  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Edmonds Yeah, I unfortunately live in St. Louis, and it's Jimmy Baseball. You'll get yelled at down here for calling him ballgame. st louis sucks <---------- (See under avatar)

  3. If I recall from Omar's matchup grid, hasn't Payton been pretty damn good against Lilly historically? I'm not surprised he's done well tonight.
  4. This is just nitpicking, but it's Jimmy BASEBALL, not Jimmy Ballgame. It was Teddy Ballgame and the nickname should not be soiled by Edmonds, although I hate him much less than I used to.
  5. anyone thinking they will just fade away and we win the division by 10 games is [expletive]. man, who crapped in your cheerios this morning?
  6. This was exactly my thought. Maybe you can add on $1M/year and get him to go for a 3 yr deal at $32-33M.
  7. I just hope that Edmonds remains productive and Rammy doesn't revert back to his free swinging because he feels like he has to get it done every time with no help behind him in the lineup.
  8. Interesting he's already got more walks in 1/3 of the PAs at AA as he had at A. Fluke or just evolving plate discipline?
  9. Mostly because Dice K had Rich Hill like performance today. He threw 48 pitches and only 1/2 were strikes.
  10. Fred, Fonty's HR is missing from your list. Rest of it looks great as always.
  11. For that matter why does White Sox get games on WGN for that matter? Nobody nationally knows who the White Sox are. Nor do they bring in the ratings. The Cubs do very well by themselves on WGN. WGN can drop White Sox games (to which they could feesibly take the would be WS games, and turn them back into more Cub games on WGN), and just do Cubs games only. Let Comcast or whoever pick up White Sox. Seeing as the target audience for White Sox games, are in Chicago. It would cost WGN a ton of money because of the "superstation" tax. Same reason the Braves aren't on TBS any more. More than a certain number of games on a superstation and they have to pay astronomical fees to televise the extra games.
  12. Yes, please do this. I was able to enjoy Pat and Ron and nearly drove off the road when Rammy hit it.
  13. Opens the door for Penn St. to get a 1st round bye in the BTT. Probably not, but it's out there. After the top 4 (MSU, Purdue, Wisky, OSU), it's a real crapshoot for those middle teams before you get to UM and IU at the bottom. Gun to my head I'd say Illinois, Minnesota, Penn St., Northwestern, Iowa And wow, after the top 3, the Big 10 is going to be really bad this year. I disagree. The top 3 will be darn good, but the next 3 (Ill, Minn, OSU) will all be improved over last season by the end of the year with all the new bodies in the fold. I expect 5 tourney teams.
  14. Yep. Although it can depend on the teams. The US v. Germany in Soccer probably won't have as many flops as any Duke home game in basketball. I played soccer for a long time and enjoy watching it quite a bit during big tournaments. I do thnk that it will never become mainstream in the US simply for the flopping factor. I mean, there's no reason for anybody to be writhing around in pain on the ground, get carried off on a stretcher and be back out on the field playing full bore 5 minutes later. It's just dumb. If that was eliminated, I think soccer would garner a lot more support and fans in the US.
  15. News down here yesterday after he got looked at by Andrews wasthat no additional surgery was needed and just a little backing off on the rehab would be the way to go right now. Sounds like the new target date for a return is late August/early September.
  16. I'm a moron and never learned how to do those codes Yeah I have no idea how to do them. I jsut copy/paste into the code tags off of baseball reference.com and it works. I think it's much easier now. All you have to do is paste your data in and then highlight and click the code button above the text box. At least I think that works. Of course, I just figured out how to put in an image today, so what do I know.
  17. I think it was Kurkjian on BB Tonight when the play happened and he said he looked up the ground rules and they say the ball has to go over the yellow line to be a home run. The ball ended up back in play so there's no way it went over the line/pad. Clearly not a home run and a good ruling by the umps.
  18. How does this guy throw nothing but sliders that really don't look all that nasty and nobody can hit them? Weird.
  19. See the previous post where it was noted he threw 19 sliders in the 1st inning. That is just ridiculous.
  20. Is there anywhere you can buy them yet?
  21. I think the 14 division titles say a lot more about a manager than winning the WS any nmber of times. There is so much variability when you get to the playoffs, running into a hot team, having a guy or 2 get hurt, that I think it's less indicative of a manager's abilities than continued regular season success. In either case, you need a bunch of good players to win. Some of his best guys just didn't perform in the playoffs. He does seem to be getting a little senile in his old age though.
