    Yes, urban legend. Cubs were not robbed of home field in that series. As for other statements about other games, I can’t speak to that. They never happened so no one really knows what would have happened. I highly doubt they would have been played in St,L, however.

    I think game 3 or game 1 of the NLDS will be Taillon. He has pitched well lately and I think Rea is a better option coming out of the pen that Taillon. If the Cubs get to the second round due to off days they can actually get away with 3 starters in that series.

    Except at that time the rule was home field alternated between the East and West. That year whoever won the West had home field. The Cubs were never going to have home field in the playoffs that year, no matter their record.

    I will agree to Hoyer (following Rickett’s payroll guidelines) is cheap when it comes to pitchers. But he is not awful. Imanaga, Rea, & Boyd have all out pitched their contracts. Tailon has been a decent MOR starter for his MOR contract. And if you want to add pen arms to this, guys like Theilbar, Pomeranz and Keller have all been great signings. I think he is very good at finding pitching with a limited budget.

    Basically what I said and thought. Assad for 40-50 pitches and then let Wicks finish. Guess they thought different. I can’t see Assad on the WC roster.

    So with Assad throwing over 70 pitches does that mean he doesn’t make the wild card series roster? He won’t be available on Tuesday and probably Wednesday. If he isn’t on the roster I don’t see how they have 13 pitchers Nit even sure about 12, without him.

    They cater to east and west coast markets. Boston/Yankees usually gets a better time, as does any Dodgers game.

    Apparently the Cubs agree. But seriously how many pitchers do you have over him on the cubs staff? How many pitchers do you think they will carry? And can you name that many without naming Assad?

    Love Mo behind the plate. Surprised to not see Alcantara. Figured Castro would play, but thought he would play for either Nico or Dansby. Guess with guys going good he doesn’t want to sit them. 🤷

    If needed. But that is also close to a Steele return too. So if they have Boyd, Horton, Tailon, a FA pitcher and Shoto and Steele returning, Wiggins might not come up. To me, the longer they can hold him off, the better the major league team is probably doing. I don’t think the Cubs plan for Horton was coming up when he did and pitching as much as he did. That was out of necessity. If all pitchers stay relatively healthy or at least not multiple guys out at the same time, Wiggins might made a debut in relief.

    I would guess maybe 3 innings from Assad. Then go to Wicks. I expect Assad to be ready for a multi inning role, if needed in the playoffs. So don’t expect more than 40-50 pitches.

    I agree with this. I think Wicks will follow Assad today. I don’t expect any of their multi inning relievers to pitch multiple innings today.

    It could be as simple as if the wind is blowing in they go with Shoto in game 2. If it is blowing out they go Rea. Personally, I think it will be Shoto. But they will have guys ready. So, who are the pitchers in this series? Boyd, Shoto, Tailon, Rea, Soroka, Civeli, Assad, Palencia, Pomeranz, Thielbar, Kittredge, Keller. That is 12. Am I missing anyone? Rogers? Wicks?

    Oh, I know. I wasnt suggesting your comment suggested it was going to be easy. Just a general statement. Winning in the playoffs is hard. And good fortune plays a part in it.

    100% in agreement. Cubs definitely have a solid chance in this one. Might add that the Padres are not too good against left handed pitching either. They traded for a bat who hits lefties well, but he is injured. Playoffs are pretty close to a flip of the coin anyway, but for this series I would say the Cubs have an ever so slight advantage.

    Guess we will see. The good thing is, if the Cubs can take care of their own business they will only have to play either the Phillies or Dodgers but not both of them to get to the WS. Also, good to have to face one of those teams after they fought it out against each other. Cubs are definitely not a favorite in these playoffs. But that is fine. Anything can happen. Favorites do not win all the time.

    I know you know I am not. 😅 I just wasn’t someone who hated the Cardinals. No more than any other team, anyway. I know they had some code and had “the Cardinal way” and always talked about how great their fans were. But I didn’t hate them. After this series I do.

    The last few days the cardinals have shown me what a low class organization they are. Between hitting PCA on the knee after he homered and now walking Busch for no reason, while the manager was smirking, I have no respect for them.

    I am going to stick to the thought of 12 pitchers. Just rd 1. We shall see how it ends up.

    Do you think they will carry 13 pitchers? I don’t. I think 12 would be the most. So that leaves 5 spots. Back up catcher, Turner, Castro are 3 for sure. Then you have Ballesteros, Hamilton and Santana. Pick 2. I think he is one in the event the Cubs pinch hit Turner for Busch early in a game and then want to go back to a better defender and/or PH for Turner later in that game. But, who knows?🤷 To me it comes down to Santana or Hamilton. Mo has to be in the bench.

    This is why I think he will be in the roster. One extra bat in that round.

    And, at least for the WC round, I think he will be rostered.
