  1. You're missing the point. The SEC stuff I'm talking about only applies to teams within that conference. Everyone knows Ohio State and their weak-ass B1G schedule gives them advantages over contenders from better leagues. OK, but how is what the SEC does giving an unfair advantage that other teams do not enjoy? Look at the schedules of the SEC teams that went to the title games during the run. Those were not cakewalk schedules by any stretch of the imagination. And again Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame, etc could have beaten the SEC teams on the field but did not. Most times it wasn't close.
  2. And again, if someone wants to stop the SEC's string of National Titles, they should beat them on the field in a title game. This isn't 1987. The title isn't given away by sportswriters.
  3. As to the point that the 6-1-1 scheduling in the SEC gives teams in a particular year a clearer shot to a National Title game, which I think was the original point of this discussion, I submit this: 2014 Ohio State University football schedule: Aug. 31: Buffalo (Ohio Stadium) Sept. 7: San Diego State (Ohio Stadium) Sept. 14: at California (Berkeley, Calif.) Sept. 21: Florida A&M (Ohio Stadium) Sept. 28: Wisconsin (Ohio Stadium) Oct. 5: at Northwestern (Evanston, Ill.) Oct. 19: Iowa (Ohio Stadium) Oct. 26: Penn State (Ohio Stadium) Nov. 2: at Purdue (West Lafayette, Ind.) Nov. 16: at Illinois (Champaign, Ill.) Nov. 23: Indiana (Ohio Stadium) Nov. 30: at Michigan (Ann Arbor, Mich.) It seems like you are trying to portray the SEC scheduling as giving teams some sort of unfair advantage that other conferences do not have. OSU is one of the favorites to reach the title game, and that schedule shows me a big reason why.
  4. There will be, that is unavoidable, but at least the B1G is addressing that by moving to 9 league games, which will help defray the impact the schedule can have. (The ACC isn't, but until they get a title-contending team to come out of the league, who plays whom isn't really relevant nationally.) When teams can get to the conference title game playing 2 teams with a pulse all season (Georgia last year and Alabama and South Carolina this year), that's not a good thing - except for the SEC's title streak, of course, which is why it won't change until somebody makes them, whether that's ESPN for SEC Network reasons or the playoff selection committee for SOS reasons. Wow. Ok. I know some of you guys really, really dislike the SEC and there are a few very valid reasons for that, but that's just insane. To say teams like Vandy, Ole Miss, Clemson or even Va Tech are without a pulse is just letting your emotions get in the way of logic. I can't stand Ole Miss but that is going to be a damn good team this year. They may beat out LSU for 2nd in the West. And the SEC's run on national titles won't end until someone beats them in the title game.
  5. To be fair, I don't think it matters where Alabama plays aTm. There's the motivational factor after last season, plus the Aggies lost half their starters from last year. I will be very curious to see how Vegas sets the line in that game. Sadly, I don't think anyone has a chance of beating Bama until the title game.
  6. Len suggested Sullivan for 2 interns from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Maybe if we threw in Reggie Golden.

  9. GDammit. Apparently FOX think everyone in New Orleans wants to watch Yankees v Red Sox. God I hate network tv.
  10. Maybe bad terminology on my part. All that said, Bushrod is pretty good, not great. That's better than what we have, which is suck, ala Charles Brown.
  11. I've seen tons of Bears games in the past few years. One of my best friends is from Chicago and I've seen quite a few. I never said Bushrod wasn't an upgrade, and in fact I'm sorry to see him leave town. I just hope you guys aren't thinking you're getting the caliber of left tackle that one would think when they see the Pro Bowl selections. He was beaten badly when he faced elite rush ends, and the lack of sacks can be attributed to Drew. He's got a knack for getting rid of the ball when he feels pressure. By "statuesque", I mean Cutler takes tons more hits than Drew, partly because of a shitty line, but also because he doesn't throw the ball away. Also, Drew always had a Sproles, Pierre Thomas, Ingram or Ivory to dump the ball to. This inflated Bushrod's reputation, IMO.
