  1. Urgh. Bottom line is you're underestimating them a little, but they are playing way, way over their heads, and I don't expect it to continue with Pujols and Wainwright on the DL.
  2. more so, Cedeno doesn't hit lefties very well at all Well that on top of it, but I thought it was dumb to waste him since Hoff has a decent chance against a lefty anyway.
  3. Doesn't Hoff hit lefties reasonably well anyway?
  4. because no one cares about stats like that I personally think it's an important stat. Cubs batting .208 in that situation. What if the Cubs get a bases clearing double with one out, then the next two guys make outs? It doesn't really matter when you score runs. If they were .208 overall with RISP I'd be concerned It depends on the situation. Usually later in the game, 2 out hits with RISP are much more important. Maybe a more important stat would be RISP/2 outs inning 7+. and when its late and close Exactly. Occasionally, RISP/2 outs in late innings could show how clutch certain teams are (although the Cubs have been very good in the late innings). I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs RISP/2 outs inning 7+ is much higher. Flame in 5..4..3..2..
  5. People don't bring it up because it's not worth talking about. It's like arguing with a teenager. Oh, wait. It's not worth talking about. It's as noteworthy of the avg. with RISP and 0 or 1 out. The only number that matters is their overall numbers with RISP and that's not even all that important with a team that gets on base as much as this one does. The numbers will eventually get to where they should be. Anything different than that is a statistical anomaly typically.
  6. If that's what you want to believe then go ahead. But teams don't put in a lot of money into the draft for nothing. And the draft is still a crapshoot. There been great picks early (Arod/Chipper, etc, etc) and great picks late (Piazza). There been plenty of "highly thought of players" draft high, who busted. So just because they were "once highly thought of" doesn't mean anything. With that said, guys like Luis Gonzalez (4th rd/88 draft), Steve Finley (11th rd/86 draft), Edgar Martinez, all developed late in their careers. So as much moaning and groaning we can have over players like Ryan Ludwick having, in essence, a career yr, it could also means he might finally be putting it together. Personally, I'm hoping it's a career yr, and he struggles---like his teammates---without Pujols. Ofcourse it's a crapshoot. But that doesn't change my point that these players were highly thought of, and not just coming out of nowhere. Ludwick was highly thought of, disappeared for 5 or 6 years, and now is very much coming out of nowhere. You don't suddenly have the light click on at 29. I agree with you for the most part. However, in Ludwick's case, he's lost several seasons to injury and has effectively played 2-3 seasons less worht of games than most his age. Still very odd and would only happen to the Cards, but not completely unexplainable.
  7. I don't see Theriot moving anywhere else but 2 in the lineup if he's in there. IIIRC, DeRo was there because Riot had the day off. I can see that lineup but with those 2 switched.
  8. Raisin's post kind of makes it sound that way, but the fact that it also says he should have gone in the 1st ten rounds makes me think somebody sees a little more than loogy potential in him.
  9. If he wants to, he could throw Edmonds over there. He's played a little 1B in the past. Though that would still give you a crappy matchup against either him or Reed, depending on who's pitching.
  10. What's Guyer's projection look like? Is he somebody to get excited about?
  11. So nice to see the stealing happening to somebody else.
  12. Awful quiet in here tonight. Cubs get lucky, Maddux pops the bunt to Ramirez.
  13. I think he may get the complete game in that many the way things are going right now.
  14. There was one at 89. That makes me feel a little better. Make that 2 in a row at 89.
  15. He's gotta be hurt. There's no way he's throwing this slow if he's not.
  16. I would think sooner than that if he's already being considered for a rehab. That can only be a 30 day deal, so they'll have to bring him up or send him to Iowa sometime in July.
  17. The HD ad with the clips was kinda cool. Unfortunately, I don't get the game in HD. BOOOOOOOOOO.
  18. Interesting number I heard about Lohse before the season started. In 06 and 07 he had somewhere around a 1.62 ERA in games he won and a 10.20 ERA in games he lost. Odd that there was no middle ground there and he was either really bad or really god (like he was against the Cubs a couple times).
  19. Way to go over there and troll. Good work.
  20. So you're saying that they will win 14-1 then? Not a chance. The great Todd Wellemeyer is on the mound tonight. I doubt the Nats score and they may not even get a hit. Plus the Cards offense will suffer a little. I'd put the number somewhere around 7 or 8-0.
  21. Pujols not in the lineup tonight after the calf tightness last night. Ankiel also out and not available due to an infection in his knee from diving for that catch the other night.
  22. Double steal and crappy defense by the Nats.
