    No, they should put out the team that will give them the best chance of winning on a given night. Right now, Johnson gives them a much better chance than Pie does. This isn't directed towards you... just a general statement. But it seems like some people are fans of Pie first and the Cubs second. I'm a fan of the Cubs finally developing another quality position player, which Felix has a really, really good chance of being. The team's offense recently demonstrates that in no way is Reed Johnson the person they need in there for them to win. Again, I have no problem with him getting the start in the last two games as they faced lefties, but with how this team has been raking, Felix should be in there more due to the "safety net" of the team's general offense. The second really is unnecessary. And the first is probably overkill as well. I think he's got somewhere between a decent-to-good chance of being a quality position player. Soto has a really, really good chance. And may already be a quality position player.

    I'm having a hard time seeing the argument against those who have spoken out against these shirts. A shirt that pointed out the unique stereotypical characterizations, no matter how accurate, of a black, hispanic or any other category of player, would not be tolerated. I also don't just blame the idiots who bought them and absolve the sellers, both are idiots, and far worse than simply insensitive.

    I look at it as the best Bears player of the past decade, by a wide margin, who is still a very good player and likely to remain very good, is looking for a final extension on his contract that will provide him with his last great financial income from his playing career. That extension will not come close to handicapping the Bears against the cap (they have great leverage in the negotiations because of what's left on his contract), and therefore I don't have a problem with him wanting it. I don't see it as greedy. The guy got divorced after his last contract, likely meaning his first wife took a great deal of that money. He's getting married again (idiot) and only has a few years left in his life where he can reasonably expect to make a high income. Say all you want about having more money than any reasonable person can expect in life, he deserves what he can get. As the Bears, I'd rather take care of this now, than 1 or 2 years from now where he has more incentive to sit out, be a troublemaker or otherwise make things difficult. They can pretty much throw him a bone now and be done with it, or wait for him to demand even more if he has a solid 2008.

    I'm worried about where this is headed, given the team's history. But I don't have a problem with how the CF situation has been handled to date. I like Reed against lefties - guys who have routinely handcuffed the Cubs in recent years. I also like that Pie has gotten an appearance or two against lefties. Hopefully he'll be getting a few more swings against righties coming up and going forward.

    I think he's ready to get promoted to the Angels. They can't just take the Cubs AAAA players without compensation. Dave Littlefield doesn't work for us anymore. Did he ever really work for you guys before? He did some good things for us. More awful than good to be sure. But, some things were good. No good saboteur screws everything up.

    The dimensions are the same, the quality of field is probably different. And you also have faster runners down the line so you can't take your time making the throw to 1st and may feel rushed, guys hitting harder shots at you, probably some better bunting to deal with.

    It's possible they wanted to pull Hill then so he could leave the game on a positive note. He wasn't great today, but the results up until that point were. Had he gone back out and struggled, it might have carried over into his next start. I've fairly certain that was exactly the point.

    Hoping a player fails so his backup can provide barely a modicum of improvement, instead of actually rooting for a player to continue performing at a level above what either would have been expected to do is stupid. Well, when you put in that way................

    Just moving him over doesn't accomplish much. You are then putting it all on one batter to drive him in with a deep fly. I'd rather Soto try and drive him in with a hit. That's what I wanted, jsut worded it wrong, but at the very least it wouldve been nice to get the guy to third so the next guy can just make contact to get him in Making contact hardly guarantees the run scores from third. The only thing you can ask is that Geo get a pitch he can hit and try and drive it. It would have been nice if he moved over, but that's not his main job and there's no reason getting upset over it not happening.

    Forgive my ignorance, but does he even make that much? Isn't that around the major league minimum? If he's not on the major league team, does he still make that? I believe being on the 40-man major league roster makes him eligible for the major league minimum.

    What do you mean? He gave up a weak infield single that should have been an out to the shortstop and then the next guy hit a single to drive him in. Not sure what settling down has to do with it. To be fair, not throwing a dirtball would have given Soto a pretty good chance to gun Bay out. The guy throwns ridiculous curve balls, they are going to go in the dirt from time to time.

    The Riot has actually been pretty decent lately. Great. He'll manage another good month that'll inflate his season stats and blind the management to how badly he stinks the rest of the season. Way to be a fan. I would think a fan's main concern would be the longterm quality of the team (meaning, full season and future seasons, as opposed to past two weeks). In that case, wishing for improvement makes a lot of sense for a fan.

    People keep writing this, and Theriot keeps getting on base (almost a .400 OBP the last two weeks). That's nice and all, but pretty pointless. Just state what his full season OBP is to show he hasn't been horrible.

    It would be interesting to hear the reasoning, and not just the public one. I thought I'd read he was bound for Boise, was that just speculation by the ill-informed or has he changed some minds?

    So you're saying that there are zero teams that would trade Frank Thomas offense for his bad defense at 1st base? The easiest position on the field? The #1 position for hiding a guy that can hit but can't field or run a lick? Really? The Big Hurt hasn't been all that special the past 1+ seasons. So I'm not sure why anybody cares whether or not they can still see him play. However, there are currently 12 teams with an OPS below 750 out of their 1B position. There were 14 teams that finished 2007 with a sub 800 OPS out of 1B. I'd assume many of them would be more than happy to have Thomas replace their 1B production, regardless of defense, even though he's off to a slow start.
