  1. oh the hilarity of one Dusty Baker. Keep 'em coming, Dusty.
  2. Why do a thread like this? Cause if Bradley is hitting like last yr (or even his career norms) people would say it was a shrewd signing by Hendry (and I do believe Bradley will end up with good numbers by the end of the yr). With him and the Cubs basically hit and miss offensively, of course people are going to rip Bradley and Hendry. To be honest, I have more problems with Soto and Fontenot struggling to this point because they don't have a major league performance track to fall back on. This thread is useless. For that matter any hindsight thread.
  3. This is way people need to stop using the "win/loss" as a stat to evaluate a player's ability. Too many uncontrollable variables happen. The bottom line is that while in Denver when the Broncos' "D" played halfway leage average, Cutler was easily one of the game's best QB's without question. It was those games in which that same D played crappy that Cutler had to go outside of his game to keep his team in the game. If the Bears "D" is even half as good as the D that took the Bears to the Super Bowl a couple of yrs back, and the Bears are battling the Eagles as the best team in the NFC.
  4. I'll believe Z, when Brett Favre "official" retires from the NFL without an itch to come back.
  5. I doubt Plax will face jail time. I think it's more likely he'll plead out and get probation (he did have a unlicenced gun, but he only hurt himself). The biggest obstacle will be from Roger Goodell and a potential suspension.
  6. Makes you feel old, doesn't it. :old_givebeer:
  7. I think this is a case of "a bird in a hand, is worth two in a bush" situation. You could have Plax this yr, or take a gamble and have a new CBA reach and Marshall becomes an UFA next season. But if no CBA is reach then Marshall is a RFA and the chances of the Bears getting him would be slim. As for Braylan and Boldin, I have a feeling both will remain with their clubs until the reach FA.
  8. No way dude, Lou would have asked Adam to lay down the bunt.
  9. I agree. Low-ceiling, but at that draft spot, you'd know you're getting someone who'll come in and do what you know he can do. There's no mystery with TH. He'll be a serviceable bench player/energy guy. Isn't Hansborough just sort of a white Joakim Noah though? nbadraft.net compares TH to a combo of Madsen/Najera. draftexpress.net has best case Luis Scola: worst case: Felipe Reyes ( Maybe on the comp of TH to Noah.
  10. Does this mean Jordan Schafer is sent back to AAA? Heckuva move for the Braves, and it eliminates another Cub-killer from the NL Central.
  11. I say yes. He wants to be the biggest superstar on the planet. Just imagine what it could do for his legacy if he was able to turn around that decrepit franchise. Its all about ego. I say no. Lebron is good, really good, but not good enough to elevate the piece of crap knowns as the Knicks. If LBJ went to NY he would be further away from a championship then he is with Cleveland. I know the Knicks fans are praying they can get LBJ, but I just don't see NY being a viable option for James.
  12. I went to sleep after the 2nd inning of last night's game knowing the Cubs were up 2-0. When I woke up about 3 this morning and found it the result of the game, you could colour me unsurprised.
  13. Contract length and total value wise, perhaps. But I have to agree with the nominations of Todd "Flipping the Bird" Hundley and Mel Rojas are worse free agent signing. I would also nominate the group signing of Randy Myers, Jose Bautista, Dan Plesac, and Candy Maldonado for the money saved by not re-signing Maddux. None of those players stayed in Chicago for more then 3 yrs, and only Myers was remotely productive during their stay with the Cubs.
  14. or Trent Dilfer. ESPN is still spewing the hatred of the Jay Cutler deal on NFL live today. Dilfer says that Cutler is in for a "rude awakening" in Chicago knowing he won't have Schleffer, Marshall, or Royal to throw the ball too.
  15. The "Big Cat Weekend" was about as embarrassing as a recruiting tool as the Tiger Prowl Limo. Anybody who considers the "Big Cat Weekend" a success has very low standards, IMO.
  16. I do think this is a good move for 2009, but ultimately I rather the Cubs keep Marshall in the rotation. The only problem I had with the whole situation is that not only is he being bumped for a rookie (albeit a rookie who is throwing decently) but he was told he was moving to the pen on the same day he was scheduled top pitch. No wonder Marshalll threw up a goose egg against the Dodgers.
  17. Who? Wouldn't have mattered. This team wasn't a two seed anyways, just got generously seeded due to our Big 12 tourney run. Mizzou baseball always goes out quietly and this year is no different. You might disagree with me, but IMO we should be looking for a new head coach. You can have Jim Wells.....
  18. http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2009/05/bears_agree_to_terms_with_pisa.html Good move. Is Hillenmeyer gone or second string now? How good is this pickup? This is a really good pickup for the Bears. Now obviously he want get the same numbers in Chicago as he did in St. Louis but he is a much better LB then Hunter. And yes, IMO this all but assures that Hunter will be released. The Bears pride themselves in getting players who are versatile. Guys like Roach, Freeman, and LaRouque will and should contribute on special teams which Hunter has show he couldn't or wouldn't do. So yes, it is both a good move, and Hunter is imo will be released.
  19. http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2009/05/bears_agree_to_terms_with_pisa.html Good move.
  20. Now that the Hawks are out of it :( , I prolly won't watch a minute of the Stanley. I'm don't need to see Crosby play (plus I am more of an AO fan then Crosby), and I will never watch the Red Wings play unless their playing the Hawks or perhaps the Capitals. Other then that, my hockey viewing is done till NHL draft/next season.
  21. I know it end 4-1, but the Hawks showed the can and will continue to be able to skate with the Wings.
  22. What about Florida's Class of 2004 as one of the great recruiting classes ever? Corey Brewer, Joaqim Noah, Al Hortford, Taurean Green were part of that class, not to mention a few NFL draft pick Cornelius Ingram was part of that basketball class. All that class did was send all five of those players to either the NBA or the NFL. Not to mention all but Ingram help contribute to Florida's back to back championships.
