  1. I say we give Jim Edmonds a call and see what he's up to.
  2. he's only done it for 2 years. and the reason he's been moved twice is BECAUSE he's pitched lights out ball this seems like more of a risk management type move for the phils. they could have just extended lee and hoped he pitched like he has the last 2 seasons, but that would be pretty risky (at least for the money that he'll demand) considering his track record. i wouldn't want to give 15-20 million for a guy like that. halladay is a much safer play (not to mention he's a better pitcher. the phils will have halladay/hamels for the next 4 years. that's pretty beastly (despite hamels' 2009) Agreed.
  3. When I first heard this announced on tv... the first thing I thought was, "wait.... the Phillies just got ANOTHER ace?". Then they mentioned that Lee got traded in the process... so it wasn't quite as crazy. What I don't understand is why Lee can't find a good home. All the guy does is pitch lights-out ball.
  4. This sucks. Seriously, it does. Why can't Milton just get it together? This off-season would be so much easier if he could just learn to act right and not cause problems. I would also lean a little more towards keeping him if Cameron signs elsewhere. But... the thing that worries me is all of the comments from his teammates. It sounds like it's really not even possible, even if we sat the guy down and settled our differences.
  5. If Capps was willing to sign cheap just for the sake of playing for the Cubs, I'd take a chance. But, I wouldn't spend a large chunk of cash on him. In 2009 we assembled a HORRIBLE bullpen, though, and I'm afraid to see that happen again. You can never have too many good relievers.
  6. I would almost agree, except I think Kendall is slightly more valuable simply because he's a catcher.
  7. Yeah. Good point. Not really trouble, per se. I should have called it the First MLB Player to Do Something Stupid In The Offseason Award instead. I like how nobody is regarding Lincecum getting caught with an 8th and a pipe as getting in trouble, or doing something stupid. I agree and everything, especially since it was in Cali. Just thought I'd point that out. Huh? First, this happened before Lincecum got caught. Second, I can't remember which poster it was, but someone was quick to transfer the award to him. Oh [expletive]... oops. I didn't see this thread until yesterday and I didn't notice that it was posted over a month ago. My mistake.

  9. Wow... I would have given him that contract. Woulda been a nice addition to the Cubs as well...
  10. I was part of the minority that wasn't in a hurry to get rid of Fox... so I'm not too thrilled about that... but the fact that we got rid of Miles in the process makes everything okay. I'll sleep better knowing he's gone.
  11. Grabow may turn out to be the Aaron Miles of our pitching staff. A guy who makes an excessive amount of money for doing something that other players do for the league minimum. I'm just hoping he at least pitches decent so it isn't a total loss. But even then, Grabow's ceiling isn't worth 7.5 mil.
  12. What a great move. For once.
  13. I just noticed this comment. Please explain to me how they make money imprisoning people. Do you know how much it costs to keep a person in jail? What they make money off of is fines and probation fees... not locking people up... that's where they lose money.
  14. Far from it
  15. First of all... I don't mean it makes you feel "normal" the way you think I mean it. Obviously it doesn't make you sober. One does not become "immune" to the negative effects of pot... just immune to the impairment of pot. People can't even tell when you're stoned and when you're not because you just act like a normal person. I should probably mention that I'm a medical user and that I'm unable to function or be productive without it... escapism has nothing to do with it. If you wanna call it "sad" that I'm baked all the time... that's up to you. However, if you knew me I think you would probably change your mind. Everyone has their own opinion on the subject and there is no right answer. It's just an opinion.
  16. BS. Driving stoned is no better than driving drunk. Unless you're talking about being slightly stoned, which is just as slippery a slope as saying it's okay to drive buzzed. People rationalize this crap to no end, but if you're faculties are impaired at all, you really have no business being behind the wheel. And yes, I've smoked enough pot in my day to know precisely what I am talking about. Pot has a marked affect on your awareness/reaction time. Having said that, I'm all for legalizing it. Too much time and money is wasted trying to stop people from doing something that is really no worse than drinking, and too many jail cells are taken up that should have real criminals in them. Quite frankly, I'm surprised they don't legalize it and tax it. I guess it's the stigma that is the problem. That and the fact that if it were legal, the cops couldn't seize it and smoke it themselves. God knows a couple of the cops in my hometown got high smoking my weed a few times. :-)) If you smoke enough pot... it doesn't even impair you... it just makes you feel normal. And comparing alcohol to weed is like apples and oranges man... they aren't even close to the same thing. Alcohol is the most dangerous and destructive drug in the world and weed isn't even a drug. And yes, I have a Budweiser sitting next to me as I type this. With that said... I don't wanna start a huge debate in this thread. Seems to happen very easily with any discussion about weed or alcohol.
  17. x2 Besides, nobody should care about Lincecum smoking pot because it's obviously not affecting his performance. And to those asking about a potential DUI... 1. It's very unlikely that he was smoking a bowl while driving 74 mph on the interstate considering smoking a pipe requires two hands. It's possible but a little bit tricky. The officer probably just smelled the bag of weed and pipe since it was sitting right there in his center console. 2. There's nothing wrong with driving stoned unless you're a lightweight that never smokes.
  18. :rotfl: The dude has no arm and is no longer got anything other than average speed. He's essentially a Jim Edmonds without the quick reads and strong arm. In other words he is not a good CF. I think he's still serviceable in center. Maybe not great, but he's passable. And like I said... we play in a ballpark that doesn't have much square footage in center.
  19. I'd say it depends on the cost. I wouldn't mind having Damon in center for cheap... but I wouldn't give him a crazy contract or anything. And yes, considering we play at Wrigley, I'm sure he can play center effectively. I think my little sister could cover center at Wrigley.
  20. Does McGwire really know that much about hitting? I mean, really?
  21. I would love for the Cubs to keep Bradley... but at this point I just don't know if it's possible. It seems like he has burned all his bridges with his teammates and the fans... and it seems like he doesn't wanna be here. Actually, it really seems like he was trying as hard as he could to get traded. So maybe keeping him isn't an option.
  22. I bet you also wanted to see the Lakers/Celtics matchup, too. At this point, I much rather see Angels .v. Dodgers/Phillies over anything that includes the Yankees. Woulda rather seen a Bulls-Lakers matchup... but yeah. I really just don't like the Phillies because I'm sort of a second-hand Mets fan. And I wouldn't mind seeing Victorino get another beer thrown at him during this series.
