  1. I am not making this comparison, but I often get frustrated when Cardinal fans have David Freese on his way to Cooperstown. But I think there is enough evidence that Freese is a quality 3rd baseman if he can stay healthy. Point being is that there is quality major league potential out of late bloomers if a team is willing to give them a shot. Of course there is a big difference between a good defensive 3rd baseman and a first baseman. Michael Morse is another example. Not sure LaHair will be as good as these guys, but there is certainly reason to believe he could be a productive player for several years. Too bad he will be blocking someone we are hoping will be a very good player in the near future.
  2. No kidding. This thread should be locked until there is actual news to be excited about.
  3. Don't half the teams in the league do the stupid white out thing? Tampa and Florida tried it. Pittsburgh as well. I think Calgary and Winnipeg were the first NHL teams to do it. Calgary did the C of Red while the Jets did the White Out. It started in some playoff series in the 80s if I remember correctly
  4. Has it been confirmed that the Coyotes are still going to go through with the series after learning of this news? Jesse Rogers is working on that. So they are doing the white-out thing. Two things. It's gonna look stupid with all those red Hawks jerseys there. But won't the Hawks be wearing the road white unis? By the way this day couldn't be moving any slower. I have always thought it was a big slap in the face of Winnipeg fans that the Coyotes did the white out.
  5. Nashville fans are idiots. Weber knew he was going to try to freeze the puck and therefore knew someone was probably going to blast him considering it was the last few seconds. What Zetterberg did is rarely even going to be called in the last minute or so of a game. Zetterberg did not fully charge him. He turned sideways to make sure he hit him but also to position himself to make a play on the puck. Like I said, I really don't mind but when some Pred gets Kornwalled next game or Weber gets 3 fighting majors I don't want to hear one peep out of Preds fans.
  6. maybe she was just trying to get a friend of hers a job
  7. As a Wings fan I was hoping he would either have had the book thrown at him or no suspension at all. I think 1 game would have been the worst case for the Wings. As a NHL fan, it again goes to show that all their talk goes out the window at playoff time....as usual. Especially if a star player is involved. edit...so on a Wings board the topic of conversation has turned to "This is why Bertuzzi crippled Steve Moore, if the NHL would have done their job Bertuzzi would not have had to do what he did" #-o
  8. I think the stupid NBA draft eligibility rules have a lot more to do with ruining BB than Cal.
  9. Zetterburg is okay. 1 game if anything. Damage done trumps intent. When comparing to Keith, Sedin is a girl and is still out.
  10. I think this case is going to be tough for Shanahan. Suspending Weber for more then a game would really hamstring the Preds. If he was to do that I could imagine the outcry of those calling him a Wings homer. However, if the NHL is really serious about cleaning this kind of stuff up, suspending star players for multiple games in the playoffs would send a huge message. I think he is going to get a game. Just my gut reaction to how the NHL has handled playoff suspensions in the past. In the past this would not have even gotten a suspension, so a game with the new hypersensitive rules seems right.
  11. you could also say that the Cubs have gotten better starting pitching than most people would have expected and they are still 1-5. How bad could it become if the starters regress?
  12. Yeah I agree with that. Though I didn't hate the Blues like I do the Canucks. Maybe I was just too young and didn't hate Brett because his name was Hull. The Blues were rather easy to dislike, at least to this Wings fan. I don't think the Hawks were good enough through those years that most of their fans really gave a crap. I think I just focused my hate on the Wings. The Wings had several players who were easy to dislike back then also. I think part of their current problem is that they don't have enough guys who really get under the other teams skin.
  13. Yeah I agree with that. Though I didn't hate the Blues like I do the Canucks. Maybe I was just too young and didn't hate Brett because his name was Hull. 14. Why does my brain insist that Duane Kuiper has some tie to the Cubs somehow? Harry used to bring up Duane Kuiper's lone career HR at least 4 times a year.
  15. He'll include himself in a three team deal. Dang it, I spit coffee on my computer screen.
  16. I really do not like the Western Conference at all. Not one team is sticking out to me as much as the Pens, Flyers and Bruins are in the East.
  17. Okay...put 3 mins of thought into this. Canucks over Kings in 6...I want to pick the Kings, but can't Blues over Sharks in 7...Since the Sharks will not be choking, I wonder if they will actually play well Hawks over Coyotes in 7....I am assuming Toews comes back sometime Preds over Wings in 6....Wings have been plain flat since all their players have been healthy Rangers over Sens in 6....Sens can score Boston over Caps in 7...Caps in similar spot as Sharks. Devils over Panthers in 5...I think the Devils have a good shot of making the ECF Pens over Flyers in 6...I really like the Pens to go all the way Canucks over Hawks in 7...this would be great for the 3rd straight year Preds over the Blues in 7...would be a great series no one would watch Devils over the Rangers in 6 Pens over the Bruins in 5 Canucks over the Preds Pens over the Devils Pens
  18. I do not have CNBC...that sucks
  19. I think the Hawks/Coyotes series is really hard to pick. Will Toews be back? Will Phoenix's hot finish carry over? I think if all things remain the same I would pick the Coyotes, but Toews returning would be huge for the Hawks.
  20. As a Wings fan I am kind of glad. I would have preferred playing the Sharks out of all the teams that we could have played, but that would have needed some work for them to be 3rd. I think I would just as soon play the Preds than the Coyotes or Kings. At least the games at Nashville will have a decent starting time.
  21. That's actually a surprisingly prudent move that I'd never expect him to make. Dude has a reverse platoon split. Granted, it's only 150 AB vs lefties, but Dusty would run out Mike Remlinger like he was a loogy. I don't follow Dusty and the Reds that much. I do understand that Heisey has not hit lefties that well. But, I thought Dusty has been reluctant to play Heisey the last couple of years. I can see why a fan may already be getting is dander up over starting Ludwig on opening day. Just what I know from history, I would guess that Dusty will give Ludwig at least 100+ more abs than he should get over Heisey.
  22. I think a series between the Rangers and the Blues would be awesome, well except for the obnoxious NY love.
  23. I think the Blues are very beatable in the playoffs. I also think any team that has to play them in a series will be completely wore out if they do manage to beat them.
  24. anything short of a World Series Championship within 5-6 yrs will not bode well for his public perception though. Truth is he will probably have more expectations than Hendry with a shorter leash.
  25. right now I have a hard time seeing the Red Wings being anything but a one and done. If it wasn't for their really good first half I don't think the Wings would be making the playoffs. I think the Hawks would beat them in 5 or 6. Preds may sweep them.
