  1. This is how I feel too. What is kind of funny is I was at my grandson’s game earlier today and they won being down by 1 run because the pitcher walked 6 guys in a row in the last half inning. I thought maybe Fairbanks was going to do the same thing. Keep in mind my grandson is 9. So pitchers do walk a lot of guys at that level. Sucks to lose, and especially having a guy at 3rd with no outs. But in the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal.
  2. Why can’t it just be a loss? Why is everything so dramatic? What makes this an awful loss compared to any other loss? They are basically running out the season with the probability of finishing as the first WC team. This is just a game they lost. Not a huge deal.
  3. Honestly, the. Cubs are 1-5 against the Giants and the Giants are hot. Both true statements. That said, I would gladly face the Giants in the playoffs. I would much rather see them instead of the Dodgers or Phillies, and maybe even the Brewers or Padres.
  4. Way different scenarios on those guys. Hamilton, I am sure, was someone who maybe they put on the playoff roster as a pinch runner. No other reason for him, so who cares what is happening with him? He isn’t a thing in the regular season. Amaya is someone they can use now and I would like to see some update on him.
  5. Me too. And I have been around long enough to remember the collapse in ‘69. Santo is my all time favorite player.
  6. Why. If the Brewers just take care of their business and end with the best record in the NL (currently up by 2 games and win the tie breaker against the Phillies) they probably won’t see the Giants. And even if they don’t finish first in the NL, the Giants have to get past the Dodgers to play them in rhe NLDC. I doubt the Brewers have any concerns about the Giants. As a Cubs fan, I really hope the Brewers end up with the best record in the NL. I would much rather play them than the Phillies in that round.
  7. Was definitely not meant to offend. All good spirited. And glad to have you on the Cubs bandwagon. Like I said njmerous times, they can very well lose the first round. But they can win too. So why not stay positive. There are no great teams. I do think the Phillies would give the Cubs the most trouble. Hopefully they never have to face them to win the NL.
  8. A convert!!!! Nice to see someone who can admit fault in his thinking and is open to other ideas. Very proud of you papacub. I think we all realize this team has flaws. What many who have them automatically losing don’t have, is an idea of other teams flaws. And most don’t care. Just easy to say the Cubs won’t win. Then when they don’t they can say they knew it all along because they didn’t have enough of this or that. The reason they lost will be filled in after the series they lose, based on why they lost. If they lose low scoring games it willl be they didn’t have enough offense. If the starting pitching falters it will be they knew the rotation couldn’t hold up. If the pen blows a game it will be the pen wasn’t strong enough. The flaw in the team is tbd, based on results of the series. And eventually they can say they were right. While, in truth, as you said, anyone can win. So why not the Cubs? Go Cubs and welcome to reality. 👍
  9. There is no excuse for what she did. I don’t even care if her hand was on the ball at the same time the guys hand was on the ball. It was a ball hit by Harrison Bader. Who cares? Not like it was some valuable ball. To go and confront someone who already have the ball to his kid is absolutely nut job crazy. I understand the guy didn’t want to create a scene with his son there, but honestly I don’t think I would have given her the.ball. Is that teaching your son to give into a bully? Because that is what she was. To later confront another fan and then give the finger to the entire section added to her horrible behavior. She should be ashamed of herself.
  10. Common ground! I just think people focus too much on the cubs and don’t see the warts of the other playoff teams.
  11. No, I wouldn’t agree. I think the end of this is very near. Tucker was coming around and got hurt. Remains to be seen if he is back or not. Happ has done very well. Suzuki went something like 16 straight games getting on base recently. PCA appears to be doing a little better. Yes, they all need to do even better. We need some homers. I agree. But, besides that Hoerner has been very good, Shaw has come around, Kelly is hitting again, and even Dansby has shown some life. Busch needs to get going. No, they are not what they were early in the season. But it is unrealistic to expect that to be the team the entire year. It is baseball. Guys hit then don’t hit. They ar who they are. Typically they even out. Cubs have enough talent to beat anyone.
  12. Padres are 10-15 in their last 25. Cubs are 15-11 (6th best record in baseball since 8/15) Obviously something isn’t working for the Padres either. They are bad against left handed pitching, very low in homers and starting 3 righties against the Cubs. So do you really think the Padres are any better. That is my point. People look at just the Cubs and see their flaws. With all their flaws they are 15-11 since 8/15. Again, Cubs very well could lose the series. But to say I expect them to would be a lie.
