I really don't think he has a clue where the ball is or where it's going. After going 1-0, he should have just kept the bat on his shoulder and prayed for a walk.

Before this year started, Murton was a career .300 hitter in the major leagues. At 25 years old. Not only is this year's sample size too small, but his ABs have been completely sporadic. He's had no chance to develop a rhythm. The kid will be a very productive OF as soon as he's back in a lineup regularly. Unfortunately for him (and us) he is right-handed. They aren't going to give him regular time even if Jones were to be dealt. He should be traded, imo.... what could we get for a Zambrano/Murton/Marmol package? I can almost guarantee you Hendry is on the phone, and in June we will hear the old "We tried to get something done earlier, but no one wants to make deals in May" line. BTW, count me out for the Milledge deal. He has a nice ceiling, but I put way too much energy into rooting for CPatt to do it for his clone.

my thoughts exactly Wow, guys. I think that was easily the right move. With a runner on 2nd, you pitch to the guy with the smallest chance of getting a base hit. Bay's extra-base power means nothing in that spot.

We already have a RH dominated lineup. We are not going to trade Jones to make room for another righty. Right or wrong, that's the way this organization thinks. I still think Murton will be a star one day. The kid is 25 and has hit .300 from the time he got here. That doesn't happen too often. His natural approach at the plate is fantastic, and I have a feeling the power will come. A lot of guys with his skill set add power around age 26-27. I could easily see some .330/.420/.500 years down the road. That said, the cubs won't use him this year OR in the future unless we add a big LH bat in the infield. 1st, 3rd and C are covered, so we'd have to add a big LH SS or 2B, and I'm at a loss for who that could be.

My guess is that he'll be traded, but it won't happen unless the Braves get what they really want. He definitely won't be moved for Jacque Jones. The Braves might take Pie and Ohman for him. Unlike a lot of people on this site, I actually think Jones is a useful player, and he's probably underrated at the moment. But I don't think he's worth a premium prospect, and I don't think the Cubs will get one for him (unless they're trading with the Pirates).
