  1. Watching that is really hard because at the time we had no idea what was about to happen.
  2. It's still blowing my mind that all these guys are actually in our big league lineup now. Remember when this was all a dream?
  3. The best part about Cubs baseball right now is that it's just going to keep getting better and better. It almost seems like common sense that the Cubs would play better in the second half, if for no other reason than experience.
  4. Whoa... the first couple times I saw this thread, I assumed it was the old one. I'm really rooting for Schwarber to get his [expletive] together behind the plate. I've always been a fan of catchers that can hit. Anytime you can squeeze an extra bat into the lineup, that's a good thing. Considering we already have the pitchers hitting in the NL, it would be nice to not have two automatic outs in the lineup. If he could just become an average catcher, that would be lovely.
  5. So after all of this, not a single person on this forum can tell me the ethnic background of Addison Russell? You guys are funny.
  6. It was my assumption that the front office doesn't necessarily think guys like Herrera, Szczur, etc. are BETTER than Alcantara. I figured they wanted to leave him down there for awhile to avoid stunting his development, until he's good enough to start or get used as a trade piece. I'm sure Kris Bryant could have hit better than anyone on our bench last year, but we weren't about to call him up to be a platoon guy or anything. (Sorry, extreme example, I know). Generally you want your prospects playing every day and getting lots of AB's (hence the Baez situation, also).
  7. I haven't heard much about him for awhile. I'm just wondering if we're still expecting anything from him. Is he going to replace Fowler?
  8. Has anyone considered that it might come down to a simple issue of rest? If it's close to a toss-up at the end of the year, they might just go with the fresher arm.
  9. Just when I thought I knew what race he was... this picture has me more confused than ever. Also... I just realized that DJ Lamahieu is an all-star. Holy crap.
  10. Uh, you kinda did that when you used it as an example in this thread so you call everyone pricks. What are you talking about?
  11. When you asked what nationality he was. His nationality is American. We have already established that I was curious about his genetic background, not his birthplace. Not sure why you are still pressing this issue. I am well aware that Russell is American and have been since last year.
  12. 1. I have 2. No I didn't 3. I'm not upset 4. I know what nationality means. Good post, though. I wasn't even aware that there was anything below the references section on Wikipedia. I never scroll down that far. Thank you for that. I learned something. And yeah, if you could pull up his family tree, that would be great. When did I ask where Addison Russell was born? I'm not angry at anyone. Yes, only one person specifically said, "who cares?" but there were a number of other posts that were less than constructive. If you see a thread or a post that you feel is stupid... why even waste your valuable smart people time replying? Just move on to the next thread and talk about crazy statistics or something. Also... why does everyone keep saying that I didn't use google before posting? That's a lie. I did not take offense to being corrected. I just find it ridiculous that people would make such a big deal out of using the word nationality vs ethnicity. It was like I said the n-word or something.
  13. na·tion·al·i·ty ˌnaSHəˈnalədē/ noun noun: nationality; plural noun: nationalities 1. the status of belonging to a particular nation. "they changed their nationality and became Lebanese" synonyms: citizenship "what is your nationality?" distinctive national or ethnic character. "the change of a name does not discard nationality" 2. an ethnic group forming a part of one or more political nations. "all the main nationalities of Ethiopia" synonyms: ethnic group, ethnic minority, tribe, clan, race, nation "all the main nationalities of Ethiopia" https://www.google.com/#q=nationality The way that it is written, it sounds as if "nationality" can be used synonymously in place of "ethnicity"
  14. Are you kidding me right now? Given the substance of this thread, you are really still going to nitpick over the fact that I accidentally used the word "nationality" instead of "ethnicity"? This is the type of [expletive] I'm talking about. Like I said in the thread, I did use google before posting. If you can show me someplace on the internet where it says what ethnicity he is, that would be great, because I still have not figured it out. So, to answer your question: Yes, I know google exists.
  15. This forum is full of a bunch of people who have their finger on the trigger ready to jump at the first chance to show you how smart they are. People here literally browse through the threads LOOKING for opportunities to throw zingers and assert their superior intelligence. The other day I made a thread asking one simple question: What race is Addison Russell? It was an honest question. I was curious. I meant no harm by it. I got absolutely bombarded with comments like, "WHY DOES IT MATTER?!?" as if I'm being some sort of ignorant racist for just ASKING about a person's ethnicity. There is a lot that I love about this forum, but the people can be a bit much at times. It's kind of like living in the suburbs. All your neighbors are going to be a bunch of stuck-up pricks.
  16. So... I'm a n00b and I don't know much about WAR. I would like someone to explain to me these two lines from Chris Coghlan: 2009 FLA 128 504 84 162 31 6 9 47 53 77 8 5 .321 .390 .460 .850 0.9 2010 FLA 91 358 60 96 20 3 5 28 33 84 10 3 .268 .335 .383 .718 1.0 Why is his WAR higher in his second year when his numbers were better all across the board in his first year? Is it because the replacement level was that much better in 2010?
  17. LF and CF are the only positions that we could possibly upgrade. Everywhere else, all we can do is wait for them to get better. I don't see them moving Fowler, and I'm not sure what kind of impact bat we could acquire to play left. Maybe we could stick Schwarber out there towards the end of the year, but besides that, I'm not sure there's much we can do about our offense.
  18. Because he's bad? That's true, but with a 3-0 count and 1st base open, I'd put him on and hope for a ground ball.
  19. Papelbon might be a luxury but luxuries are things that dynasty-level teams typically have.
  20. Filipino is what I would have guessed.
