  1. Do the Marlins have like 8 lefty relievers in their pen?
  2. Feel like Seiya should move down in the order until he’s hitting better. He’s a rally killer right now
  3. Are there any teams that aren't wildly streaky and what attributes does that team have to prevent such peaks and valleys? If they consistently hit like the 7th best team with RISP they'd be fine.
  4. I see what you are saying but 30 games is still just a small slice of the season. Last year on May 7th the Phillies were 11-15, the Braves were 13-16, the Angels were 18-11, the Mariners were 12-16 and the Rockies were 16-11. I don't consider the Phillies a bad team because they are 15-18 despite not having Harper basically all year and Turner in a terrible slump. Of course you could definitely make an argument that last year's Phillies were a slightly above average team that snuck into the playoffs with a newly created playoff spot and got hot, so maybe their reality is that we shouldn't look at them as last year's runners up and instead a team that won 87 games and is struggling to start the next season.
  5. Ahh I guess its me then, since i turned it off and the Cubs scored.
  6. I haven't been sitting down to actually watch the Cubs lately but there have been about 7 times over the last week where I've checked the score and saw the Cubs had RISP and 0 outs. Excited, I'll throw the game on my phone to see what happens. Only 1 time have the Cubs actually scored a run. Just now when I saw 1st and 2nd and 0 outs, I just laughed and turned it on expecting the worst. Teams get in funks like this, but this is beyond awful, particularly with the gauntlet scheduling coming up. They're going to be in bad shape come mid-June if they don't start playing better and quickly.
  7. Strikeout, strikeout, lazy flyout. Nice one Cobs
  8. 1st and 2nd, 0 outs. How do they ruin this opportunity?
  9. One of these days Mervis is going to be able to face a normal right handed pitcher right?
  10. Bellinger strikes out looking on a pitch in the middle of the strike zone. This team really turns into a completely different offense when runners are in scoring position.
  11. Seiya struck out on a ball in the dirt twice in the same AB with a runner on 3rd. That’s hard to do.
  12. Last year I assumed they were phasing him out but then they signed him to an extension so clearly they want him there. Probably is a part timer I guess
  13. 36 pitches in the 1st is going to change the equation for Smyly today unless he can counter with a few quick innings
  14. 👀 Probably nothing but the Cubs have gone out of their way to ignore Sammy unless directly asked about him, so interesting to see
  15. B tier prospect with an A tier ceiling I think. A guy with a solid BB/K rate and good power can be a stud if it translates to the majors. What are his major areas of concern? I know Keith Law commented on his mediocre bat speed and spin recognition, but I have no idea if those are valid concerns.
  16. One day its going to be possible to build a team that doesnt all get hot and slump at the same time...I hope
  17. Starter came in with a 4.67 ERA for the season, mowing down the Cubs other than the 1st inning.
  18. This means nothing at all but I find it funny that Mervis is from Potomac, MD and was drafted by the Nationals before he committed to Duke, but the Cubs waited until after the series in Washington to call him up. Maybe playing in front of his hometown may have been more pressure for him than debuting at Wrigley.
  19. Ross basically said that he knows Morel has been possibly the best hitter in AAA this year but there's not a spot on the roster for him right now. The 3 most common DH's for the Cubs this year have been Hosmer, Rios and Torrens so yeah I'm pretty sure even with Mervis pushing Mancini to DH, they can find semi-regular ABs for him. It's not like he hasn't proven it on the MLB level yet either. He had a .742 OPS and 1.6 fWAR last year. Not saying those are amazing numbers but its not like he's the position player version of Caleb Kilian out there.
  20. I'm excited about this but tempered until we figure out what role he is going to have. Is he coming to start? Is he going to be the short end of a 3-headed 1B monster? So far we've seen Velazquez play once every 3-4 games despite hitting well when he's played, and Rios has 20 total ABs and we're about 6 weeks into the season. If Hosmer isn't being DFA'd as part of this move, I can totally see Mervis falling into the same situation, at least early on. That said, its clearly not a temporary call up as he's being added to the 40 man in order to come up. He will get opportunities to play and presumably he's up for good unless he just doesn't play well.
  21. Nope looks like 75-78 wins was right
