  1. I've thought that since the season started. Hoping the Jays and A's really start to suck but Harden and Burnett show themselves to be healthy till the trade deadline so that we can pick one of them up. Harden is due to come off the DL this weekend. I know it's rolling the dice in terms of health, and Cubs fans are tired of that to be sure, but a Z, Harden 1,2 punch in the playoffs would be a thing of beauty. Especially with a good, patient offense. I think Zambrano, Hill and Lilly can be a very solid 1-3, and that Dempster may just be a very solid 4/5. Marshall or Gallagher may be able to eventually fill the other spot, with Lieber getting the occasional start against non LH heavy lineups. I'm in no hurry to see him go after pitching. It's too darn expensive.
  2. It's terrible, but hearing it makes me happy Same Exactly. To me it epitomizes the eternally optimistic "lovable losers" tag. It's cute and cuddly and disgustingly bad. I'm gonna have to disagree with you. Eternally optomistic and lovable losers have nothing to do with each other.
  3. Except for the insane uproar that would cause with the media and fans, perhaps.
  4. He's his own slump buster? Or maybe he's like a female celebrity's slump buster. If they haven't had a Jeter in a while go for Grace.
  5. If they get to his spot I'm sure they will pinch hit, but I could see him coming out if it's 1-2-3.
  6. That sounds dirty. Ron Santo Seattle Sutton diet commercial. First pitch out there was big with Lilly approaching 100. They should probably pull him as soon as somebody reaches.
  7. Really Pat? 100 out of 100 times they'd walk a batter with a .290 OPB to get to the pitcher? How about the "make the pitcher leadoff the next inning strategy?" Come on, don't be so afraid to question a manager, they aren't all infallible.
  8. Good job by Lilly, but I think I'd have given the IBB to Reed there, too. A guy who can't hit righties should'nt be IBB.
  9. OBP by outs 0 - .367 1 - .407 2 - .332 With 2 outs RISP .344. They don't really get on a lot with 2 outs, and when they do it's more often with risp than anything else.
  10. Is it even true that they have fewer front office types than most teams? They have about a half dozen special assistants to the GM. They've got 15 names in the baseball ops section. I'm sure teams like the Mets and White Sox, with a bunch of people actually considered part of the ownership group, probably have more names. And the Yankees seemingly have 2 front offices, in the Bronx and in Tampa. But I've never heard anything about the Cubs lacking bodies in the front office. I think I remember reading something that said the Cubs have the fewest full-time employees (employees working all year round) than any other team in baseball. Sounds more like back office types than what I consider front office. Front office are your heads of baseball operations and whatnot. Marketing and ticket sales people are more like support staff, especially for a team like the Cubs that doesn't need help selling tickets.

  12. Sounded fairly tame on the radio. But the team has been playing horribly, they are losing early in game 1 of a homestand against a team that embarrassed them in the playoffs. They wasted a leadoff hit, and a completely frozen stiff Soriano made another out. I think there was a lot too boo about if somebody was prone to the booing.
  13. Personally, Id rather see Cotts up than Eyre. Maybe Marshall can prove himself in AAA, but with Lous mentality lately, it wont really matter. I agree with LLF, Cotts has been piching real well at Iowa. Why not give him a shot? There are rules about major league players and rehab assignments. Basically, they had to bring up Eyre pretty soon anyway or cut him. He's also a veteran the Cubs invested a bad contract in, so rules or no rules, he was getting first dibs.
  14. Oh darn, you mean I don't get to watch him K 3 times today? No, but you do get to watch Reed continue to suck it up hardcore against another lefty.
  15. How early did the Marlins make the move in 2003?
  16. How is Fuld doing at Iowa? A sterling .192/.288/.269 in 52 ABs Wow....that ain't good. Thanks JG. To be fair, he's battled a thumb injury that might be a primary reason his numbers are down. To be fairer, he's not really that good. raw is the fairest of them all.
  17. It makes sense to me that he'd be considered one of the best by the people who agree with his methods, while people with opposite viewpoints would not hold him in high esteem.
  18. They're skipping him on the theory that the less he pitches the better off the team will be. They aren't really skipping him. They are pushing him back a couple days. With an off day yesterday he'll have 7 days rest instead of what would have been 5 (had the rotation remain intact).
  19. Of course the same holds true for your 17th, 18th, 19th and probably, 45th birthdays.
  20. They are currently investigating the situation with all unsigned free agents.
  21. I assumed the question spoke for itself. In other words, will he be president for the entire term or will something, anything, prevent that from happening. It can be morbid, but it's not absurd. World leaders not lasting their entire term can happen. And more than one US president has failed to fill out his term. I agree its not absurd. But why isn't there a poll asking if John McCain would make it all 4 years? He's not black (and I'm assuming this was the impetus for the discussion) , but he's pretty damn old. I don't think you really needed to ask the question. A first-time black president is unique. An old guy is not. Plus, if Barack gets the nomination, he's also most likely to win. Obama has some Kennedy/MLK qualities to him, and we all know those histories. It's a legit issue.
  22. Most 21st birthdays involve guys getting so wasted they either wouldn't remember a hook-up, or would hook-up with somebody not worth it. All those positives of Halloween are exactly the same with or without the birthday. Your costume will bring the attention. July 4 has girls in bikinis. The day-time can be family oriented, but the bars won't be, and that's where a 21-year old is going. I don't know anybody who doesn't go out for the 4th. Cinco de Mayo involves tequila, so while there may not be the same quality...... Agree on New Years. As for your last point. That can only be true if you live in the boonies. If people want to find a crowd, they can, any day of the week in any decent city in America.
