  1. It really is maddening to hear Dusty say over and over that he has to balance playing rookies with trying to win, when Murton and Cedeno are both hitting over .300 and playing better fundamental baseball than anyone on the team.
  2. Not enough balance. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x No way will Tribune take on Manny's contract. Damon is a lead-off hitter, but he still can hit 20-25 HR's. Look what our 2004 team did. 4 guys w/ 30+ HR's and we didn't make the playoffs. Wood's health will determine everything, IMO. No balance? High OBP% down the board, speed at the top, power in the middle, patience at the bottom. The four guys in '04 were hurt badly by Sammy in the middle, and no OBP% at the top. To each his own, but I'd take that team over the Cardinals.
  3. Of course, we would still have money left over. If we really splurged and kept Nomar and went after Damon, we'd have to be world-series favorites. Damon Walker Lee Ramirez Ramirez Garciaparra Murton Barrett Zambrano Prior Burnett Wood Maddux Looks like an all-star team.
  4. Interesting how everyone is concentrating on free agents. I happen to think this off-season's biggest move will come via trade. Hendry will be aggressive with money to spend coming off of a dismal year. My current belief is that Manny Ramirez will become a cub in January. I think Wagner is a slim possibility but Ryan will be re-signed by Baltimore, as they have the cash and incentive to keep him. I think our big free agent will be A.J Burnett I think CF will be left between Patterson and Pie. I think Murton's arm will be tested in RF I think Walker's option will be picked up. Nomar will be gone and Cedeno will play short until he has an 0-4 (likely in spring training), at which point Neifi will take over for the rest of the season) The bullpen will be anchored by Dempster and Williamson. Ohman as the LOOGY, Hill as the main lefty. Other spots to be won in spring training. Thus: Cedeno Walker Lee Ramirez Ramirez Murton Patterson Barrett Zambrano Prior Burnett Wood Maddux Ohman Hill Williamson Dempster Van Buren ?? ?? Neifi Macias Blanco Pie LH power Which, in my mind looks great (except for Pie). However, as soon as a couple injuries occur, we have Cedeno Neifi Lee Ramirez Macias Murton Patterson Blanco Zambrano Maddux Hill ??? ???
  5. Murton should start everyday with Patterson, Hairston and Burnitz rotating. Cedeno should start everyday. Period. This is becoming comical.
  6. Wow. Season over, and now Dusty uses the squeeze. I'm confounded by this man.
  7. Surely both Murton and Cedeno will be starting tonight, so it should be a fun game to watch.
  8. Exactly. Murton stepped up, we just didn't play him enough. Grieve could have stepped up, we didn't play him, either.
  9. OHO! Filthy! Brenly: " Im not quite sure what that was"
  10. I have a BAAADDD feeling about this.
  11. Bases Loaded, grounder Lee to Nomar for one, Nomar throws it into the dugout, two runs score. 3-2 cubs.
  12. I have a feeling he won't be when Hairston is activated. Yeah, if he's not starting tonight with good career #s vs Oswalt, I have to think you may be right.
  13. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GONE!
  14. Through 2 innings: Zambrano- 20 pitches Oswalt- 36 pitches
  15. Even though that inning went 1-2-3, every hitter worked the count for at least five pitches. That is the kind of inning that pays dividends around the fifth or sixth.
  16. I understand your point. The jist of what I was trying to point out is overall, Carlos has been absolutely dominant. It's just a couple of bad innings that disguise this.
  17. In honor of the biggest game of the season to date (and out of complete boredom) I decided to sift through some numbers on our own Carlos Zambrano. ( 24 starts, 3.17 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) Some intersting facts: Subtract just THREE starts, and Carlos' ERA is a full run lower at 2.17, good for #2 in MLB. In fact taking away just the disaster INNING in Milwaukee and his ERA stands at 2.76 24 Total starts 10 unbelievable starts in which he has 81 innings and only 3 ER 7 good starts in which he has 47 innings and 17 ER 7 poor starts in which he has 32 innings and 35 ER These numbers back up the feeling I have had for awhile.... If not for a few lackadaisical innings, we would be seeing a lot of Clemens/Zambrano discussions.
  18. Granted, the pitching has been atrocious. But the offense should by no means get off the hook. Facing Wandy Rodriguez in this park should yield more than four runs.
  19. I'm on record. If we win this game, we win the World Series.
  20. Okay, we need to average 2.5 runs per inning to win this game. Of course, we also have to give up zero.....so....
  21. Anyone know whos has gotten the most ABs for the cubs this season? That's right.................Jeromy Burnitz!!!! This is not good, by the way.
