  1. If Shaq wins the title, Kobe should say "Shaq can't win it without a premier outside player" :D To which the "Big Shaqtus" would reply that Bryant can't win a title without Phil Jackson....So where is the line drawn? In the "nobody cares" category Exactly.

  3. OKC needs ya more then Chicago does.... Besides you don't want to root for a team that is own by an owner of the other baseball team in Chicago, do you Vanilla?
  4. So.................the Indians series was nothing but an aberration?
  5. I'm tired of waiting for a hot-streak that will prolly never come. Here's to the Bulls having a good draft tomorrow night.
  6. To an untrain eye like myself, it look like a good clean tackle. So, IMO it's worth contesting. Maybe those who follow the game much longer then I can give you a better answer.
  7. Wonder what the return would be Personally I wouldn't mind Outlaw/Blake for Hinrich.
  8. Absolutely. The gun wasn't on, but I swore Mateo was throwing the the low 90s at the worst. Him and Mann were in a classic pitcher's duel. As far as I could tell, even tho he had 5 k's, he didn't really miss too many bats, but on the flip side the Biscuits could not "square up" on anything Mateo threw. Side notes about the game: A couple of people were hit by foul balls on the night including a young girl. Both were said to be ok after the game. The Biscuits announcers were playing "Barney's Theme" every time Barney came up to the plate. Jonathon Mota was the "Coke man" of the night. Meaning if he struck out during his at-bats alot of people would have gotten free Coke-Zero. Fortunately for Mota he grounded out, line a base hit, and walk in the at-bats I saw. There was a nice line of autograph seekers behind the Smokies dugout and Ryno signed every last person until game time. Tony Thomas' error was a mental lapse. I saw once he was ready to throw the ball, it was going to be a bad throw. Seeing as who his manager is, it wouldn't surprise me if Ryno was irked about the throw. Final note: I was pleasantly surprise about the turnout of "Cubs fans" at the game tonight. All in all an enjoyable game. Too bad the Smokies lost, but no real complaints about the game.
  9. I like Branyans bat a lot, but Mark Teahen or Felipe Lopez is more practical for us. I would've thought that it would be obvious by now, but DO NOT BRING IN ANYONE WHO JUST HAD A GREAT YEAR FOR THE CARDINALS (Lopez). Actually Lopez had l 169 at bats for the Cards and it was clearly an abberration. Lopez this yr has been closer to his career norms then his stint with the Cards. So I would mind parting with a part like Patton to get Lopez.
  10. Is there a legit rumor of the Cubs interest in Victor Martinez, or is this pure fan speculation?
  11. That's because Beertown::Hank Aaron as erik316wttn::Dusty Baker of the current game thread starting. :ninja: Haha I'll have you know I had a 9-game winning streak last year. And hey, I'm a good game thread starter because I was on deck when Beertown had that awesome run, man. Oh, and stop clogging my bases! =D>
  12. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-22-bears-marinelli-chicago-jun22,0,649843.story I know and realize it's a fluff piece, but with so many ex-players signing the praises of Rod I have this gut feeling that while Cutler might be the biggest offseason acquisition in recent memory, Coach Rod might be the most important pickup in the offseason.
  13. That's too much. Not if you factor in the 2 draft picks returned for DeRo being a Type A Exactly, I like Sean Marshall and if the Cubs keep Marshall I am fine with it, but if it net Mark DeRosa cool. The Cubs could then re-sign him to a solid 2 yr deal, or let him go and get a couple of draft picks who should have higher upside then Marshall. And seeing as how much DeRosa loves Chicago, I could definately see him re-signing. At this point, I just don't see Hendry admitting publicly he made a mistake in trading DeRosa, and acquiring Mark would just do that. So it is safe to say of all the available players, DeRo is the least likely to be a player the Cubs acquired. (I hope to be proven wrong.)

  15. Was that Carlos Zambrano or Henry Blanco? :D
  16. Touche', Vance.
  17. Money's the problem for us it sounds like. I don't think he'll make a huge positive impact wherever he goes, since he likely doesn't have the gas to be a reliable starter. He'll help any of the three teams' pens, but that's not enough to worry me if our offense is putting it together. Agreed. ATP Pedro is prolly a 5-6 innings pitcher and that would likely tax either team's bullpen quicker. I like Pedro, but he isn't a must for the Cubs right now.
  18. http://montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20090621/SPORTS01/906210320&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL The SMOKIES are in my neck of the woods this week as they take on the Biscuits. Yes, I plan to go watch a couple of the games this week. Nice fluff piece, and apparently Ryno was not "nice" when conducting it.
  19. Chillin' like a villian.....watching what should be a good game. (Not the Cubs game, cause I don't get that game, but the Braves/Red Sox game)/
  20. Why? That's very weird. I'm a Cubs fan above all else in baseball. I don't care who plays for them when they win a WS, I just want to see them win a freaking WS. I like Wood and all, but don't see how it could be the least bit bittersweet to see him give up a run to the Cubs. That maybe, but I have more great memories of Cubs players (especially KW, that nicest ballplayer, I've ever met) especially watching the game with my father and brother. Don't get me wrong, I am fan of the Cubs organization, BUT I do have my favorite current and former Cub players. And KW is one of my favorite players. So it sucks the Cubs had to let him go, and then watch him blow the game.
  21. KW will always be one of my top 5 Cubs of all time. Even when I see him blow a save against the Cubs, is like a stab in the gut. It's bittersweet, I love it that the Cubs tied it, but it sucks it had to be at the expense of KW. Really? I can't understand that. I'm upset he's not wearing a Cub uni, but I REALLY want to beat him. I didn't say I'm upset he's not wearing a Cub uni, I said it is bittersweet. I am fan of the organization, of course, but I am a bigger fans of the players who play(ed) for the organization.

  23. Which is more then proves the point. If Lovie knows he's on the hotseat, he should be (at least I know I would be) trying to convince my boss to give me the best team possible. If I (or in this case Smith) can't coach up the talent then the coach should be fired. But it also goes to show that if Angelo has to fired Smith, then logically speaking Angelo would then be on the hotseat. Which means it is in the best interests of both guys to put the best team possible out on the field, for job security.
  24. But Angelo and Lovie might be. I think a big reason for the trade was Angelo felt he had to do something to significantly improve the 2009 team. Exactly. Which is why they haven't close the book on acquiring a WR like Marshall or Plax. I thought that was abundantly clear when Angelo was trying to acquire Boldin during the draft.
