  1. 👍 thanks for clarifying.
  2. I never said $80M over 5 years was off. I am talking about Craig saying he made $23M already. He signed a 4 year $53M deal. Wouldn’t he have made $26.5 up to now. So wouldn’t the option be for $53.3M over 3 as opposed to what he is saying, which is 3/$57M. That is all I said to Craig.
  3. I am with you on all of what you said. But I think the numbers are off a little. Hasn’t Shoto made $26.5M over 2 years, not $23M. That would make the last 3 at $53.5, not $57. Or was his original 4/$53 structured to get different amounts per year?
  4. I do think they will keep him. But it isn’t a simple $13.5M a year decision. It is closer to $18M a year for the next 3. Sure the 5 year AAV works out to $16M. But the AAV for the next 3 years is $17.83.
  5. Isn’t Shoto’s contract a little more complicated than being suggested. I thought after 2 years the Cubs had the option of going 3 more years and his contract would total out at $80M over 5 years. If they do not exercise that option Shoto has an option to stay with this current deal. If he declines that option, he is a FA. If that is the wording, Shoto is definitely not a sure thing. Cubs have paid him $26.5M so far. Would they go 3 more years at $53.5? I am not sure about that. Would Shoto leave 2/$26.5 to test free agency? I think he would.
  6. I’m even worse. I live in Arizona. It isn’t even 6 AM and I am in the message board.😅
  7. Is this your attempt to suggest Happ plays selfish baseball? Because he doesn’t bunt? I honestly don’t know how many times he has tried bunting. But I am sure his arrogance or selfishness has nothing to do with him not bunting. And, again, bunting does not mean you are playing selfless, smart baseball. If has been proven time and time again that in many cases bunting is not the correct move. As an example, I was fine with Shaw bunting in the 8th. TBH, I would have been ok with Happ bunting when he came up with 2 on and no outs. But I wouldn’t ever say he didn’t because he was selfish and wasn’t playing smart team ball. He didn’t because Counsell didn’t want him to.
  8. And totally not true. Do you think Happ refused to.bunt? Seriously that is ridiculous. As for Heyward, he hit .210 that year. He should have bunted. Merrill is a clean up hitter. True, the bunt has been around for 100 years, and less bunts occur every year. You know why? Because stats show it is not a correct move. You are right, a bad result doesn’t mean a bad process. Same with Happ. He hit the ball over 100mph and happened to hit into a double play. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right call and doesn’t mean he was selfish (complete nonsense statement) to have swung away.
  9. Except bunting doesn’t necessarily increase your chance of scoring. And they didn’t score.
  10. Maybe. But if he is that bad against a lefty then maybe Schidt made a bad decision hitting him clean up. He runs well, so double play isn’t that likely. Also, what is more likely, scoring a run with a man on first with no outs or a man on second with one out? I seem to remember most if the modern day metrics suggest bunting in that spot not a good idea. Also, keep in mind, just because you decide to bunt doesn’t mean it is automatically man on second with one out. That can be screwed up too. .
  11. I little unconventional going with Kittredge to start the game. I wonder if the plan is Kittredge for 1 inning, Shoto for 4 and maybe Rea, Civale or Soroka for a couple. Then you have lefties and Keller to close it out. They are going to have to get innings from someone other than Keller, Pomeranz and Theilbar tomorrow. Palencia is probably not available. Honestly I wouldn’t mind if the plan was Rea after Shoto and he take it as far as he can.
  12. I thought we can count on Dansby to make errors late in the season and playoffs. Isn’t that what you said previously? So now you are saying his D will be there. So which is it?
  13. He did hit. Lead off the 9th with a single and came around to score. And he didn’t get a big contract for his hitting. He has always been an average hitter. He got the contract, which was the lowest of the given to the top FA SS that year, because of his all around play.
  14. Me neither. But I didn’t like Palencia coming in when he did either. So what do I know🤷
  15. Careful what you wish. You have to remember the nonsense he spews doesn’t have to be factual. Just need something bad to happen so he can go off. My hope is he never shows himself again.
  16. Interestingly enough, had Schidt called it with Bogaerts on 3rd he would have scored on the play by Swanson.
  17. It was the contact play. Ramirez is running as soon as the ball is hit, period. It isn’t bad baserunning. Besides that, playing out. If he doesn’t run they get the guy at 1st. Then the next batter grounds out and they don’t score.
  18. I think bunting with Merrill was a dumb move by Shildt. That is so 70’s baseball and proven not to be the right move.
  19. Since Merrill bunting is showing how to play winning baseball, can you tell me if they scored that inning with that successful bunt?
  20. Padres put Miller in any time of the game they need outs. So no reason the Cubs had to save Palencia. I didn’t like the move because I didn’t trust Palencia. But the reason behind it does make sense, assuming Counsell felt Palencia is the guy to lock it down.
