  1. his career numbers are far better as a leadoff hitter than batting anywhere else, which would tend to argue against your point. That really doesn't tell us anything. He's spent most of his career in the leadoff spot. He played his best season from the leadoff spot. But the only year he spent playing the majority at 5, he was better there than leading off. And the year he spent mostly at 3, he had a better OBP there than leadoff, but better power at leadoff. He's been inconsistent throughout his career, both leading off and elsewhere.
  2. David Haugh, predictably, says give the guy his money. Which is what he's said about everybody. There are two ways of looking at this. One, he's signed for a while longer and questionable as for his health and ability going forward. On the other hand, he's relatively cheap, and because he's still got three years to go, the Bears could "extend" him at a reasonable rate. It would be better than both pissing him off, and then being forced to talk extension closer to the time of this contract expiring. If you assume Urlacher plays well for another 2 years, at that point there will be no getting around the problem. And you will probably be forced to pay even more. As long as an extension isn't franchise crippling, I say you think long and hard about it. He may never play at the level he's played at so far, but he's still going to be a pretty darn good linebacker.
  3. Pitt is a rainy town and they wanted to get the home opener in either today or tomorrow.
  4. Lottery draw tonight. Let's go Hawks!
  5. A good 50 hours until the next reliever has to throw.
  6. It's also fun to wake up at 5:20 in the afternoon.
  7. ump must have thought ball went into center, because he looked out by a wide margin.
  8. Yes. And the runner at 3rd could have scored but he didn't run. Had he broke on the pitch, yes. But if he went after contact, the ball got to Lee so quickly he would have been out.
  9. It wasn't that wild of a throw. It was pretty standard given the play. No, it was wild because it pulled Lee way off the base instead of getting the out to end the inning. I'm not saying it was Cedeno wild... it wasn't wild
  10. It wasn't that wild of a throw. It was pretty standard given the play.
  11. need many more runs, let Wuertz and Lieber finish up with no need for a closer.
  12. Stupid Pirates radio guy: When you have a guy who is tough to run on you just have to go on first movement, put your head down and run. Or maybe you could just, I don't know, not run?
  13. IMO, it's not a rally if it's before the 7th inning. That's weird.
  14. I would be shocked if Lou put DeRosa at SS for anything other than spot duty. I don't even think he likes him playing 2nd.
  15. It's more than a mild annoyance but less than a total perversion of the game.
  16. Last year, Jason Kendall, Ryan Therito, Cliff Floyd/Jacque Jones were everyday starters for a contending team. If Soriano, Aram, DLee, Fukudome, Soto and DeRo hit like they are capable of then you can live with a starting CF learning the ropes playing great defense. Theriot on the other hand doesnt bring defense or offense to the table, but the Cubs could still be contenders with both of them in the lineup. However, an upgrade at SS would make things much much easier, while letting the organizations top prospect play defense and provide what offense he can. Pie has shown an uncanny ability to make adjustments at every level hes been on when hes been given a chance to fight thru his struggles, and Im praying the Cubs are patient enough to let him see if he can make the adjustments at this level. OK, so you agree with me. Thanks. No, it looks like he disagrees, since he said they can be contenders with both in the lineup. All he said is that an upgrade of SS would make it easier.
  17. yeah, because theriot is to cedeno what ramirez is to fontenot. good point. yea because the sample size of cedeno is large enough to draw meaningful conclusions from it. (not directed to anyone in particular but) when are we going to realize and acknowledge Cedeno and the Riot BOTH suck big time? It is well known and acknowledged that Cedeno sucks right now. What is not acknowledged by some, for God knows what reason, is that there is reason to hope for improvements out of Cedeno. I don't understand why this has to be repeated so often.
  18. No, but any thread that gets bumped for the sole purpose of saying, "I told you so!" and then more people piling on has a great chance of being locked. The "Wood will be the greatest closer ever" thread was started Thursday had a number of posts Friday, Saturday and now today yet was locked by Banedon. For what reason? If it's because someone said "I told you so" or was being sarcastic, you're going to have approximately 127 locked threads in the next few months. I didn't post anything in there, it just seems extremely odd. 3 threads were bumped with the sole purpose of rubbing in the fact that Wood has done well. It was unnecessary. This one had been around the longest, and had recent posts, so it seemed like it was a good one to keep around. In any case, there isn't anything that would have been posted in there that can't be posted in here. The topics are quite similar. If there's 127 Wood threads bumped for this reason, than 127 locks it will be. But those who wanted to rip his chances without any legitimate basis for it WAS necessary? So in essence you can say anything you want about any player you want, and aren't held accountable for what you say? OF course people are going to feel vindicated when he does well, and it's human nature to want to express that vindication. I told you so is alot better, IMHO, than some of the personal sniping that goes back and forth. Sham Closer for president! What happens if in 3 months Wood goes on the DL? Does the vindication title change hands?
  19. I think I want one of those.
  20. I think that would be in doubt this year. The OBP different may make up for the power difference.
  21. That is not an insane proposition. And it's practically a lock when you then take the Soriano money and apply it to another position.
