  1. It sure about that. If Civali goes 5 shut out innings today and his stuff rates out good, why not start him. I believe one of the more stat savvy posters pointed out Civali’s underlying numbers were really good and what he was doing wasn’t smoke and mirrors, like Flexen.
  2. Wonder if there is a game 4 do the Cubs consider Civali?
  3. Not a fan of adding Brown. But willing to acknowledge the coaching staff knows better than we do. So if they feel he is the guy I trust them.
  4. The only thing I can see as a reason for Boyd today is he can then pitch again in game 4, at Wrigley, on normal rest. If the Cubs can steal one I. Milwaukee I think they can close it out in Chicago with Tailon, who has been our best the last ) starts, and Boyd at home. But if they go to game 5 all hands on deck. Might not even be Imanaga. Anything goes.
  5. Again, why is this talked about 41 years later? Why is this his worst decision. The original poster that said this, acknowledged the next day Sutcliffe was gassed after 6 innings. Game 4, Sanderson was fine. The pen gave up 2 2 run homers. That is why they lost. Game 5 they lost because he left Sutcliffe in to pitch the 7th after he game up 2 runs in the 6th. Maybe that was his worst decision. Maybe letting a tired pitcher go out to pitch the 7th inning was his biggest mistake. Maybe not pitching him in game 4 was because he knew he was in fumes so Frey wanted to give him another day. And had they won he would have had 3 more days to rest. Point is, kind of silly to hold onto this idea of knowing what was best 41 years ago. As my wife always tell me LET IT GO!!!! BTW, side note here. That series is when I discovered what jagoffs Sox fans were. The year before, when they lost in the playoffs I didn’t care. Wasn’t rooting for them or against them. Might as well been the orioles bearing the tigers. I knew a lot of Sox fans so to them I said sorry your team lost. But when the Cubs lost in ‘84 most of my Sox fans celebrated the loss. From that point on I came to hate that team. I treated that team the same way most Sox fans treat the Cubs. Probably why I didn’t hate the Cardinals as much as some here. I used most of my hate for the Sox.
  6. Pitching match ups set up poorly for the Cubs, but I guess I do understand Boyd for game 1. Means he can go game 4 on normal rest. Boyd is very good at Wrigley. So maybe if the Cubs can win a game or, better yet, 2 before then they would have Boyd going at home. Peralta is very good, but Cubs do ok against him. Not many hits, but they do take walks and drive his pitch count up. Going to be a tough series, but they can do it.
  7. Don’t like the idea of Boyd on short rest., at all. Especially so because he hasn’t been good against the Brewers.. IMO a bad decision.
  8. In the one occasion where an umpire threw a guy out, I agree he overreacted. But be careful the snowflake term. I have found that the people who love to throw that word around talking about a certain group of people tend to me people who are the first to get offended by someone acting not exactly like they think they should act or not speaking how they think they should speak. In the case of an umpire I do understand why they would have a problem with a player doing that, this year. It is showing them up. Problem is the one time a guy got tossed for it, I do agree the umpire overreacted. But no more than the umpire that threw Nico out for telling him he was having a bad day. I wouldn’t call either situation the umpire being a snowflake. I would just say he overreacted.
  9. So if Sutcliffe was gassed in the 6th inning of game 5, what do you think he would have done had he pitched game 4, on less rest? This conversation started because you said you never understood why the Cubs started Sanderson in game 4. So if not him, and if Sutcliffe couldn’t even go 6 on normal rest, who should have started? Honestly, kind of silly to even be talking about something that happened 41 years ago.
  10. Trout started game 2. I think you are thinking of Sutcliffe. Again, had Sanderson pitched well and the Cubs won no one would have questioned the move. Sutcliffe on 3 days rest or Sanderson rested were the options. We don’t know if Sutcliffe would have done any better.
  11. I actually forgot about him when discussing what this team has overcome. All things considered they had a great season. No Steele or Assad for most of the year. Shota and Jamo missing starts, Amaya out most of the year. Tucker missed 30+games and now Horton. And they still won 92 games and a playoff series. Great season.
  12. I get playing Shaw for his defense and hoping he can add something with the bat. Castro isn’t exactly an offensive force anyway. However, I think there is some exaggeration in your comment that no one could have made that play at 3rd. It was only close because Shaw bobbled the ball or hesitated a brief moment. I think Castro makes that play. Again, I do agree Shaw is a better glove and CC will lean defense. So Shaw might be the guy. But I don’t think that play in the 9th was anything special. It was made close because he misplayed it a little.
  13. Agreed. If Mo was going to even be considered to catch it would have been against SD. Not happening against the Brewers. Besides, Kelly is playing well anyway.
  14. Not sure if Castro’s glove at 3rd. But if he is decent I could see him in for Shaw at least one game. And if he hits, maybe another. Shaw has looked overmatched. That said, Cubs lean to defense when deciding who plays. So not sure they go with Castro. Honestly I was a little surprised Ballesteros didn’t pinch hit for Shaw in the 7th yesterday. Man in second and 2 outs. I thought that was the time for Mo. But CC chose to stay with Shaw. Had to be because he wanted his glove the last 2 innings.
  15. I think it will be Alcantara left off the next roster.
  16. I agree Assad will be added. I would be shocked if it was Horton instead. I think best case scenerio for him is he is in the rotation for thr NLCS.
  17. Yep. He got rid of the 3rd best prospect in all of baseball for Miller. And they are out of the playoffs. And might have to cut payroll. Would have been nice having a top prospect to build your team again. Peller and the Padres organization were getting praise for getting Miller yesterday and I was going to point out this very scenerio could change the perception of that deal. If in 3 years that prospect is a star while the Padres are struggling, Peller will be criticized for that deal. In one day that trade went from Peller really had urgency to win so Miller is worth whatever the cost to damn they traded for Miller and still lost. And now they lost a top prospect to build aeound. Maybe they gave away too much🤷
  18. He was lucky to get to that one. No chance that would have been an error. Just getting a glove on it was a tough play.
  19. Except neither play would have been an error. He made great plays to get to the balls he got to.
  20. I think they go Assad or Rea for game 1. Boyd game 2, Shota game 3, Tailon game 4 and back to Boyd game 5. Peralta is good, but he will probably only pitch 5 or 6 innings.
  21. I seriously doubt Boyd pitching on 3 days rest. Honestly, there is no reason for it either. If Boyd pitches game 2 he can come back for game 5, if need be. Go with Assad on a short start. Maybe 3 innings. Follow with Rea and/or Soroka and get through 6.
  22. I agree with all of this. Maybe people will stop ragging on Swanson. He is worth his contract and been a very solid player. They won this series because of him. I think Caesar asked what positive thing does anyone remember about Swanson. Well this would be one.
  23. I was all in every game. It is the modern day playoffs. Have to be excited about that. Lots of pacing and muttering under my breath. This wins means the season was a good one. Sure, I think they can win another one. But I am not going to let that expectation temper my excitement of winning the WC round.
  24. Yes, he could only replace an injured player. And that injured player couldn’t play in the next series. I doubt Horton comes back at all. But even if he did, I think the Cubs have to win this series without him.
  25. We were remodeling our home during that time. I had one 9x9 office with a couch and a tv in the room. It was the only room not under construction. It didn’t have a clock. But, yes, I didn’t get much sleep that year. I now live in Arizona, so games end early. Love live sports on Pacific time.
