  1. You guys are so frakkin hilarious. Most of those wins being vacated are from Mike Shula era. And yes Alabama does plan to appeal that decision. NZAA is not a friend of Alabama's to say the least. It let USC allows players to live in condos on Pac Ocean that is beyond their player's family means and yet it comes down on a minor textbook incident. The NZAA can got fack themselves. Ever since the NZAA broke their OWN God Dang rules during the Albert Means scandal, they seem determine to kill the Crimson Tide football. Going back to the textbooks scandal, CNS found out about the scam that his players were running and he immediately suspended those players for four games with the approval of the NZAA. After the four games were up the NZAA reinstaed the players with the understand no further punishment was going to happen. Yeah FRAKKING right. When Alabama wins the damn national title we are going to shove up the NZAA arse and smile. Trust me, Alabama is NZAA's favorite punching bag when it comes to dealing out punishment. Take it for what it is worth, but most Crimson Tide fans are upset at the double God Dang standards the NZAA has. Be the poster boy of what they want college football to be and you can get away with murder, but be against the NZAA and they come down on you like an iron fisted dictator. And this is all I will say on this. And yes, last I heard Alabama plans to appeal this decision.
  2. Why? If they can't sign a guy who might be demanding $50 million, how that does mean they won't be able to sign next year's #1 and #2? First: Strasburgh isn't getting $50 mill no matter how many times Boras keeps throwing the number out there. Second: If Washington can't sign the unquestion best prospect of the 2009 draft, who to say to the top 2 prospects in next yr's class don't pull the same crap and Washington is forced into taking players who are easier to sign instead of players who would improve their franchise. It's a moot point anyways, since Strasburg will sign and prolly in the $22-25 million range.
  3. They had the worst record in baseball last year, giving them #1 overall. Last year, they had the 9th overall pick and drafted Aaron Crow. They ended up not signing Aaron Crow. Under the new rules, if a team does not sign a player they drafted in the first round, that team gets a compensatory pick the next year the pick after where where they had the pick last year. Because the Nationals had the 9th overall pick last year and failed sign Crow, they got the 10th overall pick this year. That's what I thought. So, pretending for a minute that the Nats can't sign Strasberg and they finished with the worst record again this year, would they get the top two picks in next year's draft? Yep. Personally, if the Nats can't sign Strasburg, then they should have no business drafting 1 and 2. If you can't sign Strasburg, then chances are you can't sign next yr's top two players.
  4. If they actually get those players, then yeah its a success for Auburn. CNS didn't want any of those guys, so they're not good enough. Right................CNS doesn't need recruiting stunts like what Auburn is doing to get great prospects. And shnsajax there is no guarantee AU can get any of those players. Lattimore (high profile RB) has already removed Auburn as his favorite on dropped them down on his leaderboard. The only prospect AU was able to gain ground on was a solid OG name Mack I believe, who Alabama isn't even recruiting.
  5. MB isn't even the biggest gaffe on the team, much less Hendry's biggest gaffe.
  6. People say buy Extra Innings as it is easy thing to do. I don't the extra money in the budget to buy Extra Innings. I'm looking at the prices, and while they do seem "reasonable", it isn't enough to justify cutting corners in other aspects of the budget. Knowing this, I am prepared to be screwed from following the Cubs outside of the internet, and the ONE time they come to ATL every yr. But hey, maybe just maybe the Cubs will leave Mesa for a Florida spot in a couple of yrs. Well maybe not.
  7. What the heck are we going to do with him? The guy just keeps hitting. We can't find room for Hoff to bat enough, let alone Fox. Not a bad problem, but a bit frustrating, especially since our corner OF spots are locked down for the next 2 years. Hopefully when everyone comes back, Scales is sent down and I guess Blanco down as well. Freel will be DFAd, no? That would leave 13 position players as follows: Soto, Hill, Ramirez, Theriot, Fontenot, Lee, Miles, Soriano, Johnson, Fukudome, Bradley, Fox, Hoffpauir Although I'm sure we'll never be 100% healthy, so that will mix and match. There is literally no reason Blanco shouldn't stay and Miles shouldn't be DFA'd. Blanco can hit almost as well as Miles and play MUCH better defense at two positions whereas Miles plays mediocre defense at one. Of course, that won't happen. Other teams can cut ties with unproductive veterans who is making millions (ie the D'Back a few yrs ago with Russ Ortiz), but the Cubs has to hold onto the unproductive veteran to justify the contract.
  8. But wait, Andy they are going to compound the problem by trading Jake Fox to some random AL team for one of two fringe prospects, and after a month or so, both "prospects" will be no longer in the org, while Fox becomes a productive major leaguer.
  9. hopefully the dirty laundry is soon to follow The dirty laundry won't be released until Pete Carroll resigns from USC.
  10. I don't care what people say...Aaron Miles has the worse contract on the Cubs. Bar none. He is undeserving of the contract, and I hope to hell and back they released his arse this offseason (better yet sometime this season).
