Funny thing is the Cardinals only put 2 lefties in the lineup, albeit 2 in the first 3 hitters. But it didn’t really do much. Would have rather Smyly started and gone 2 times through the order and then Wesneski piggybacking him. If you do it that way you can use Wesneski for as long as you need him for. -
Stupid GIDPs
-
Lars Nootbar loves this Cubs opener crap. Homered to lead off the game against both openers (Fulmer and Wes), and then greeted Smyly with a double when he entered last game and another HR tonight
-
What a stupid horsefeathers decision
-
Dammit I thought Mancini had that one. I usually have a pretty good feel for HR balls off the bat on TV unless it’s dead center and I was pretty sure it was gone

Bahahahahahahahaha

Apparently Chip Caray went on the Score a few minutes ago to double down on his rant last night about unwritten rules and all that horsefeathers. What a horsefeathers tool.

Sure..they are close enough to the playoffs now that it seems stupid to trade Bellinger, especially with the QO available for him as a fallback. Stroman is a little trickier but if he's genuine about wanting to stay with the Cubs they'll have all the opportunity in the world to resign him if they want to. Other than those 2 any sell pieces were going to be minor deals anyways. They don't need to go crazy and make bold buy moves, but 1-2 smaller moves for a reliever and a corner IF would go a long way to helping the team continue the push without having to hurt the future of the team all that much.

The Cubs pythag record is 57-45 lol

Remember the poll was for when the Cubs went over .500 again. Still one more hill to climb!
-
We did it! .500!

I’d love to keep the moral high ground here, but I can’t help but wonder what the fallout would be if Rucker put one behind a Cardinal batter right now.

I always thought GWR had a semblance of rationality compared to the larger Cardinals fan base, but nope they reacted to the Happ thing just like everyone else https://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68349&start=10

Just realized none of the other division or WC contenders play tonight so free 0.5 game for the Cubs in both races with a win. 4 GB WC and 5.5 GB division if we finish this off.

The pride of Fremd High School!

It’s Jed I’m worried about edit: whoops responding to someone from 2 weeks ago

Steele looks gassed out there

Cubs have now scored 5+ runs in 16 of their last 21 games

Early multi run 1st inning lead against the Cardinals with a chance to get to .500. Let’s end it different this time
-
Damn short wall cost a run
-
Yep Happ was trying to purposely injure his teammate from the previous 6 seasons on…his backswing? Lmao
-
He heard you and decided to shut you up by homering in the 2nd inning of game 2. Edit: Oh horsefeathers Derwood you really pissed him off. Just hit a second HR

Our new ownership is not a fan of megathreads. In the past pretty much all of our discussions were megathreads. It takes some getting used to but its fine. Brock thinks it will elicit more conversation and activity if we make separate threads for things. With regards to selling, it seems like Jed is looking for a reason not to sell. The only way I'd be ok with selling is if there were some elite prospects being offered...it sounds stupid to say this but more 40-45 FV prospects isn't a big needle mover for me and eventually there will be a 40 man reckoning. At some point we'll need to consolidate some of that depth.

Buy or sell, where do you land? Let's talk hot stove.

I was going to say thats really strange to only play a division opponent once on the road even with the new schedule format but forgot that the Cardinals sacrificed one of their home series for the London trip. I'll take it!
