  1. I think there are people my age or older who really love horse racing/Triple Crown because of how good it was back in the 70s. In my life men's tennis, heavyweight boxing, Indianapolis 500 and Triple Crown horse racing have been very huge, even bigger than the big 3 at times. There are still many of us in our late 40s and older who are nostalgic about the Triple Crown because of horses like Secretariat and how great it was to watch him 40 yrs ago.
  2. I want him to play everyday this season so he can prove to the meatballs that he is not an everyday player.
  3. What's the going rate for the negotiating rights to a player like Parise? I would think that Parise would get out on the market, he is the most coveted forward and it would make sense for him to not sign. However, I wouldn't mind if the Wings threw a 5th rounder at New Jersey and took a run at him for a couple of weeks before free agency.
  4. I read somewhere that there are probably going to be more teams trading for the bargaining rights to certain players this year than in years past. Not sure what the reasoning was for this.
  5. I do not think that much will happen until the draft.
  6. I tell all the Cardinal fans I know that the umpires screw them because of their arrogant "smartest fans in baseball" crap
  7. yes it was.
  8. I was hoping he'd wait until after Suter signed somewhere other than Detroit. I don't think the Wings need Suter or any other top flight dman as much as they could use another top 6 forward. I don't think Ken Holland sees it my way though.
  9. all signs point to Lidstrom retiring tomorrow. This makes me very sad.
  10. I made a bet a couple of weeks ago that the Cubs would be no hit this season. I really like my chances of winning.
  11. could be, but i mean...it takes a special group of idiots to be haunted as badly as they are by the playoffs. they turned chelsea dagger into a thing more than the blackhawks themselves did. kesler, burrows, bieksa, lapierre, luongo...these guys all have meltdowns. they all do dumb stuff. seems like more of a character issue that would've come out one way or another, and the blackhawks just happened to be there (repeatedly) when it manifested. I think Alain Vigneault is a large part of the problem also. I cannot believe that they could just get a bunch of dumb players, I think some of the stupidity has to be from the bench.
  12. Maybe the rest of the team, but Luongo was already there.
  13. couple of thoughts on this line of discussion. 1. almost every Stanley Cup winning team gets some breaks along the way 2. It doesn't make a difference if Vancouver were known as mental midgets in 10 or not...that is what they were 3. I think Detroit actually outplayed SJ in 10, but there was some awful questionable penalties/dives that gave SJ 5 on 3 for 2 game winning goals 4. I do not think Drew is underscoring that the Hawks were the best team in 10...that is really without question. I do think Detroit would have given them a much better series than SJ though.
  14. Though the Rangers were not in the same class as Phoenix, their constant complaining about officiating while playing on the edge was getting tiresome.
  15. Back in the 80s I read Bill James Baseball Abstract religiously every year. Of course that was just the beginning and many of his stats were seriously flawed. I used to figure out Secondary Average for players during the season. I have always been the first to question conventional wisdom, so James really drew me in. But anyone who could statistically say at the time that Steve Garvey sucked was really going to win me over.
  16. The 4-1 final shows basically how one sided this series was, yet Coyote fans seem to think that one legal hit was why they lost. That hit had absolutely nothing to do with the game winning goal, let alone the rest of the series where they had their butts handed to them and spent large amounts of time gooning it up themselves.
  17. Glad to see Phoenix and their fan reinforce my dislike for them. Sore Losers.
  18. It absolutely would not be stupid. Freaking out about it would be though. Who's freaking out? The Cubs have treated number retirement as a team hall of fame. I love Kerry, but he doesn't belong in that group. Time for a poll
  19. Harold Baines. He's even got a statue at US Cellular. I dont want to derail the Kerry Wood thread but I looked up Baines and holy crap he was waaaaaayyyy over-rated.
  20. Why would that matter at all? Well I guess we are the lovable losers.
  21. So I have read through a lot of this stuff today and really do not understand what this really has to do with the Cubs. I understand that Tom's money is tied with Joe's money and blah blah, but this seems to be an issue that Joe Ricketts is running with. Joe has really not been that personally invested in what the Cubs are doing or so it seems. I understand that Tom's politics seem to mirror Joe's, but still Tom is not tied to this. I may have my head in the sand I guess, but there really seems to be nothing to this issue as it is related to the Cubs.
  22. I love Kerry Wood, but if they retire his number would he be the worst player in MLB history to have his number retired?
  23. Seems almost as if you have a premonition about this or something. Oh, okay, there we go Well played. My guess is Vinestal has not met the political thread and the political banter that goes on there
  24. I think the Sox owner probably likes it even more.
  25. I would get a T-shirt in a heartbeat if I lived in Philly