  13. You don’t expect the Cubs to advance? You mean beat the Padres? Why is this? You talk about the Cubs starting pitching as if it is bad, but what about the Padres? Exactly why are the Padres better than the Cubs? I will take my chances with Imanaga, Boyd and if needed, Horton, over whatever 3 pitchers the Padres start. Padres are not particularly good against lefties and they will also be starting all right handed pitchers. Cubs don’t have to worry about a left handed starting pitcher. SD also has issues with hitting home runs. Have you been following how bad they have been doing? Sorry, this is just the sort of thing that bugs me. People cutting down the Cubs for not being able to compete with whoever they are going to play, without really looking at the competition and their issues as well. They may very well lose the series. But I wouldn’t say I expect that to happen.
  14. I think he goes to the money. So that would be the reason to think they didn’t try. At least most players go to the money. But at his age and already financially secure maybe location does matter? Maybe he did like Philly more than Chicago.🤷
  15. Just looked at the standings. Instead of hoping the brewers lose and a long long shot chance of the Cubs passing them, I have decided to hope the Brewers win. I want them to beat out the Phillies for the top spot. Much rather play the Brewers if we win a WC round, than play the Phillies. Lead is only 2.5 games.
  16. How is 40-24, .758 ball. It is .625. Far cry from what the. Brewers did over 60 games. Doesn’t matter. The whole season counts. But 40-24 isn’t that amazing for 64 games. Also in 23 and 24 you can probably find a 50-60 game stretch the Cubs played .625 ball. Considering they were at one point in ‘23, 10 games under .500 and later that year were 10 games over .500, I am certain they had only over .625 ball for a time.
  17. Was it? I don’t remember that. Didn’t they trade him where he wanted to go? I am sure a few negative comments were made, but I don’t remember an ugly exit. But you might be right. I just don’t remember it that way.
  18. 270./323./427/.750 against left handed pitching. Way better than Busch. I don’t know why this comes up every time Turner plays for Busch. He has been fine against left handed pitching. There is no charade and no reason to cut bait. But they should only use him against a lefty pitchers. He is useless otherwise.
  19. Honestly, it isn’t the job of Cubs players to make there fans feel good about their chances. As was pointed out to you before, there is a good chance whoever they are playing will also be playing just as poorly as they are going into the playoffs. For the record, 14-10 in their last 24 isn’t playing poorly. It is around a 94 win pace. I think Cubs fans are very unrealistic in their expectations of what good is. And, honestly it doesn’t matter anyway. Cubs can go 8-2 and play a Padres team that goes 5-5 their last 10 and lose. Would that make you feel better than the Cubs going 5-5 their last 10 while the Padres went 8-2, but the Cubs beat them? Playoffs are pretty close to a flip of the coin. Period.
  20. Exactly what I was going to say. Everyone focusing on the Cubs, obviously. But with SD, the likely opponent in round 1, 10-13 in their last 23 games, they must have people lacking in their production. Same with the Brewers or all the other teams except for the Phillies. I understand chibears point, but it goes for every team. There handling to be a struggling team win a playoff series. It is just going to happen.
  21. Besides that a ball in the stands is fair game. I mean, he didn’t wrestle it away from her. He came over, saw the ball and picked it up. She was 100% wrong with what she did. Just ridiculous.
  22. I didn’t hear Counsell’s comment. But based on what you said it does appear to be a canned manager response. That said, if the Cubs think he is one of their 10-12 best pitchers at the end of the year, I don’t have any issues with them bringing him up and having him on thr playoff roster. I am sure they can maneuver the 40 man accordingly.
  23. I agree. Cubs are holding him back for an extra year of control. Just like they didn’t hold Horton back for that reason. It is all about load management. He isn’t going to be in the rotation from the start of the season. He might not even be the first man up, if that man is needed before June.
  24. For all those doomsday cubs fans suggesting they will lose in the playoffs because of how poorly they are playing going into the playoffs, the Cubs and Phillies are the only 2 teams currently in the NL playoffs that have played over 500 ball since 8/15. Granted, I picked a random date to show these numbers. And the Cubs can very easily lose in the first round. But if/when they do eventually lose it won’t be to a team that played great leading to the playoffs. Obviously there are almost 20 games left, so a tr could get hit. But so can the Cubs. What has happened the last 22-25 games has no bearing on playoff success.
