  1. Really, guys? Is "nationality" the wrong word? What RACE is he?
  2. I can't find it anywhere online.
  3. Ah, cool. I should have googled before I made this thread. Oh well.
  4. Is Papelbon even a remote possibility? I don't think that having a dominant, proven closer is at all overrated. Especially in the postseason. Besides that brief stretch where Marmol was lights-out... I don't remember when the Cubs have had anybody of that calber.
  5. After what I just witnessed, I just feel bad for Edwin. I wouldn't even be able to boo the guy. That's how bad I feel.
  6. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/105807/report-cubs-interested-in-jon-niese I really hope this does not happen.
  7. This. I'm not too worried about Fowler, especially considering major league center fielders aren't exactly growing on trees. He has been very consistent throughout his career, and there's no reason to think that he won't rebound this year and finish with good numbers. The guy has a career .363 OBP for crying out loud. If we get the other 7 slots in our lineup dialed in, I'm totally fine with Fowler sticking around. If he's our worst hitter, I think that means we're a really good team.
  8. This could be worth looking into.
  9. Any team trading pitcher at the deadline will not be looking to acquire Coghlan or Montero. Not any pitchers that we would want.
  10. This forum is really trendy. At one point, Soler was the next Vlad Guerrero, and Baez was totally written off. Now people are starting to forget about Soler and jump back on the Baez bandwagon. To be clear, I was mostly joking about Denorfia being better than Soler, but saying Schwarber will be a better hitter is by no means forgetting about Soler. Yeah I wasn't directing anything at you, just poking fun at the nature of Cubs fans in general.

  12. You're right, but if I can count Schwarber as an outfielder, Soler might be the 4th best corner outfielder on the team. There's my hot take for the evening. Is it really okay to call Schwarber better than Soler at this point? I know Soler is off to a slow start, but I didn't know Schwarber had surpassed him.
  13. I was worried that I was too stoned to understand what was going on here. Glad it wasn't just me.
  14. Didn't they say a similar thing with Alcantara last year (that he was definitely just coming up to get a cup of coffee), but then he went on a tear and they decided to keep him up instead? Obviously a different situation with Schwarber trying to improve his catching, I know. very different situation, largely for the reason you stated. he has no position. Yeah this is likely gonna be the bottom line I think.
  15. What if he just absolutely rakes for the entire week? Do they still send him down, or let him ride it out?

  17. I never said it was distracting. I said I was in favor of it.
  18. I agree that the video boards have been pulled off quite nicely. Like I said, I am in favor of the renovations. BUT... Wrigley was the last place where you could go to see a game without all that stuff. No electronics. Just a bunch of guys with a bat and a ball. 40 thousand fans. And beer. In the middle of a neighborhood. I will really miss the old Wrigley.
  19. You know what... I was sitting at the game yesterday... and it started to sink in that I'm never going to be able to go to the old Wrigley again. I have generally been in favor of the renovations, and I think the new place is gonna look awesome when it's done. It's just sad that the old place is really gone.
  20. I think Russell is certainly a better shortstop than Castro, but he is also a better second baseman. I would rather have Russell playing out of position than Castro. I'm okay with leaving them where they are and waiting to see what becomes of Baez.
  21. Taj is signed for a couple more years at a reasonable salary, so I see no reason to trade him now. I don't think the return would be worth what he brings to our team. Noah, however, could potentially bring more in a trade than he is worth to us. He's been an all-star, defensive player of the year, etc. and is currently pretty much taking up space on the court.
  22. That's a good question.
  23. I am the biggest Thibs supporter around, but... It's time to make a change. Anyone who pays close attention to the Bulls should be able to tell that there is some sort of SERIOUS issue behind the scenes that we can't see. I think it is almost certainly a coaching issue. The way that we always get beat by the worst teams in the league is a joke. We only show up to play about 50% of the time. As others have said, there is NO EXCUSE for what happened in game 6. We just absolutely did not care about winning that game. If Derrick Rose wasn't hurt in some way in game 6, then I no longer believe that we can build around him. He had Dellavedova on him and the guy couldn't even TAKE a shot. It would be one thing if he had a bad shooting night, but Rose just decided to take the night off entirely. No shots, no drives, no free throws. He was already looking forward to enjoying his off-season.
  24. Here are the things that will happen this offseason: *Thibs is gone; possibly replaced by Alvin Gentry *Butler signed to max deal *Dunleavy walks away, and hopefully McDermott fills his roll nicely. *Hinrich will pick up his player option *We'll fill out the end of the bench with a couple cheap guys... not sure if Aaron Brooks will be one of them... I'm guessing someone might offer him a deal like what happened with DJ Augustin So, basically... we are going to have the same squad except with a different coach and a couple minor tweaks. I would say it MIGHT be possible that Noah gets traded at some point before his deal is up, but we'll see.
  25. Sosa isn't a sure thing? Steroids and corked bat aside, Sosa is the Mr. Cub of the modern era. He was my hero when I was a little kid. He is one of the four if anyone is.
