  1. Just moving him over doesn't accomplish much. You are then putting it all on one batter to drive him in with a deep fly. I'd rather Soto try and drive him in with a hit.
  2. What do you mean? He gave up a weak infield single that should have been an out to the shortstop and then the next guy hit a single to drive him in. Not sure what settling down has to do with it. To be fair, not throwing a dirtball would have given Soto a pretty good chance to gun Bay out. The guy throwns ridiculous curve balls, they are going to go in the dirt from time to time.

  4. The Riot has actually been pretty decent lately. Great. He'll manage another good month that'll inflate his season stats and blind the management to how badly he stinks the rest of the season. Way to be a fan. I would think a fan's main concern would be the longterm quality of the team (meaning, full season and future seasons, as opposed to past two weeks). In that case, wishing for improvement makes a lot of sense for a fan.
  5. People keep writing this, and Theriot keeps getting on base (almost a .400 OBP the last two weeks). That's nice and all, but pretty pointless. Just state what his full season OBP is to show he hasn't been horrible.
  6. It would be interesting to hear the reasoning, and not just the public one. I thought I'd read he was bound for Boise, was that just speculation by the ill-informed or has he changed some minds?
  7. So you're saying that there are zero teams that would trade Frank Thomas offense for his bad defense at 1st base? The easiest position on the field? The #1 position for hiding a guy that can hit but can't field or run a lick? Really? The Big Hurt hasn't been all that special the past 1+ seasons. So I'm not sure why anybody cares whether or not they can still see him play. However, there are currently 12 teams with an OPS below 750 out of their 1B position. There were 14 teams that finished 2007 with a sub 800 OPS out of 1B. I'd assume many of them would be more than happy to have Thomas replace their 1B production, regardless of defense, even though he's off to a slow start.
  8. Yeah it could of been handled a better way. It was a total dick move by the ESPN guy. I can sympathize with a 19 year old Tejada doing whatever he can to catch a break (and how pathetic is it that he had to lie about his age to convince somebody to sign him). But he's been misrepresenting his age to employers and potential employers for years, why is it wrong for ESPN to expose him? Could the Cubs void his contract over this? I doubt they have the authority to pull that off.
  9. That's really really depressing to think about. Don't forget about Juan Cruz at the #5 spot. The guy has Pedro-like stuff. He still has that stuff, his K/9 is sick. I don't know why he has never gotten a real chance to start in the bigs. He's had chances but he's always been injured. Can't really blame the organization for that one. Were you talking about Cruz or Guzman as always injured? Guzman has been far to fragile. I think PV was talking about Cruz. He's been given a couple shots to start, but he still walks far too many guys. I'd bet he could outperform a lot of guys making more money than him though.
  10. You mean just like baseball? The NFL is like that because the AFL and NFL were two seperate leagues, and when they merged they went to two conferences.
  11. I'm kind of hungover and apparently suffering from allergies for the first time in my life, so I'm not happy about anything right now.
  12. That's just a bunch of nonsensical words. Invest two weeks to take a look at Patterson in spot duty? What the heck is that going to do for you?
  13. I was just poking fun at the title, which I thought was initially made when it was unclear whether or not we'd do this draft.

  15. Is this still a potential mock draft?

  17. I can understand the other things (agreeing with them to varying degrees), but why Henry Blanco? Lou has only started him 3 times out of 15 games. That's normal for a backup catcher, and if you take Blanco away from Lou that only means that Lou will have Koyie Hill for those 3 games. I think keeping Blanco was a mistake. He's not a very good backup catcher in terms of what he provides from an offensive and defensive standpoint. Soto needs his rest, but, at the same time, I'd like to see a guy back him up who can either get on base or who is a plus defender behind the dish. I don't think Blanco is either. Clearly it was a mistake, but the mistake was Hendry's contract offer. There's not much you can do now. A competent GM would have given his manager a minimum wage backup catcher who would do the same things Henry does, if not more.
  18. It's fun to stay stupid stuff isn't it?
  19. Are there any good DBs available for the Ravens?
  20. Briggs is unhappy too? How? I'm starting to hate this team. Considering Briggs got a lot less than he thought he could get, I could see making the assumption he's unhappy. He doesn't have a leg to stand on in that argument however, and neither does Urlacher. None of this talk matters though.
  21. As unclutch as he is, Encarnacion has no future.
  22. Pat and Ron are talking like Blanco missed the sign. The way Lou looked in the dugout afterwards leads me to believe it wasn't his doing. Or he was just mad it wasn't executed as called.
  23. Any PA from Blanco that only results in one out has to be considered a success.
