so he made the play harder. If he waits on the ball he doesn’t get the double play, but he gets an out. Up 6-1 he should take the easy play. However some people go k webinars with Swanson criticism. It was his 11th error of the year. Maybe people should watch other baseball games and see plays other SS don’t make that Cubs fans take for granted. And, as you said, he didn’t give up the homers.
  4. I don’t agree that we should have overpaid. Not if the cost was Horton+. Again, if Keller cost more than Cassie what would Alcantara, Cabrera, Ryan or Gore have costs. Would renting Gallen be worth Cassie? Maybe? But prior to the actual deadline everyone here suggested there was no way a top 100 prospect gets traded for a rental. The mistake was in the off season and also thinking you can add at the deadline.
  5. Oh, I am sure when the Cubs do get eliminated it will be either Dansby or Happ’s fault.
  6. I don’t think a deadline trade for a useful starting pitcher was a reality. Maybe Kelly? But that is about it. From reports since the deadline, it sounds like teams wanted Horton, Shaw, Cassie etc. A combo of those guys. I think the issue is they shouldn’t have put themselves in this position. They should have gotten pitching in the off season. Instead of Rea, maybe they should have gotten Pivetta. It was reported that even the pirates wanted more than Cassie for Keller. The Cubs mistake was expecting pitching to be available.
  7. You can certainly do that. And at this very moment it looks like that is the case. But baseball is a funny sport. They can win just as easily as they can lose. But I do understand why you think they will lose.
  8. If they finish with identical records within the division the Padres would have to be a game behind the Cubs in the standings. If the Cubs beat the Cardinals twice and the Padres lost to the Dbacks twice that would be the Cubs with 90 wins and Padres with 89. Cubs cannot tie the Padres in division record without having more wins than the Padres.
  9. Arizona is a game out of the playoffs. At least they should be trying. And they are better than the Cardinals.
  10. Whatever dude. Your just a troll and a miserable human being. You have proved it through the year and in case we weren’t sure you confirmed it the last 2 days.
  11. SD has the bdacks next. If they win 8 in a row and catch the Cubs they deserve to play at home. I would like to win 4 of 6, and they can. But I do think the Padres will lose a game or two. And if they don’t, we might be playing the Dodgers.
  12. This. Except I don’t think if they go 0-6 they get the #4 spot. But your point is well taken. All that matters is finishing ahead of the Padres. Whether it takes 92 wins to do so, or 89, it doesn’t matter.
  13. I think it they don’t need Sunday for home field they hold Horton to start game 1 of that first series. If they need him for that game and for home field, he just might pitch Sunday. I think home field matters that much. But if they do secure home field before then I agree it will be Horton first. Then Imanaga. You also might see Taillon instead of Boyd. If there is a 3rd game that would be Thursday, so Taillon would be on normal rest. And he has done better than Boyd lately.
  14. Prepare to be disappointed. “At least” 4-2 is a tall order. While I want 4-2 I don’t think it is something to shoot at as the low bar.
  15. Maybe now is the time to point out that you were the first to resort to name calling. I believe I was called a crybaby because I said I wouldn’t buy a Shaw jersey. Basically all I said about him. I just disagree with his views so wouldn’t spend money on a product that represents him. I understand people have different views. But their views then do give me the right to like or not like them. Based on many of the views Shaw apparently shares with his “friend”, IMO, he is not a good person. His friends views are those of hatred, division, homophobia, sexist and white supremist all masked in his “Christian belief”. Because of that I am not a fan of Shaw. Why is this view so offensive to you? Why is this being a crybaby?
  16. I doubt they lost the last 3 games in the series because they partied too hard after they clinched a playoff spot. If they did that their foot of the peddle I would guess they would have done that with or without partying because they made the playoffs. Has they not celebrated at all, they still would be playing as they are now. I agree it is not good.
  17. Who cares if they were the favorites to win the division. It is all about making the playoffs and they did that. Because of that they should celebrate. I get your point to Caesar about the brewers overachieving, but to me that has no importance. Cubs do not need to apologize for not winning the division and should be proud of being in the playoffs, period. The last time they celebrated was 2017 when they won the NLDC. In ‘18 the waiting until they won the division, and they never did happen. In ‘20 there was no celebration. They deserve to celebrate now.
  18. Agreed. He is a fine manager. I never feel the guy in the other side of the diamond is better than him and/or it is just a matter of time before he screws up. I don’t always agree with everything he does, but that would be the case with whoever the manager is. And it doesn’t mean he was wrong if I disagreed with him.
  19. Why shouldn’t the Cubs have celebrated? They absolutely accomplished something. Something they hadn’t done since 2018. They made the playoffs and got to celebrate it. Baseball is hard. Teams don’t get to the playoffs every year. They should celebrate.
  20. I’m all for talking about baseball. But that wasn’t what was being discussed. So I gave my opinion.
  21. First of all, typically best friends are a result of people with common interest and/or views. I don’t think someone very liberal would be good friends with someone who is a homophobic, racist, as an example. But in some cases people do have different views. Speaking only for me, if that “best friend” was someone vocal about his/her views, they wouldn’t be my friend long. I know I have friends that think differently than I do. But as long as we are all respectful of the others believes we are good. As for you comment regarding me not buying a Shaw jersey, why is that something you seem to think is wrong? Why would I. I don’t respect the man. I agree there are definitely others who share his views. And if I knew who they were or if they were as vocal about them as Shaw is, I would buy their jersey either. It is my right to buy a jersey of whoever I want. I didn’t say I would boo him. I didn’t even say I won’t cheer for him and root for him to do something that helps the Cubs win. As someone else pointed out, I am a Cubs fan. I root for the team, city and whoever is wearing that jersey. Doesn’t mean I have to like that person or his beliefs. And if I don’t like that persons views or beliefs, why would I wear a nersey with that person’s name.
