  1. oops I thought I was erasing my original post and posting something different.
  2. I do not get the upside of automatic icing. What percentage of plays would be called back? This is completely subjective, but it seems that there is enough plays where the icing team gets to the puck first that it adds good action to the game. Is there a lot of injuries due to the current icing rules? Personally I think the best thing the NHL could do to add a lot of action to the game is to have icing on the PP. I think this would make the PP much more effective. Which would lead to teams committing less penalties, which would lead to a more open style of play. Just my opinion.
  3. it bothers me that supposedly all the big hurdles have been crossed and they are getting held up on supposedly minor issues.
  4. I have heard this same thing several times and all I can ask is WTF? So teams are out there not giving it their all because if OSU wins it doesn't matter? I really do not think your logic makes any sense. I think it is more possible that OSU may have crumbled under the pressure of being undefeated if it really mattered.
  5. Let me start by saying that I do not follow the NFL that much. I was at a party this afternoon where there was a lot of talk of Lovie being fired. Not that anyone was saying that he should have been retained, there was a couple of guys who were saying that he was handicapped by Angelo's poor drafting. I am somewhat aware of the Bears lack of production from early round draft picks. My question is this, is this all on the GM making poor decisions on who to draft? or is there some responsibility on the coaching staff to develop young players to become NFL players? I understand that the NFL is not the MLB and first rounders should hit no matter what, but when evaluating Lovie, do all the failed draft picks have to be somewhat his responsibility also?
  6. I think for not having any NFL quality QBs, WRs, RBs, and DBs, Michigan did kind of well for themselves this year. They were over-rated at the beginning of the season because of how they over-achieved last season. Except for Alabama they were in every game this season(I think) against a quality schedule. The arrow seems to be pointing the right direction for them. I think overall the B1G is probably doing about as well as anyone could have hoped. I think they are 2-4 now, with Purdue the only team that looked like they didn't even belong on the field. Both Michigan and Minnesota were right there and could have won. Of course MSU could have lost. I am not sure what B1G fans were hoping for, but as long as Wisconsin at least looks presentable, I would consider it at least a push. That with 2 of their top 5 teams not even participating.
  7. I'm with you on this one. This team is younger and cheaper and the farm has way flippin' more talent than what Jim Hendry rolled out in April of 2011. Maybe this time the Tribune won't fire Dallas Green before the talent makes it to the majors. I'm jacked up on the direction and I can't wait to see it play out over the next couple seasons. Didn't Green resign? He resigned, but I think he was going to be fired. He didn't get along well with the Tribune management team.
  8. I have heard mid January. I think that is also when they got it done in 95
  9. This actually sounds like a legitimate attempt to get a deal done. Up to this point it all has felt like the offers were more about trying to win in the court of public opinion, not actually trying to get something accomplished. It is really shameful that this has been drawn out like this.
  10. The Fergie Jenkins fan is upset that Sosa was rumored to be on drugs. =D>
  11. 1989. National Champion, Michigan. Another in the Final Four, Illinois. Indiana and Iowa were both Top Ten teams most of the year. I think Iowa, Illinois and Michigan all had at least 3 future first round NBA picks on their teams. I don't remember but I am sure that MSU, Purdue, OSU, Wisconsin and Minnesota were probably good also. I think a couple of teams did not make the tourney because of how good the Big Ten was at the top. I think there was a full double round robin at the time and it was hard to get wins against the top 4 teams. So the middle schools probably had at least 6 losses before playing each other. It was almost impossible to make the tourney at the time with a losing conference record.
  12. But Gordie was a full time 2 way player. I talk to my mom about that often. Kidding aside, I think Lockbaum was a case where the hype for a guy was much higher then it should have been because of something silly. He played both ways. Whatever, he probably could not have started one way on a good division 1 team. Because of the hype over this, he got top 5 in Heisman back to back years. If you look over the years there are plenty of players who got top 5 Heisman consideration more for silly subjective reasons than actual quality. Heck how many times has a okay QB from a National Title contender won? or best player from an undefeated ND team?
