  1. The terrible ice made a game 7 hard to watch.
  2. Kane needs to be more careful about who he parties with. He is never going to be able to be just one of the guys out partying.
  3. I think the White Sox should be sellers, I am not sure Kenny Williams really sees it that way
  4. I really dislike Phoenix, mostly because the NHL had a chance to move them to a place that deserves hockey but didn't. Beyond them I really do not like or dislike any of the other remaining teams that much. I guess I am cheering for Washington in the East.
  5. Zambrano was kind of the after thought pitching prospect. Remembering how bright the Cub future looked in 2002/03 is kind of depressing now.
  6. I was a young teen during the Harry/Jimmy days with the White Sox. That was must see TV at the time.
  7. honestly I would think that Hawks fans would be cheering for the Canucks. I would think you would have much rather faced them than the Preds in round 2 if you make it.
  8. not going to lie, I am going to miss the Edmonton/Calgary circa 1986 series that the Flyers/Pens just played
  9. Toews is a very effective player even if he is not scoring. I am not sure the same could be said for Stamkos or Malkin. I think Crosby has developed into a very good two way player who I would probably take over Toews. I cannot think of any other forward who should even be in the discussion. If I had a glut of forwards and was shy on some dmen I may trade Toews for a couple of dmen around the league, but that would be a really short list also.
  10. I am glad it was on Fox. I watched the last several innings without having to listen to Hawkaroo.
  11. I just think the team should play short a roster spot when a player is suspended. The more I think about this the more I like it. Teams would think twice before adding a Raffi Torres type of player. Since the Coyotes will not really miss Torres play they will be punished to a certain degree by having to play short a player. It also will get the teams themselves on board in cleaning up this stupidity.
  12. after my initial being upset about losing, I am glad the Wings lost rather easily in the first round. I think the front office needed to be shown that they are not that good. They need at least one more top 6 forward and have for several years. It became painfully obvious down the stretch and in the playoffs. They need to let Holmstrom go. I think they probably need to not resign Cleary either. Stuart is gone and Lidstrom probably needs to go ahead and retire. They need a faster player to with Datsyuk and Franzen on the top line. Also, some youth/grit infused on the 4th line. They probably do not need any dmen even if both Stuart and Lidstrom are gone. Smith is ready and if they really need one, they could probably pick up someone at the deadline. A FA dman will probably be overpaid.
  13. this is just a silly statement on about 92 levels
  14. I was talking to a friend today and he suggested that if a player is suspended the team ought to lose his roster spot for the number of games he is suspended. Put some responsibility on the team to help police the stupidity. I cannot think of a huge downside to this unless it was a really long suspension.
  15. I wasn't saying he should have, just that I thought he would. I had a feeling that the NHL powers to be were thinking that player discipline was getting away from them. I was thinking that they would put the hammer down for all of Saturdays antics and such. I think they are going to cringe but I think they are going to hammer the Pens also.
  16. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN197306080.shtml I am pretty sure it was this game. Cubs won. It was against he Reds. Rick Monday hit a HR. I am sure it was probably on a Saturday in June.
  17. he turtled because he had just gotten drilled in the face. when someone is already raining blows down on you, there really isn't time to throw off the gloves and turn it into a fair fight. Like I said I went back and watched...I may be wrong
  18. I went back and watched this several times and it really looks like Boyle had plenty of time to respond but lowered his hands and turtled when Carkner kept going. I may be wrong, but I hardly feel bad for him after his antics in game 1. However, I feel rather stupid in agreeing with Milbury about the punishments:) BTW, I am not saying that the NHL doesn't need to change the culture of this crap, but this is the logical outcome if you are going to turn a blind eye to stupidity. Change the culture and no one would feel the need of having a player like Carkner.
  19. I thought it was called correctly. Dubinsky was clearly a 3rd man in, which is a game misconduct. Carkner kept throwing punches after Boyle turtled, also a game misconduct. Carkner got the only fighting major and Dubinsky and Carkner got matching minors. Nothing really laughable about how it was called. I'm not sure how you can be a third man in when there wasn't a second man in. Dubinsky got penalized for preventing Boyle from getting a concussion and it's stupid. MacLean dressed Carkner just to have him assault Boyle, which is stupid. There is zero reason that should've been called the way it was. Carkner should be done for the playoffs. For one, he sucks and has no use to a roster except to do what he did; secondly what he did was just completely detestable. Hagelin should also get a game, but nothing more IMO. Anyway, going to game 4 in LA and I literally (correctly using literally) could not be more excited. As I mentioned in my other post, if the NHL is going to let players clean things up this is going to be the outcome. Boyle should not have turtled.
  20. Not taking sides but I think Shaw is going to be suspended for a game.
  21. I think Carkner went overboard. Something probably needed to be done, but what he did to Boyle was waaaaaaaay worse than that Boyle did to Karlsson in Game 1. Regardless, I will now be adding this to the list of series I am watching closely. Which I think is now all except NJ-FLA and BOS-WSH. Those two just aren't holding my interest. Yet. The problem with this whole letting players clean up the dirty plays is that it will always escalate. Of course any real old timey fan would probably say that Boyle should have dropped his gloves and not turtled. To me that is why I had no problem them giving Dubinsky a 3rd man in game misconduct. Boyle knew it was coming and deserved if NHL players want to play by "the code of whatever" and he turtled. He should have dropped his gloves, grabbed and held on to Carkner's right arm and moved on. To his credit though his actions did get The Rangers a 5 min PP. If fans and players want to keep this code this is what is going to happen. If not then the NHL needed to suspend Boyle for what he did to Karlsson....which way do you want it?
  22. Honestly I think it is up to the Referee. I am not sure if there is a set guideline. I do know that for along time it used to be 4 on 4 most of the time. Edmonton in the 80s would intentionally do things to get matching penalties because they were so sick 4 on 4, so many refs started to just leave it 5 on 5. Or the NHL told refs to. Anyway 10 yrs ago when scoring was way down one thing that the NHL decided to pressure Refs into calling more 4 on 4s.
