  1. Alright, I hope Vargas is done and we can burn through a few of their relievers.
  2. Up 4-0 in the third inning of the first game of a series and you are already thinking sweep, huh? You must be a glass half full type. As for me, I am just hoping they Z doesn't have another epsiode and blow THIS game. Ha! That was the last drop of optimism in my body. Not sure where it came from, I thought I was tapped out after '03.
  3. This is great. Getting into that bullpen now could pay dividends for the entire series. God what I wouldn't give for a sweep.
  4. I think it's really important that we make Vargas work this inning (ARGH) in order to get into the bullpen early in this series.
  5. ARGH! I hate it when we give the pitcher a reprieve after a tough inning. I hope the offense doesn't decide to go to sleep now.
  6. He's working fast for the first time this year. I like it.
  7. I have a feeling Hendry is on the phone a lot right now.
  8. You guys are really okay with a Floyd/Murton platoon in right? Cliff Floyd?? In right?? It may happen, but it's a scary prospect, IMO. Management wants left handed hitters in the lineup against righties, and we don't have any options in the infield, so two of Jones/Floyd/Pie are going to have to see a lot of time in the OF. This is why we hadn't seen much of Murton until Soriano went down, and it's why we won't see much of him when Alfonso returns.
  9. this excludes hill, but i said it in the game thread: marquis (specifically, but lilly to an extent) reminds me of rex grossman early last season. rex threw several interceptable passes when he was doing well, the other team just wasn't catching them. later on, corners weren't dropping the ball. same thing with here. there have been more than a few fly balls that end up on waveland in july and august thrown, and it will catch up to them. hopefully not... Marquis cannot keep this up if his peripherals stay the same. It's going to be like batting practice come July, I just hope our offense is as good by then as I think it can be. P.S. TSB > Funeral, but other than that I liked your first set of albums better. :-)
  10. I don't see how it's going to work with Murton and Soriano in the outfield. That leaves Jones as the only LH threat against righties (I'm not including Izzy, and I don't think Pinellla is either). I don't see Lou being satisfied with this, but the only other options I see are..... Floyd platoons in right (not going to happen) Soriano and Floyd platoon (not going to happen) Pie stays up and platoons with Murton (doesn't seem likely) Murton is packaged in a deal for a big LH RF. (??) This outfield situation is really giving me a headache.
  11. I think if anyone gets moved here it's Murton. It's obvious that Lou doesn't like Soriano + Murton in the outfield against RH pitchers, as it leaves him just one lefty plus Izturis in the lineup. This is the reason we haven't seen much of Murton until Soriano went down, IMO. It's an unfortunate situation, but I really don't see the cubs giving up Jones or Floyd unless they are sure Pie is ready, and I don't see a way for Murton to get many AB's against RHP with Soriano on the team. My guess is we see Matt traded for a LH bench player and a prospect by May 31st.
  12. Not to be a pessimist, but you just know what Barrett's going to do....
  13. Just watching the team's approach at the plate this year gives me comfort. With such a small sample size, I think we're just experiencing the variance that comes with it.
  14. It was the birds. I was telling my girlfriend the cubs would turn things around when they appeared.
  15. every cub will be hurt an inordinate amount of time on every occassion. there are no exceptions. the cubs cannot stay healthy, at least their good players. Yeah, you never see Neifi, Macias or Lenny Harris going down with a major injury. Sometimes I wonder.....
  16. Because these weren't willing participants in a war.
  17. Amen. We HAVE to come out of these next 7 games with at the very worst a 4-3 record, but preferably a 5-2 record (or better). But again, we have Miller and Marquis going four times this week.
  18. Four games this week will be started by Miller or Marquis. This could get a lot uglier.
  19. If he gets on at a .500 clip I could care less.
  20. I had a problem. It kept taking me to the premium upgrade page when I clicked on the non-premium link. Well, it worked, because I gave in and bought the upgrade.
