  1. WOW! Welcome to the site. Hopefully you won’t be around long.
  2. Even if he isn’t extended the Cubs will need to make a decision about him after next season. So it is a discussion worth having. What makes you think the Cubs don’t value him?
  3. Not true. If the Cubs decide not to turn his contract into a 5/$80m at the end of this season he can opt out. They paid him $23m so far. So if they don’t want him for $57m the next 3 years the would then leave it up to him if he wants to stay in the same 4/$53M he currently has. If he doesn’t he is a FA.
  4. I would say from the Cubs standpoint Marte contract is a good guide. Nico is close in age to Marte’s age when he signed compared to when Nico will be up. But I think the Dbacks got a deal with Marte. I would expect Nico closer to $22M a year. Maybe 1 less year.
  5. You say this, and it makes perfect sense. But earlier you said if an extension cost much more than 5/$100M you are walking. And, again, you proved it should be more than that. So do you just not want Nico, even realizing he is worth it? Is 5/$115 too much for you to consider? Shouldn’t Nico expect that?
  6. They won the season series against the Brewers, Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, & Guardians. That is 5 playoff teams out of the 11 other playoff teams. They tied the Padres. They didn’t just beat lousy teams.
  7. Because then Boyd gets 2 road games. If Boyd pitches game 1 he gets game 4 at Wrigley. Keep in mind I am not saying I like the decision on Boyd. Just thinking of reasons it could have been made. Boyd has a huge difference in home versus road numbers. You want him at Wrigley. As for game 5, my guess is the plan would have been Shota. But that is really an everyone available game even if it starts with Shota. Just remember we are talking about this after 2 failed starts. I am saying the Counsell decision was prior to the 1st game. We didn’t know it would end this bad. On paper I would have rather it been Boyd, Imanaga, Tailon, Boyd, Imanaga. I am sure that was the Cubs thinking too. Just didn’t work.
  8. It’s like Yogi Berra once said. Baseball is 90% mental and the other half physical. 🤷😬
  9. I think if there is a game 4 it will be Quintana. I would think the Brewers would hold Peralta to game 5, hoping they can win without him in game 4 and have him ready to start the next series. I think that is why they went with a pen day yesterday. Also, I didn’t want Boyd on short rest either. But I do understand the thought process. If he can give you 12 outs he then lines up for game 4, on normal rest at Wrigley. Boyd has been really good at Wrigley. If we are being honest, there were no really good options. Counsell picked one and it didn’t work. Same with game 2. I think Imanaga was the obvious choice. He pitched well against the Brewers this year and even with giving up a crazy amount of homers, but for his last start of the regular, did fine for 6 weeks leading up to the playoffs. Even with giving up homers his era was under 4.
  10. What? Two sides are negotiating. It absolutely matters what the players want. Now maybe provisions are made with a floor and a ceiling and free agency comes earlier or whatever provisions need to be made for the players to agree on it. But they do get a say and have to agree to it.
  11. I think if the owners push for a cap it is going to be a long lock out. Players do not want it. I am not sure we will see a salary cap.
  12. How does a contract work in a lock out? Why should it matter if he got a short term deal with opt outs the first 3 years? Is he paid anyway, if he opts in?
  13. Didn’t think we could get through a thread where the Cubs are losing without your expert analysis. So please, Mr baseball, tell us why Counsell is dumb, now?
  14. Sorry dude. But the Cubs aren’t just going through the motions. Brewers are just beating them. So you really think the Cubs aren’t trying? I mean, really? Take a second and think how ridiculous that statement sounds.
  15. Yep. Two weak hits and a homer and they didn’t get out of the inning.
  16. Don’t normally comment on announcers, but could these guys be any further up the Brewers ass than they are. In both games they said Turang was the best fielding second baseman in baseball. Today all they are talking about is how amazing the brewers are to have gotten this far either all their pitching injuries. Talked about Woodruff being out now. What about Horton? Havent heard him being out mentioned yet. What about Steele all year? Really annoying.
  17. Those watching the Phillies game will see Hernandez scored on the contact play. Also, he scored because Turner made a bad throw. Remember Turner’s defense when comparing his signing to the Cubs signing Swanson. FYI, a good throw from a good SS gets him at home.
  18. I agree this is one example of something he should have done in the off season. Maybe also talk to the Marlins about Cabrera or Alcantara too. In the off seeing the price wouldn’t have been as high. He and TR TOGETHER put themselves in a bad spot at the trade deadline. So not blaming him for not making a deadline deal is probably a correct opinion. But you can blame him for putting himself and the team in a position to have to overpay. And that’s what I blame him for.
  19. Then he should be fine later in the game against a lefty.
  20. Giving Jed a pass on not adding a starting pitcher at the deadline is not the same as giving him a pass on now not having enough starting pitching. He went about his business in the off season with the thought he had a lot of money at the deadline and enough prospects to add whatever he had to add. That was a serious miss. He is who made that determination. He should have realized the market would be hard. They saved Bellinger money so they can add whatever they needed. So why not do it in the off season. I thought originally the Bellinger deal had Warren coming back. Warren threw 160+ innings this year in the Yankees rotation. That didnt happen because TR wanted the Yankees to eat more of Bellinger’s contract. Again, supposedly to have that money at the deadline. Had Jed insisted on Warren and the Yankees not take as much of Bellinger’s contract on, the Cubs would have had another starter. He wasn’t great. But he was ok. And he could have taken some innings from Boyd and maybe even Horton. Maybe they would have been healthier in the playoffs. Jed messed up in the off season. And that’s why we are at least 1 pitcher short.
  21. Not sure why I am now a professor, but I would have there chances more like 40%. But I do understand you suggesting 30%, I just think any team that gets to the final 4 has better than a 30% of beating any other team. . Especially so, if that series goes 5 games. As you did say, however, anything can happen.