  12. Congratulations guys. Bushrod's departure from the Saints now means they have another gaping hole to fill. That said, a lot of people here were much more upset to see Carl Nicks go last year than Jermon go to the Bears. Many credit his success to Brees' quick release and pocket presence, not because he's a great pass protector. I am genuinely curious to see how he handles the turf, the weather, more of a running scheme and having to protect a more statuesque QB. In any case, it sucks for us.

  14. Nope, my point was just that I felt you were underestimating the physical toll of an SEC schedule, and that Vandy was a tough team. That coach is going to get a serious job someday soon. I don't know if you guys play Auburn this year, but they have passed Ole Miss as the worst team in the SEC. Hell, if we (Ark) had lost today we would be the worst. Kentucky is also awful.
  15. I guess I'm now a "told you so" guy. Not trying to gloat too much. Hell, look at my sig and avatar. My teams are a combined 2-8.
  16. I also was at the Dome Sunday for the Chiefs game, and I agree that the fans were as rabid as ever. But as many games as I have attended, this was the first time that I saw fans in the Dome with an almost fatalistic attitude. As soon as KC got that safety, I heard all around me something to the effect of, "We're going to lose this game." I haven't felt or heard that sense of doom since Aaron Brooks and Jim Haslett were here. I never thought I would miss Meacham, but teams have figured out that if you take away Jimmy Graham and pressure Drew so he doesn't have time to go deep, this offense becomes very pedestrian. Where the [expletive] has Colston gone? And what happened to the screen game? Losing Nicks was a huge blow and now Drew is trying to do too much. The only guy on defense who is near pro-bowl caliber is Malcom Jenkins. On WIST today they recalled our 1st and 2nd round defensive draft picks in the Payton/Loomis era: Jenkins, Roman Harper, Sedrick Ellis, Patrick Robinson, Johnny Patrick, Cam Jordan, Tracey Porter. Ugh.
  17. It is downright eerie the horrible parallels between my Razorbacks and my Saints. -disgraced offensive genius head coach...check -great quarterback with multiple offensive weapons...check -horrible defenses despite highly respected new defensive coordinator...check -inability to get off the field on 3rd down...check I guess I can always turn to WGN and check out the Cubs game. [expletive] me. At least Mike Anderson looks like he's got the BB team righted this year. Please.
  18. Interesting. I never like to rent a car when I make the trip up to Chicago, so is there a train or shuttle to and from Milwaukee? If so, anyone know where I could look for that?
  19. The Commissioner's authority under the CBA isn't the immediate matter before the judge. More at issue here is the defamation suit. Vilma is arguing that Goodell has sullied his good name with no evidence. The judge can rule that this case can go forward, and can also rule that Vilma can rejoin the team until it's all settled. She has scolded both sides for their handling of the situation, but is strongly leaning in favor of Vilma. She has no desire to rule in the case whatsoever and this explains the delay, hoping that a settlement can be reached over the weekend. I am good friends with someone who is present in every session who tells me that with no settlement, Vilma could rejoin the team on Tuesday. IMO, Goodell's hard evidence must be pretty flimsy if he isn't offering anything even now.
  20. Career ERA+: Shark - 94 Wood - 91 Volstad - 86 Germano - 83 Raley - 3.74 ERA/1.428 WHIP Jose Guzman - 102 Kevin Tapani - 101 Steve Trachsel - 99 Greg Hibbard - 98 Mike Morgan - 97 No Kevin Foster?
  21. Theo/Hoyer have said all along that it will take a full year to evaluate the organization. Maybe this is a part of that process, seeing what these guys really could be before the offseason.
  22. Outside of us watching to see how Rizzo, Vitters, etc perform, it's gonna be a long end of the season. EDIT: I just realized there really isn't an etcetera to care about.
  23. I disagree. Year after year the SEC has a solid if not dominating bowl record, speaking to the depth of good teams. We'll see. Oh good, we're using bowls to fight the conference pissing contest again. OK, the last 6 national titles have been won by 4 different SEC teams. Somehow this discussion went from thoughts on the SEC teams in the preseason Top 25 to my being a spokesman for the conference. I yield the floor.
