  1. I thought the same thing, and it had me pretty scared.
  2. Sure it's easy to make a simple statement like that, but it's likely not just the lineup issue that people were unhappy with. As far as "chemistry" in the sense of players playing well together then I'd have to say that doesn't matter very much in baseball. But as far as players' moods, I think it can be extremely important. No matter what sport it is, individual or team, your mindset DOES affect your performance. I know that for me personally, when I start getting frustrated with myself or my team, I am much more likely to strike out or shoot an airball or whatever it is. Then the problem just snowballs.
  3. I agree that poor team performance is often times the cause of low team morale, but that low team morale does then make the problem worse. It's like what came first, the chicken or the egg? :D I'm aware that Soriano is from Mexico, so I did take that into account. My point about him was that he was openly admitting that he tries harder when he is happy with his manager and maybe suggesting that he slacks off when he is displeased with his manager. Not to make a big deal of it or anything.
  4. Wow, what a team player. For the record, team chemistry does exist in baseball. Is it exaggerated? Absolutely. But players do perform better when they are happy. When people are depressed and frustrated it tends to affect their play on the field. I don't see how anyone can really argue that.
  5. All we need now is Juan Pierre and Corey Patterson.
  6. Because he's going to end up starting in center field for the Cardinals, making the all-star team, and winning another gold glove.
  7. I like this deal. I wasn't too high on anybody that we gave away so I think it's a hard deal to hate. I think we're gonna see the Cubs surprise a lot of people this year. They may not be great, but they have enough talent on the roster to contend for the playoffs IF they can get decent years out of a few key people, especially on the offensive end. We have depth in the bullpen for the first time in quite awhile. The Cubs suddenly look like a fairly well-rounded team, IMHO.
  8. Sounds like Hendry is planning to sign Cliff Lee and then immediately trade him for prospects.
  9. Not just someone... US. Sounds like a solid platoon.
  10. Health? Yeah, Lou's health.
  11. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/09/16/carlos-zambrano-reiterates-plan-to-retire-after-current-deal-run/ I didn't see this anywhere else, sorry if I missed it. First saw it on ESPN a few minutes ago. Certainly very interesting. EDIT: I wasn't aware that he had talked about this before, so I guess it isn't THAT shocking. Especially since he'll prolly pull a Brett Farve and keep making comebacks for a decade.
  12. Hendry from the ESPN article: "It's unfortunate we got ourselves in the spot we're in now. The overall situation we're in makes us all somewhere between miserable and sad every day."
  13. Bob: "If you get a base hit with runners in scoring position, you might actually get to play for the Cubs." :D
  14. Is Fukudome's contract not up after this year? Maybe I'm wrong... but I thought he signed a three year deal. He signed a four year deal before the 2008 season. He's signed through 2011 and will make $13.5 million next year. Ouch. I dunno why I was thinking his deal was the same as Bradley's (30/3).
  15. Is Fukudome's contract not up after this year? Maybe I'm wrong... but I thought he signed a three year deal.
  16. On ESPN, Cruz is listed at 6'2" 145 lbs. I knew the guy was skinny, but DAMN. Of course this has essentially nothing to do with anything, it's just something I noticed while looking at his stats.
  17. I think I would have been less outraged if Lou had moved Z to second base.
  18. GEOVANY SOTO DOES NOT SUCK What is wrong with Lou? Seems like even last year, every time he started making some solid contact, he got benched. Soto is very above-average AT WORST for his position. This doghouse stuff is bull. We send Soriano out there HURT every day in 2009 despite him going 0-4 every day. But if Geo goes 1-6 in two games, he has no place on our roster.
  19. What's the thought process here? I mean... sure, Carlos' WHIP has been way too high, but since opening day, he hasn't been THAT awful. He hasn't been great, but not "bullpen demotion" bad. I realize that our bullpen is horrible and we have an urgent need for help in that area (which I've been saying since about... the end of the 2008 season) but I don't see how Zambrano should be moved to the pen. Honestly, he would probably make a decent setup man, but it's just such a waste. The guy hasn't had an ERA over 4 in his entire career... why give up after a few starts? It's so funny how everyone (including myself) was so worried about how we were going to put a decent rotation together, and now we just take our ace and stick him in the bullpen. Baseball must be so boring for fans of other teams.
  20. It's gonna be so funny if Silva pitches like a stud all season. Seriously, if a few guys randomly pull good years out of their asses, this could be a very good team.
  21. Just for the record, I was halfway joking about Soriano. It is much too early to jump to conclusions about him being done, but it's certainly not unrealistic. I will say that if he puts on an epic display of suck for the first month or two of the season, it makes no sense to keep sending him out there every day. Playing time should be based on production, not salary. I'd give Soriano some more time to turn things around, and if he doesn't, then we give Nady a shot and see what happens.
  22. Moving Fukudome and eating his salary would be completely and totally stupid. Is he a bit overpaid? Yes. But he doesn't suck that bad offensively, and he's a plus defender in right field. I'd keep him around at least until his contract is up. Out of our three starting outfielders, Fukudome is the least of my worries as far as offensive production. I'm more concerned about Soriano continuing to decline, and Byrd not being able to produce anything close to his Texas numbers.
  23. So how long until Nady becomes our starting left fielder and Soriano becomes a 100+ million dollar bench player?
  24. This. Honestly, I still think Samardzjia is gonna end up leaving baseball and pursuing a football career.
