  1. Factoring in the huge centerfield in SF, I think you have to play PCA. If the game was in Wrigley I might think otherwise.
  2. Fedde pitched 2 shutout innjngs in a 1-0 game. Brewers up. He was cut by two teams and was available to 29 other teams before the Brewers could sign him. He sucks and was signed today. And somehow he has pitched 2 without any incident. Is he going to be the pitching version of Andrew Vaughn?
  3. I agree. But who knows that best? Cubs coaches or the fans who post here?
  4. But we really don’t know if the Tucker break was something the staff saw in his swing and wanted him to work something out a few days or a mental reboot. Maybe there isn’t anything wrong with Seiya’s swing. Jason already pointed out it is more as luck than anything else. As I said, if they played. Assume one game, maybe against Webb, I wouldn’t mind. But I don’t think that move increases the Cubs chance to win. It just gives Seiya a day off. While I don’t agree with everything Counsell does, I do trust him to make the right decision more often than I or anyone in our discussions would make.
  5. I can see starting Cassie over Suzuki maybe the next time the Cubs face a righty. But Cassie should not be starting over Suzuki with the exception of giving Suzuki a day to reset. This idea that Cassie gives the Cubs a better chance of winning is not something I agree with. Suzuki has been a very good hitter since he got to the Cubs. He will work his way out of this funk. As I said, 1 day, fine. But Vassie is not his replacement. I am just so amazed at how many people think they know more than the Cubs FO and manager. Everything they do there is someone suggested he knows better. I don’t agree with everything Counsell or the FO does, but I do know they have more data than I do when they make the decision they make.
  6. Yes, I saw this too. But I believe the initial comment was the Cubs would lose the tiebreaker to the Padres, who had a better record against their division then the Cubs did. And up until now they don’t. But I agree that 7 against the Rockies sure helps them. Or course it might help them beat out the Dodgers, who Cubs win the tiebreaker against.
  7. They can sweep. But biggest reason they won’t is because they are playing baseball. Even the bad teams win 40% of the time while the good ones win 60% of the time. Sweeping in unusual regardless of who is playing. They definitely need to win the series and a sweep would be awesome. But expecting it is a little unrealistic.
  8. Last I looked the Cubs were something like 24-17 against the central and the Padres were 21-17 against the West. Padres did take 2 of 3 from the Dodgers but that would but then at 23-18. I could be wrong. I did a Quick Look the other day. But I don’t think it is a certainty the Padres win the tiebreaker Edit: just looked. Both 24-18.
  9. I think if they sign Tucker someone who makes some money will go. I know Happ and Suzuki have NTC, so might be tough. But beteeen them and maybe Taillon someone will go. Then I think they will trade for a controlled pitcher using some of the blocked minor league talent. That pitcher might still be arbitration eligible and not cost that much. I don’t think it is a reach to think they can sign Tucker and still make a trade for at least a MOR arm. Low end for that, to me would be Keller. (Personally I think it will be Cabrera) He would basically replace Taillon. I think the trade for a pitcher is way more likely than signing one. It is also the easier part of the plan to sign Tucker and trade for a pitcher.
  10. Cubs are in the running for the second best record in baseball. They can only control what the Brewers do when they play the Brewers. And they won that season series. So getting upset or criticizing the Cubs because the Brewers are 31 games over .500 is not reasonable. But I agree with you, the reaction is normal. It is what all fans do. I never said it was wrong. I said it was easy to be negative. And even easier to be correct if you are negative.
  11. 🤷 My point is, it is very easy to always be negative. It is an easy win for 29 or 30 fan bases. Thr positive posters are going to eventually be wrong over 90% of the time. But that can be said for all teams. And when the negative posters are finally wrong no one ever calls them out. We are all too happy because our team won the WS.
  12. Yep. Wonder if we can all agree the Cubs have a better chance of catching the Brewers than they do of missing the playoffs all together. Of course the collapse crowd will suggest it doesn’t matter because they can’t win in the playoffs anyway. Just keep kicking the negative comments down the road until the Cubs are eliminated and then say “I told you they couldn’t win”.
  13. I am figuring 21-10 for the Cubs and 16-15 for the Brewers. Cubs win the tiebreaker. It really could happen. Brewers don’t have to play terrible for the Cubs to catch them. Cubs just have to win series.
  14. I have to think it was Tailon’s call. It is strange to only go 62 pitches. But it is 90 degrees out and only Tailon’s second time out. Maybe it is some innings management. If Kittredge has a good inning no one is saying a word about it.
  15. Still hope they add a MOR arm. But sure, Boyd, Steele, Imanaga, Horton, Wiggins and even Tallion wouldn’t be a bad group. Injuries happen and Steele and Wiggins probably won’t be here until June (Wiggins on an innings limit) so the more pitchers they can get the better.
  16. I agree. As I said in the post I was writing as you sent this, I was more wishful thinking.
  17. I know. More wishful thinking than anything else. Wouldn’t mind seeing another guy coming out of the pen with upper 90’s to low 100’s. I know they would have to do a lot of maneuvering to make it happen and it is very unlikely.
  18. Maybe the MLB pen of the Cubs?
  19. And health. But otherwise, 100% spot on. If their offense is performing at even their average production the Cubs will be tough to beat if Boyd and Horton are healthy. Nothing wrong with a top 3 of Imanaga, Boyd and Horton. Pen looks pretty solid too, if Palencia is at his best.
  20. I think the Padres because they don’t have left handed starting pitchers and they don’t hit lefties well. Least favorite opponent would be the Dodgers. Mets might go with Peterson and Manaea against us.
  21. I am pretty sure each of those guys pitched more innings in that streak. Horton does 5 or 6. Still fantastic. Not taking anything away from him, but Jake’s run was unreal.
  22. There are 33 games to go and we are in a playoff chase. Now isn’t the time to play a guy so he eventually gets better at something. Now is the time to play the best player for that day. I am not sure Shaw isn’t the best player. But I am not the coaching staff or the manager. So if they feel Castro is the better player for this particular match up I am ok with playing him instead of Shaw with the hope Shaw improves.
  23. Just being an above average/good fielding 3rd baseman is good enough for this infield. They have good gloves all over the field. Not going to beat Hayes. Oh well. That is fine. Just be good at 3rd and hit above league average and that is a solid third baseman. And I think he can be better than just above league average with the bat. I think he could be a guy who hits .260 with 20+ homers and 20+ stolen bases and maybe even puts up OPS+ of 120.
