    Nah...there are like 3 pages of discussion about this in one of the deadline threads. I don't agree with punting on a chance to make the playoffs. At some point this team needs to look like a serious baseball franchise, especially if they are actually going to try to sway Ohtani this offseason. While I get that some people want to maximize every asset in likely non-WS winning seasons, I believe that sometimes it's okay to risk a player leaving for nothing. Teams do it all the time. This is a situation where its ok to let it ride and see if this team can make a run

    So their 19th and 29th best prospects and an established ML player that was worth ~3 wins last year but has been pretty terrible this year.

    FWIW the Cubs did release a lineup for tonight and Stroman is on it as the starting pitcher.

    No, why would we? We're basing our opinions on what we know now which is that the team is 3.5 games out of a playoff spot, has played over .500 baseball every month except May and has a top 5 RD in baseball. Is it very possible they fall flat over the next 2 weeks and fall out of the race? Sure it's a risk.

    So Andrew Abbott has made 10 ML starts. 7 of them he's allowed 0 or 1 ER (and at least 6 IP in all except 1), 2 he's allowed 2-3 ER and 1 he got lit up (4.1 IP, 6 ER) Yikes, tough road tonight

    It's funny because I've seen as many of these types of trades this year between teams still in the hunt as I've seen pure selling types of trades.

    The return would include players who help fill holes this year and have more control beyond this year. You are right you can't trade your ace and have people believe you are trying to win this year, but that's the justification I think they would use.

    My uneducated guess is that they are not planning on promoting him to Chicago this year. He'll need a 40 man spot and if the Cubs are in the race, they can't afford to have him working out any kinks here. Feels more to me like setting up a battle for a roster spot in Spring Training and then sending him down to "work on things" before bringing him up at some point if he continues playing well.

    Yeah I'm kind of interested in whether Stroman makes this start or is bumped for "an extra days rest". Starting and pitching a full 6-7 innings the day before the trade deadline slightly lowers his value IMO. If he starts and goes 100 pitches then I feel a bit better about him being on the roster next week.

    I'm pretty sure if they move anyone of consequence it wouldn't be for a rental. Maybe I'm wrong but just doesnt seem like something Jed would do He knows the Cubs are possibly better than their record but clearly not a WS contender

    Good news: Secondary had a really good day today, especially the rookies in camp. Bad news: Well....you can guess None of this means anything substantial at all but I'm happy to hear guys like Stevenson are showing up and looking good

    Good news: Brewers lost, Phillies lost, DBacks losing Bad news: Reds winning, Giants winning, Marlins won If all holds, I believe the Cubs will lose 1/2 game in both the division and WC (making them 3.5 back of WC and 4 back of division)

    I didn’t realize Kyle pitched 7. Seems pretty impressive (or lucky) to end up with a quality start as whenever I was watching the game he was giving up hard contact.

    Well good news is the Brewers are 1 out from losing. Can’t drop back to more than 4 GB with this likely loss if the Braves finish it out. marlins also losing and Phillies tied late. If they both lost and the Diamondbacks lose they won’t lose any ground in WC either
