  1. I will wait until the Philly series. Freaking after one game fits the Philly mold as well. When do they go to Philly? They go next Friday, I go Saturday and Sunday. next Friday, not this Friday
  2. Can't do it....I work in an office with a large number of Cubs fans. Last year I tried blocking out the games a couple of times, and every time it was ruined by someone screaming "ARAMIS HOME RUN!!!" or something like that. There is no way I'd be able to keep the outcome of the game a secret in my office. well how are they watching the game but not you? I would guess radio or gamecast. I've tried ignoring the games midday and watching it for the first time when getting home. It doesn't work. The only time it has is when I've had a softball game and could easily avoid it. But even then I check my phone for updates. I still don't know how my wife puts up with me checking 100 times a night when out to dinner.
  3. It's amazing how the entire Wrigley thing has escalated. I remember going to Cubs games with my Dad and half the ballpark was empty........on the weekend, no less. It all changed in 1984. Not really. It was really easy to get face value tickets from 85-98. By the end of 98, tickets were hard to get. 98 changed everything. The disaster of 99/00 eased some of the demand, but by then people were hooked and preseason sellouts were the norm. 2003 solidified it and now it'll take a lot to deflate that demand.

  5. Perhaps that's true. But I'd still prefer to see the Bears upgrade safety over tackle.
  6. I think you are downplaying the very significant difference between Harris and Brown. And that is where the biggest difference is. The Bears could use a DT to slot in next to Brown. They still need an elite safety.
  7. Safety wasn't much of an issue late in the season. The Bears have much bigger issues than safety, namely OL, RB, WR, DT. I don't see DT as nearly a big a problem as S. At least the Bears have 1 pro bowl caliber DT who is a reasonable bet to play 16 games. All the other guys they cycled in there are basically of the same caliber as all the safeties the Bears used. And Dvoracek is probably capable of being better than any Bears safety. OT, OG, WR, QB and probably RB are needed ahead of S. But safety is definitely a need.
  8. I will wait until the Philly series.
  9. Why didn't you "green" Damian Miller for Michael Barrett? Also, we didn't really draft Josh Hamilton. We traded the pick to the reds, they told us who to draft. Such lists and grading of deals are unnecessary. 407-404. Zero 90 win seasons. Given the resources he's had, that's pathetic. Also, consider that he had tremendous input into the makeup of the team as Asst GM during the previous 220-266 seasons, and was the main man for the minor leagues in the previous half decade. Jim Hendry has been given more than enough resources and more than enough time to get the job done, and he hasn't done it.
  10. I think I agree with this. Except they sucked in 2005 as well. But this goes back to the MacPhail statement about being competitive within the division. It was a horrible strategy. Everybody likes to talk about the playoffs being a crapshoot, but that story is overplayed. A crapshoot suggest quality of team plays no role whatsoever. You can still tilt things in your favor by making the best team possible. And as a top payroll team in the NL, there's no excuse not to have been for several years.
  11. Who cares? What matters is whether or not the team wins. And Hendry's teams have not come close to winning enough games that it would make it unfair to complain. People have been suggesting alternatives for years. The best alternative would be to stop living in 1950 and actually adopt some objective analytical methods. It must be exhausting being you. Everything you say is so negative. I don't get much enjoyment in lying to myself.

  13. Or they thought the dirt was too messy to take advantage.
  14. what!!! You still haven't let WWII go? Money can change any habit, but not this one, regardless of how hot trade with Japan is.
  15. Only Dutchie should be allowed to profit off her dead husband's popularity.
  16. Theriot is the brightest example of Cubs management incompetence. He's a horrible SS, whom, 2 years ago, people were wondering if he had enough to be a competent utility man, and now he's the everyday leadoff man. He fills the position that most needed replacement going into the season, and management did nothing. Pitchers are just going to throw him strike after strike because he's not a threat to do anything with most pitches. Through no fault of his own, he's the current symbol for all that has ailed the Cubs of the Andy/Hendry ERA.
  17. Agreed. It's an institution. Doesn't he say, "Chicago Cubs Baseball is on the air!"
  18. but he's a prototypical leadoff hitter! Is he gritty at all? Isn't he black? Because you have to be white and short to be gritty. And it helps if you were a punter at your college. you can be half-white too. (Derek Jeter) Jeter is way too good to be called gritty.
  19. and he'd probably refuse to hang out with elitists as well....I mean, mind saying why he's a 'meat head and idiot'? Because he is both a meat head, and an idiot. as are most former players. at least he didn't end up like daulton, thinking lizard men are coming to take him away. I think it would be much more entertaining to hang out with crazy though.

  21. I've been thinking this way for a while now. If they go BPA, it's very likely that will be a RB. It's clearly a need. Sadly, I could see the Bears waiting til the 3rd to get an OT, depending on what DT or WR is there in the 2nd. If that's the case, they better have some inside knowledge about likely June 1 cuts. It doesn't matter who runs the ball if all they do is add a third round (and likely 2nd/3rd rate) rookie to the tackle rotation.
  22. I have a feeling they either won't make 60 combined starts (most likely) or if they do, it will be because they surprised on the upside.
  23. I wouldn't hang out with him or listen to him. He's a complete meat head and idiot.
