  1. I just hope Murton is in there tomorrow, as he's been all over Bush the couple of times we've faced him. (edit) good to know :-)
  2. I would really prefer giving up Demp in that scenario. I think Wuertz could handle closing until the job is handed over to Broxton at some point. Howry and Eyre have done their jobs very well for the most part, and it would be nice to not have to worry about the pen this offseason. Maddux + Dempster for Ethier + Broxton seems feasible. We could, of course, package Ethier + Pie + Broxton for Miggy Cabrera..... :-) And follow with Murton + Cedeno + Hill for Miggy Tejada. Now we have fewer unproven players for Dusty to ruin, no pitching whatsoever, and a higher payroll....but we won't be shutout very often :-)
  3. There's something amiss here. Why is it I've come to expect: "Sean Marshall suffers torn cuticle, out indefinately" While I also fear: "Cubs infielder Perez struck by train, will start both games of doubleheader tomorrow."
  4. Maybe I'm crazy, but Sarge Jr's catch was the greatest I've ever seen. EVER.
  5. Call me crazy, but I dont do it. The disparity in numbers over the past few years isn't very big. Let me preface my argument by saying that I believe Aramis will be around .310/.365/.575 during his prime (all lower numbers than his age 26 season). ARods career numbers are .306/.386./.575 and he is two years older. That's .020 points in OPS. Yes he is a better baserunner. Yes he is a better fielder. Is the difference between the two enough to warrant paying AROD money that could be spent elsewhere? What if we kept ARAM and shipped Rich Hill, Jacque Jones and Felix Pie to Philly for Abreu? Then got Carlos Lee in the offseason? ARod's money pays for that. JP Walker Lee Abreu Ramirez Lee Barrett Cedeno Or JP Walker Lee ARod cheap LH LF Barrett Murton Cedeno
  6. Dusty's post game quote prediction: "Wow. Just wow. I've seen a lot of different ways to lose ballgames but....wow. It just seems that nothing goes our way. This one hurts a lot. We'll get ready and get back out there."
  7. The thing is it doesn't matter if Gene Clines gets fired, or Dick Pole or whoever. Dusty will just recommend another guy with the same "old school" philosophy. Someone dumb or subservient enough to not point out Dustys shortcomings
  8. Even being the pessimist I am, I don't believe Dusty will be back. The media has now officially become a "distraction" in the clubhouse and the papers are all calling for Dusty's head. Hendry could easily quelch this by giving Dusty an extension now, but he hasn't. All we hear is "We're going to wait and see". Dusty will not be back unless we make the playoffs. So......
  9. We outhit the Twins today! It's kinda like a victory! Yea!
  10. Wow. I'm pretty sure that lineup is a Neifi/Aramis swap away from being the worst ever put out by a top 5 payroll team.
  11. That was a good wave with Pierre coming up and Hollandsworth throwing.
  12. Is Novoa the Adam Dunn of pitchers? Walk, Strikeout or Homerun.
  13. See 95 million dollars does achieve things. I would love to see where that would put us historically as far as losses compared to payroll.
  14. Why do I know the following conversation has taken place Dusty: Sit down, Big Murt. I understand that you've been taught to hit the ball the other way......and that's a good thing. There's a time for that. But to stay up here with the big boys you NEED to pull the ball and display some power. This team doesn't have a lot of power, so we need it from you. Now get out there and start swinging. Matt: But....er........okay.
  15. And here comes Novoa! People will look back at this series and think yesterday was a pitchers duel.
  16. Dudes, It was obvious that with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, this team showed it's true heart. There is no quit in these guys, dude. The worm turned, and we started finding holes. Prior will start tomorrow and I guarantee that we will lose by less than six runs! Soon Pagan will be back and we will have even MORE speed. With a lineup of Pierre Neifi Bynum Pagan Ramirez Mabry Blanco Cedeno We will have a combo of speed and power heretofore unseen in the big leagues.
  17. Remember when this argument used to be between the Red Sox and the Cubs. Funny how we're the constant.
  18. Matt Murton is 24 with a career OPS of .793. Freddie Bynum is 26 with a career OPS of .674. Matt Murton has walked 36 times and struck out 53. Freddie Bynum has walked 2 times and struck out 25. I'm not sure who deserves the shot at becoming a complete player here, but I have an idea. Perhaps Bynum turns out to be Sammy Sosa. Perhaps Murton turns out to be Kevin Orie. I have a feeling that we're going to end up trading away a future all-star so Freddie Bynum can attempt to save this team.
  19. You know what's REALLY funny about this order? You could completely invert it and have a better lineup. Cedeno Murton Jones Ramirez Nevin Barrett Perez Pierre Maddux
  20. Me too. What's funny, and I probably shouldn't even mention his name in a thread like this, is that Marmol was reminding me of another Cub prospect who was being compared to Pedro Martinez. Marmol looked like a confident and slightly less wiry Juan Cruz. Similar stuff but Cruz always seemed to have a scared look on his face while Marmol had the eye of the tiger. Didn't read the entire thread, huh?
  21. Don't forget Cabrerra. Well, he'll be patrolling LF in Wrigley soon enough. 8)