  11. I love the irrational hate that is being spewed to a young man. I realize the hatred is more geared towards the Cubs, but hate the Cubs not the player. I'm not thrilled with the pick, but oh well. Don't worry guys, Jackson will be released or traded to another team in 3 years.
  12. A potential deep playoff run with Bears would=a huge payday in 2010. Not to mention would Plax want to have a rookie QB throwing to him?
  13. You know what's interesting: I don't get it. I know the Jets are in need of a WR that could help in the development of Mark Sanchez, but would Plax want to stay in NY and would he want to play for a team with either a rookie QB (Sanchez) or a mediocre QB (Clemens)? Not to mention the Jets have the tremendously big monkey they won't overcome Plax or no Plax. (The Patriots). That means playoffs are less then 50% for the Jets considering they would have to battle the loser of Pittsburgh/Baltimore, Houston (my sleeper pick for 2009), perhaps Jacksonville, Miami, Tennessee for the final two Wild Card spots. Whereas Plax not only would make the Bears a bonafid playoff contender (with help from Cutler) but he would make the Bears one of two heavy favorites to go to the Super Bowl from the NFC (lofty goals, but those expactations went up after acquiring Cutler). Tampa Bay is a non-factor, imo, cause I think they are a team in transistion and are most likely a one and done team in the playoffs, if they make it. So it would come down to NY and Chicago. I usually respect Clayton's opinion, and my homerism for the Bears maybe showing, but I think Burress's fit better with a team closer to winning now then a team who might be a year or two away. Not to mention a deep playoff run (ala Fitzgerald) with the Bears, perhaps, would allow Plax to go back on the market for one last contract. The only reason why he would pick the Jets is if they give him a long-term deal.
  14. I'd say the Cubs will take a INF/C and turn him into a pitcher in under 4 years. Kidding aside, Jackson, Oliver would be picks. I know, I know agreeing for the most part with the vast majority. I'm looking forward to seeing my boy Kent Matthes get drafted in the first 10 rds.
  15. I do agree it makes sense in certain aspects, but what those Cubs fans who can't get the prosposed Cubs channel? Would that mean we're SOL every yr? If it wasn't for Cubs games, Scrubs reruns and Corner Gas, I have no use for WGN. Take the Cubs off WGN and I prolly won't watch WGN all that much. I'd take 50 Cub games a yr on WGN over none on a new network.
  16. You know who hit: 320/.397/.594/.991 in 147 at bats (or with a homerun once every 18 at bats)? You know what he followed that up with: .204/.260/.339/.599 (with a homerun every 34 at bats). Yeah, we didn't need to watch that happen again with a 2nd retread Cardinal player. I appreciate what Edmonds did last yr, but to hope/expect him to do it again would have been foolish. As foolish as signing a guy who has one season of 500+ AB's his entire career and who was a DH at a tee-ball park for $30 million? No, as foolish as to give a utility player who have power, no speed, very little "actual" versatitily on the field, and barely league average hitting ability a 2 yr $5million contract. At least with Bradley it wasn't production that was being question it was his health.
  17. I don't think it's stupid, but trading picks don't make too much sense in baseball only because unlike other sports, players who don't like where they are drafted can opt to go to college, back to college, or to an independent leagues (and keep their draft eligibility). All three options would lead to a future redraft. Trading picks would be great in theory in baseball, but imo has very low value. (Imagine say the Cubs trade a kid say like Jay Jackson and their first rd pick to move up to the low teens --17-21--and they take a HS or draft-eligible college kid they like and expect to sign, but ultimately the kid decides to go to or back to college. Not only do you lose a solid prospect like Jackson but you lose your draft also. I'm not saying this would happen, I'm just saying it is a possibility, albeit remote.) If they could come up with a good system that allows trading picks fine, but this is baseball and they'll mess it up to a point that NY Yankees, Boston Red Sox, NY Mets, and even the Cubs could trade some of the prospects they grow tired of to "cheap" team like Washington, etc, and get a better player. I don't see trading picks happen in baseball, any time soon.
  18. If it's a national network, I'm all for it. But if it's not, then I (and people not living in the Chicago viewing area) would be screwed from following the Cubs on tv. I would have to wait till the Cubs came to Atlanta (Peachtree TV) or hope they get a Nat'l tv game on ESPN, FOX, TBS to follow them. ATP I much rather have less then 50% of Cubs games on WGN over 0% of games on their own personal broadcast channel.
  20. I think this is more then likely a coincidence, seeing as in his career with the Bears Kreutz has only been credited with 6 fumbles (5 of them recovered) in 151 GS. (I know this stat may not tell the whole story, but it's the only thing I can find.)
  21. not funny Neither is this thread.
  22. No team with three former Cubs can win the World Ser....... Oh wait............
  23. Correct, Turner played a role, as did Angelo by letting the line deteriorate. But it sure as hell wasn't the fans' fault that Grossman crapped the bed, especially when so much of that defacation was on the road. Hell, he couldn't handle or execute basic QB - get the snap from the center - on a consistent basis. That might be, but I have heard that Rex's hands are smaller then what teams prefer out of their QBs. Don't know how true that is, and it's not really Rex's fault, if it is.