  13. When you're a GM with an open checkbook and a weak division, it's pretty easy to wing it. Job description for 2013: win in 2013. Job description for 2014: worry about in in 2014. ???
  14. I think back in the 90s the elite NBA players basically quit the union and formed a different union. Or something of that nature. I do not remember the details, but I do remember it was basically because the owners were trying to influence the rank and file. So the star players just did a counter move. I think one thing that Fehr understands well is that he doesn't need everyone, he just needs the top guys who have probably been paid well enough to be able to hold out longer. I remember saying a couple of years ago when Fehr was hired that this was not going to go well for the fans.
  15. Dave Hart is announcing at 2:30 today that he's happy with Tennessee being nationally irrelevant for 3-5 more years. Hard to be nationally relevant when you're getting turned down left and right (including by one guy who would rather coach at Louisville). This whole thing with Tennessee reminds me of Illinois...which is not good
  16. There's a lot more 3rd and 4th line guys than the Crosby's (bitch) and Toews' of the world. If the rank and file players become unified and want to make a deal things can go south really quick for the players which will be to the detriment of all of them most likely. The top players still do not have to play. That is why they have all the power in the union as well
  17. I was looking at Floyd's production and was surprised that it was not as bad as the White Sox fan perception makes it out to be. I am not advocating trading anything for him, just saying he is a quality end of rotation starter.
  18. Who cares if the 4th liners are getting antsy. I feel bad for them and all but it is not like they could go ahead and play with a bunch of 4th liners. As long as the top players are holding out for more, everyone will have to hold out. I think that is why the top players wanted Fehr, he understands that very well.
  19. I am against NIU being in the Orange Bowl. However, I do not feel bad for the BCS. It was because they did not take other non AQ schools in the past who were deserving that the current rules were put into place. Of course the real problem is rankings. Just because a team has 0 or 1 lose does not mean they should be ranked in the Top 25. Just about every person with a vote makes that mistake
  20. nothing against NIU, but I would just assume they could take another SEC school. Which is hard for me to say
  21. I think the reality of this season in CFB is that there really is not any elite teams. Because of scheduling quirks several SEC schools have really good records, but that has more to do with the lack of quality teams at the back end of the SEC. I don't think anyone is thinking about comparing any SEC team this year with either Alabama or LSU last season. Is ND great, probably not, but they were good/lucky enough to win all their games. Heck Alabama probably got "lucky" yesterday. Is that any different than ND getting lucky against Stanford? I think Alabama is going to win, but I don't think they are substantially better than ND. No matter what anyone believes, there is no question that ND belongs in the title game with the current system. I think there could be an argument made that Oregon deserves to get in instead of Alabama. I am not saying it is a good argument but it could be made.
  22. They would be ranked higher if they were eligible. They had 3 common opponents as ND and played them about the same as ND. They lack a signature win like Stanford. But I think OSU would most certainly be in the Title Game mix if they were eligible. In the only poll they're eligible for, they're 4th, and their computer average (if it counted) is 10th. They wouldn't be in the NC game. I am assuming that they lose votes because they are ineligible. Also were they 10th before or after yesterday? and if they were eligible they would have a shot at improving their computer rankings with a game against Nebraska. I am not saying they would be in, but I think they would be more in the mix than you may be assuming. Either way, it's moot, so I am not going to argue too much about this.
  23. Being undefeated and #1 is a tough gig, I might need a moment here. Okay, I'm good. :good: Get back to us if you can get to 29 wins in a row to start the year. IU has done that twice; finishing the deal once. None of us were alive. Congrats though. I'm sorry Fred was alive. My name's not Fred
  24. They would be ranked higher if they were eligible. They had 3 common opponents as ND and played them about the same as ND. They lack a signature win like Stanford. But I think OSU would most certainly be in the Title Game mix if they were eligible.
