  1. Okay, IF i'm the GM, here's what I do: (Warning: it's radical) Florida claims Dontrelle and Cabrera are not going anywhere. I make them change their mind. If they're willing to give up a potential multiple-cy young winner for top prspects, then I overwhelm them with more for Miggy (who I believe will eclipse Pujols in the next two years). 1. Pie, Hill, Nolasco, Dopirak, Walker, Patterson and Cash for Miguel Cabrera and 2 PTBNL. 2. Sign Brian Giles for 3 years 36 million 3.Sign Rafael Furcal for 4 years 40 million 4.Leave the starting pitching as is. Even with the worst-case scenario, we'll have the best offense in baseball to fall back on. If everyone does stay healthy, we'll win 110+ games and be lethal in the postseason. Furcal SS Murton LF Cabrera RF Lee 1B Giles CF Ramirez 3B Barrett C Cedeno 2B Zambrano Prior Wood Maddux Rusch Will it happen....no. Could I pull it off....I think so.
  2. Yes, these bullpen moves are VERY bold. If they revert to their career norms, Hendry is going to look like a fool. What I'm hoping for is this scenario: -Hendry has preliminary discussions on obtaining an impact bat for the outfield (Abreu, Dunn, Manny). -The other team wants lots of pitching (Williams, Wuertz, Novoa, Nolasco) -Hendry doesn't want to make the deal before acquiring "proven" arms to replace them. -The deal is so big, Hendry is willing to overpay to move things along quickly. Perhaps this is a fantasy, but I think it's very possible.
  3. Unfortunately, I believe the team's hitting philosophy is to be aggressive in any count. I can easily see Wilkerson, Bradley or any hitter suffering a significant drop in OBP% after joining the cubs.
  4. That lineup is in every way better than the 2005 Houston Astros, who made it to the world series on the strength of their pitching. We are obviously built around our pitching staff. We should be able to win a lot of games, even with an average offense. Just playing the devils advocate, as I know we should be able to afford a much better right fielder who would make our lineup one of the best in the league.
  5. Barry Zito has a mediocre fastball and a knee-buckling curveball. He ocassionally mixes in the change, but not too often. Funny that Hill has similar stuff, and still K's people at such a high rate. If Hill has the mental makeup, he can be a very effective pitcher, IMO.
  6. Sadly, I do not want Wilkerson near a Dusty Baker team. He is a lefty begging to be misused, seeing as for his career he is much better against left handed pitchers. Dusty will figure this out (maybe) in September, when we are 8 games back. Until then, he will hit Brad 5th against righties and 7th against lefties (if in the lineup at all). I understand this does not negate his positive effect on the lineup, however it does dilute it. Wilkerson could still be useful, but counting on him to be the centerpiece acquisition this winter is asking for trouble, IMO.
  7. Why did Guzman throw around 120 through the five innings? In reference to having one bad inning (2nd) in which Guzman gave up both BB and two hits. Outside that inning, he was dominating.
  8. How many more games before the AFL is over? And does anybody how impressive EPATT's .300ish Avg is in the AFL? Does his showing warrant a promotion all the way to AA to start the season? The AFL is traditionally a highly offensive league. Think thin Arizona air and Spring training ballparks. Many good players put up .320+ averages each year.
  9. Angel strikes out the side in the first (including Howie Kendrick), then gives up 2 in the second on 2BB and 2 singles. Through 5, Angel's line: 5IP 5H 2ER 2 BB 6K Very Kerry Wood like.
  10. Maybe for Miguel Cabrera. Maybe. Not only is Z already one of the top 10 starters in baseball, It's obvious he's on the doorstep of something MUCH better. Come to think of it, I don't trade him for anyone straight up.
  11. That's what we need to improve. Have you looked at Giles slg% splits between petco and the road? He could easily hit 25-30 playing in the NL central. As far as going cheap....why? We have money to spend and a glaring hole in right field.
  12. Down by one with two outs, Murton comes through with an RBI double to tie it.
  13. Murton goes 1-3, lowering his average to .480.
  14. We're giving up WAY too much there. No way do we trade Prior AND ARam for A-Rod. I don't think a single player in baseball is worth both Prior AND ARam. There are hardly any TWO players I would trade Prior and Ramirez for. Both young top notch talents yet to enter their prime. In virtually any acceptable scenario, we would be adding payroll AND getting older. The best I can come up with is Cabrera and Beckett/Dontrelle. Maybe. People are vastly underestimating Mark Prior. This is a guy who, after a disappointing season, has a career 3.24 ERA (better than Johan Santana, Carlos Zambrano or Curt Schilling) and 1.19 WHIP who will be 25 for most of next season. Have we forgotten how rare this is? His career numbers across the board mirror those of Roger Clemens. His baseball intelligence is through the roof and he is highly disciplined. It would be hard to trade this guy straight up for ANYONE, and pretend that it gives our team a better chance to win the world series in the next five years. You advocate not only trading this man away, but tossing in the heart of our lineup, a .300 hitter, our enigmatic center fielder and a live bullpen arm.................................................................................for one man? No thank you.
  15. I agree that "eventful" does not necessarily mean we improve. However, my point was that I believe Hendry feels a great amount of pressure to win NOW (because of the reasons illustrated above). He can't have watched the entire season without develping a good idea of what we need (OBP%). Obviously Jacque Jones and Juan Pierre < Brian Giles and Marcus Giles. I imagine he knows this. Do you really believe this? If we added just Brian and Marcus our team OBP% skyrockets. Murton Giles Lee Giles Ramirez Barrett Cedeno Patterson That's just two pickups, well within our budget. This lineup would score runs, undoubtedly.
  16. I really hope/think that Hendry realizes a window is open for the cubs right now, but that window will soon be closing. Perhaps we will only get one or two seasons where Prior, Wood and Zambrano are all pitching at the top of their game. Jim has to know this, and have all the other pieces in place if and when it occurs. He has done a good job of this so far, IMO. This is why I think we will have a very eventful offseason.
  17. Craig Biggio has more homeruns than our power hitting/strikeout prone right-fielder. :(
  18. I'm confused. From what I understand, Palmeiro simply stated that Miggy gave him B-12 (which Tejada admitted) and it caused the faulty test. There was never any implication involving Tejada and steroids, right?
  19. Not really important but there were only two on.
  20. Lee intentionally walked. Nomar doubles in two. Cubs lead.
  21. Okay. New lineup. Murton Maddux (bunt 'em over) Prior (knock 'em in) Lee Garciaparra Zambrano Burnitz Barrett
  22. Neifi walks. Bases loaded. We are officially in the twilight zone.
  23. It is sickening to see Derrek deprived of having Murton on base all the time at the top.
  24. Murton singles up the middle. On an 0-2 pitch. At bat twice, on base twice. Why bat him at the top?
