  1. Good to see Demp get thru that inning reasonably efficiently. He may get us thru 6 if he can avoid a huge PC next inning.
  2. Theriot hits a nice ball into RF. Soriano's running all the way. Upton bobbles the ball. Quade throws up the stop sign and Soriano ran right through it. Upton throws the ball home before Soriano gets there. Soriano slides head-first and it looks like Snyder dropped the ball or Soriano knocked the ball out of Snyder's hands. Uuummm, no. Upton threw to 2nd and when Sori saw him do that he took off for home. Ojeda threw home and Sori knocked the ball out of Snyder's glove as he slid, making him safe.
  3. Wisconsin: Illinois' largest state park.
  4. That brings up an interesting question. Do you bring Guzman back as a reliever, at least for 2008-2009? He was having serious trouble getting past 85-90 pitches before he got hurt, and he needs to make the team next year. I'd bring him out of the bullpen because that gives him the best shot to establish himself in the major leagues for a while, and then if he's still healthy re-evaluate before 2010. I like that idea, because he'll be able to air it out when he pitches to get completely comfortable again. Only fear I have is that he's good and Lou decides to start using him like he does Marmol.
  5. He was short and chubby, but he could go get it. Maybe not the best example, but he was well above avg. in CF.
  6. Or it could just be the fact that he's, you know, in his late 30's. And had several concussions. I've been told they do wonders for the hand/eye coordination. I use to make fun of him, but secretly I've always admired his skills on the baseball field. He's probably the best defensive CF in the last 25 years. Are you kidding me??????!!!! He is without question the most overrated defensive CF probably to ever play the game. He made his entire career out of making routine flay balls look like amazing catches. Yeah, he was good at making the diving catch, but if you judge the ball correctly off the bat and take the correct line on it (like Andrew Jones) you have to dive a lot less often. Don't let your biases cloud your judgment. He's not. He's completely accurate in saying Edmonds made a whole lot of more difficult than average catches look like you had to be a superhero to make them. However, he was in fact a very good CF, but not even close to the best of the last 25 years. Griffey Jones Hunter Puckett Lofton Just to name a few that were as good or better than him on an every day basis.
  7. You just know that if Pie was playing and a lefty was on the mound he would get a PH here, just as Reed should get one with a righty on the mound. Lou really pisses me off with his overmanaging in some cases and just letting stuff go in others. Dumb.
  8. http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hamiljo03.shtml Still, pitching has always been the problem for them. I guess they didnt know hed get that good. Hopfully, today is the begining of his downfall and it wont matter. Can you imagine if their rotation consisted of: C. Young Volquez Danks Milwood Obviously their numbers wouldn't have looked as good in that park, but still. Young is great in the cow pasture that the Pads play in, but his flyball tendency makes me think he probably would only be a serviceable 5th guy pitching in Arlington 1/2 his starts.
  9. Other than that Cedeno punk who's only hitting .380 ish, no. Do I really have to put every last ounce of sarcasm in green font? Well, it is a game thread where everybody tends to be overly emotional, so maybe. I wasn't sure if you were serious or not. Lay it on a little thicker, man.
  10. Other than that Cedeno punk who's only hitting .380 ish, no.
  11. Yeah, this. And seriously, how many people go to the draft? It can't be that many, it's at Radio City Music Hall. I can't magine there's more than a couple thousand in there. And also, it definitely shouldn't be in a city that DOESN'T HAVE A FREAKIN' TEAM BECAUSE NOBODY GOES TO THE GAMES.
  12. Homan is gone from IU and I've also heard that DeAndre "The Giant" Thomas is gone as well. I think that drops them to 3 scholarship players with one of them being a former walk on.
  13. I've never tried that. Have you had any success doing it? Done it a few times. Works good because you usually end up sitting in the visiting team's comp tickets they give back. Mostly sections 155 and 156 but way towards the back. Not the greatest seats: but for $11 a pair they kick ass. What time would you need to be down there to get a shot at a couple of seats?
  14. Bold prediction: St Louis signs him and finds their next Edmonds, without the three-steps-in-the-wrong-direction-followed-by-spectacular-looking-diving-catches-on-routine-flys that the Cards fans used to love. While I'm normally on board with Cards predictions like this, they already have 14 overperforming OF on their roster.
  15. That's just a silly question. Of course it'll be the Cards, he'll take over for Izzy next year and go on to save 300 games as a Cardinal with an ERA around 2.
  16. What I don't get is why the Bears are not considered "contenders" and yet Minnesota is? Both should have outstanding Defenses (if anybody remembers, the Bears have the CORE OF THEIR DEFENSE back again. Even tho they struggled under Babich the 1st yr, I expect major improvement in yr 2.). Both have questionable offense. Minnesota has basically a RB, and nothing else. Berrian won't be effective, as long as Jackson can't complete a pass over 10 yrds. Even tho he isn't great, but I take my chances on Grossman and his recievers over Jackson and his recievers. There is not one team in the NFC North, I fear. In fact, my bold predeiction will be...the Bears winning the division by two games. This is not true. The biggest difference between the 2 teams is that Minnesota has a good, solid, proven O-line, something that remains a big question mark for the Bears. They will be able to run the ball and just hope Jackson can be "good enough" to get them some wins.
  17. My only hope for this series is that the Cards continue their Cub-like suckage against lefties. Outside of that, I expect many losses this weekend simply because I'm going to 2 of the games.
  18. I've got loge boxes for Friday and bleachers for Sunday. Hopefully I'll get to see at least one win with OPR and Marqueef going those days. Not that Lilly is much better right now.
  19. Feel free to look up the definitions of "part-time" and "mostly." My post was perfectly accurate. Eh, I think he's got you there. Part time to me sounds more like he played SS 1/4-1/3 of the time, not almost half. But your point about arm strength is dead on and he should never be at SS over Ronny when they're in ther together.
  20. I think Yost not taking out Gallardo is more of a product of not going to the pen, TOO EARLY, instead of taking Gallardo out too early. One way or the other, I believe the 6th will be Gallardo's last innings. And here's to the Brewers bringing Turnbow in.......... Yost. That and no one was warming up so some halfway cold pitcher after warmup pitches was going to have to just run out there. If there's an injury, the guy coming in gets as much time as he wants to warm up.
  21. It actually was pretty good, but then he went and ruined it by doing a horrendous Harry caray impression. The Scully was really good though. More good Brewers defense.
  22. Actually, I saw a reliable report that in his AA start last week he was touching 90 on a few pitches. But I do enjoy seeing him get rocked by a AAA team.
  23. He looked a like he had a little Corey Patterson reaction to that K. Unfortunate he's been screwed around the way he has. I think he could still be a good player, especially for a team that has a guy like Jeff Kent in the middle infield to make up for the lack of power.
  24. Pie doesn't have a hit tonight, but you can just tell he's seeing pitches better and has a much better approach than 2 weeks ago. And there's a walk.
  25. It's really not as bad as it sounds. They used to play a few less games in April and 17 wins out of 26 games is a pretty high win %.
