  1. Yeah... that would be alot of runs. Even with how crappy our rotation looks.
  2. +1 +2 I hope he tears it up and everyone else on the Brewers fails miserably.
  3. Oh God. I would love to see Hill resurrect his career but... not like this.
  4. I always liked Stairs. I feel really bad for him, because it seems like every time in his career he was putting up good numbers as a full-time player, he got traded to a contender to assume a bench role.
  5. Nady is a pretty damn good 4th outfielder. If I were Marlon Byrd, I'd feel a bit of pressure. If he doesn't perform and Nady is putting up numbers... I wouldn't be surprised to see Fukudome moved back to center and Nady manning right.
  6. He was a serviceable 4th outfielder basically every year from 2002 until the present. Out of those years, I'd say he was serviceable as a starter in 02, 04, 05, 06 and 07. Keep in mind I am not saying "good", but rather "serviceable". Except for 06, when he was obviously pretty [expletive] good.
  7. I would've prolly taken GMJ for 1 mil per year. I dunno why, but I always kinda liked him despite all the sucking. Maybe just cuz he's the son of the real Gary Matthews. But I do recall several circus catches he made when he was with the Cubs... and that one incident involving a squirrel in center field. So... he's at least entertaining to watch. But actually... aside from his one good year... he did have numerous other years where he was "serviceable" offensively. I would say he's not horrible as a 4th outfielder.
  8. I just hope Soriano never hits first in our lineup again, no matter how many homers he hits. And I am confident Soto will rebound... so I would not hit him 8th. Assuming Soto doesn't suck anymore... this would be my lineup: 1. Fukudome 2. Theriot 3. Lee 4. Ramirez 5. Soto/Soriano 6. Soto/Soriano 7. Byrd 8. Fontenot/Baker I would flip-flop Soto and Soriano depending on how well they do.
  9. My dad is a Mets fan and he told me today that the Mets "lost out" on Pineiro. I told him at 8 million per year... they didn't miss out on anything except a big disappointment.
  10. If we spend a bunch of money on a 4th outfielder, and leave ourselves with a massive hole in our starting rotation... Oh God... I don't even wanna think about it.
  11. Rich Hill does seem like the type of guy who would sign with a mystery team. Actually... if he was willing to sign CHEAP (like for the minimum or close to it) I'd be willing to stick him at AAA and see what happens.
  12. Is that 10-12 over 2 years, or per year? I wouldn't give him that much per year... honestly I would have rather given it to Harden if that's the price. If we can get him to sign an incentive-heavy deal... I'm very down.
  13. That's a damn good deal. Texas is having quite an offseason.
  14. What we need is another starter, first and foremost. A reliever or a second baseman would be nice, but those weaknesses are nothing compared to the gaping hole in our starting rotation. ESPECIALLY if Randy Wells isn't able to repeat his 2009 season.
  15. Man do we need another starter...
  16. Why would he do better as a Pirate minor leaguer than a different team's minor leaguer? The competition is the same. I meant that he would look better comparatively speaking. Jesus guys, I was just trying to make fun of the Pirates.
  17. I think people should put more stock into the importance of having veteran relievers. You'll notice that most of the really good teams in the league have a bullpen composed of stud veteran relievers. Not talented minor leaguers.
  18. Seems like everyone has jumped off the Soto bandwagon and forgotten about him. Soto is not going to be a #8 hitter for the rest of his career. I think he'll build on his 2008 season and put up some good numbers this year.
  19. "Fit in" does not necessarily mean "equal". I mean that he will most likely do well as a Pirate minor leaguer... so it will be a good place for him.
  20. Elaborate, please. Because he's essentially a AAA-level pitcher. Considering the Pirates are a AAA team, he should become a standout among their minor league squad. Then again... they'll probably end up calling him up and making him their closer.
  21. I am SO GLAD that I won't be seeing any more of that guy. Possibly my all-time least favorite pitcher. However... it's a good move for the Pirates because... they're the Pirates. He'll fit right in with their minor league system.
  22. Any lineup that starts with Soriano is not a good lineup.
  23. Too bad we didn't just trade Gregg for Capps. Like, a long time ago. Then again, during the season, the Pirates probably didn't plan on letting Capps go for nothing.
  24. If those factors are hurting his value, awesome. That means we should be able to sign him cheap.
  25. What's wrong with Ryan Theriot? I don't see why people here don't like him. He hits for average and gets on base, and has decent speed, and he's affordable. Not to mention, he plays a generally light-hitting position... so I'd have to say he's above average offensively. I realize he isn't great on defense, and he has no arm, but I still don't feel like he's a weakness. He's a decent top of the order guy. I would focus on upgrading elsewhere and consider Ryan Theriot to be "acceptable" at shortstop.
