  1. This makes no sense. If the hard hit balls were outs, then didn't the Cubs get lucky? And he only gives up 2 runs without all the walks? So, we are throwing walks out for one pitcher while we have another in AAA for walking people? I know the rest of your post said something about retreads, but that makes this part make even less sense.
  2. Nice battle in the east. Half the division 3-2, the other half 2-3.
  3. I'm no longer a gamethread virgin. http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6006.jpg 4-0 3.16 ERA Ryan Dempster tries to resist the temptation to open that bottle and let the lightning out. vs. http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/8172.jpg 1-3 5.40 ERA While, Cueto tries to turn it around against a team that is very friendly to rookie pitchers. If the recent trend continues, this will be my only gamethread start this time around, as the Cubs have lost 2 games by 3 or fewer runs followed by a blowout win of 6 or more, for about 2 weeks now. Cincy sucks. Let's start another trend like early in the season. That was better than this. Go Cubs.
  4. Not unless he batted 30 times in the 1st 2 games of the season. By game 3, he was already sitting vs. a RHP.
  5. Love how the Celtics and their fans celebrated being taken to a 7th game by a 37 win team. Fortunately for them, they can win a title without ever winning a road game because they have home court throughout. Unfortunately for them, every team from here on out will not be the Atlanta Hawks. They'll still beat Cleveland, though.
  6. Wow the Cubs pitchers' streak of 7 straight seasons leading the majors in strikeouts is in serious jeopardy this year.
  7. Better rotation? Zambrano Lilly Marquis Dempster Lieber or Zambrano Hill Marshall Gallagher Hart At least Iowa should look pretty good with Hill, Hart, Ascanio, Cotts, and Murton.
  8. Kevin Hart is starting today for Iowa.
  9. It's honestly gonna be tough to root against Wellemeyer. Part of me hopes he gives up 3 thru 6, and the Cubs tack on a bunch on the pen and win going away.
  10. Ahh of course, he had a rough month in Sept and the playoffs, and that far out weighs his previous 5 months of above average pitching. That sure makes some sense. Yet, Lilly was worse in the playoffs and had a worse month of April, which the stat head in me figured out was more recent than September. I understand that not being able to find the strikezone is a lot different than being hit hard and it is a real problem. It just kills me that Rich Hill and Felix Pie, the cheapest and least experienced "starters" on the team, are publicly ridiculed for not performing after getting jerked around and sitting for several days. Yet, people performing at a lesser level are getting chances to get on track.
  11. Welly started off the season well going 25 innings in his first 4 starts, with 26 Ks and a 27/21 GB/FB ratio. Last 2 starts, he's thrown matching 4 run, 7 hit, 6 inning outings, and his GB/FB ratio has been a dismal 8/22. If he allows the Cubs to hit the ball in the air that often, his outing won't be that good. Obviously, Marquis needs keep the ball on the ground too.
  12. 25 pitches isn't bad, but when he threw 25 of them for no damn reason, and all the warmup pitches between innings, yes it could hurt him. FYP. I don't mind him getting 1 inning today, since he was the only guy that didn't throw yesterday. Those arms are valuable too, regardless of being lesser than Marmol. But you don't throw Marmol in the 9th. Put Marshall in, and you have all pitchers are your disposal tomorrow night. Marmol now may not be able to go tomorrow. But I'd imagine Lou would throw him in there, because it's a night game tomorrow. He wouldn't have to pitch til likely after 9PM CST, which gives him over 24 hours off.
  13. 25 pitches isn't bad, but when he threw 13 of them for no damn reason, and all the warmup pitches between innings, yes it could hurt him.
  14. Cubs Win! But Cubs lose tomorrow if it's a close game!
  15. Ladies and Gentlemen, we've found the NSBB version of the drunk bleacher bum throwing beer at opposing players. He may not be representative of an entire fanbase, but he's an embarrassing douchebag nonetheless... easy there, kiddo Are you suggesting that a drunk throwing beer at opposing players ISN'T embarrassing to decent Cubs fans? I'm talking about the bolded part. So was I. Nobody is suggesting that. We are suggesting that you calling another poster on the board a douchebag is against the board rules. Which it is. This discussion is over.
  16. Let's stop the namecalling in this thread. Calling another member of this board a name is clearly against the rules and completely uncalled for. While were at it, let's try to refrain from calling players, coaches, and GMs names also. Either way, it provides nothing of value to the board.
  17. True, but no teams are trading right now, unless the Brewers are willing to grossly overpay. Who said anything about right now? Milwaukee is in contention in the Central now with Gallardo and Sheets combining for 6 or 7 starts, Prince is not hitting, and Braun hit his 1st HR in almost 3 weeks. They are most likely going to hang around until teams are starting to deal.
  18. WTF! He's like the 19th best option. Who was taken off the 40-man to make room for him? Why not wait 3-4 days for Eyre? This move is dumb.
  19. Haven't the Cubs played well at New Busch since it opened? The only thing better than Busch is New Busch.
  20. Brewers have a lot of talent that could go on the block and net them a pretty nice arm. Gwynn Jr, Manny Parra, and I'd imagine if they are close they would give up one of Matt Laporta or Corey Hart to get a guy like Burnett, Penny, or Blanton.
  21. Why did the Illini lose players too? You guys were doing all the talking last year.
  22. What's his numbers if you take out balls that OFs should have caught had they taken better routes to the ball?
  23. Only if we plant a story that can get him arrested. In which case, I recommend we get him arrested right before the USC-UCLA game. :) There's a lot of safeties, but yeah Mays has Laron Landry size and skills and he went 6th, so unless the Bears suck this year or trade up, they aren't gonna get him.
  24. Soriano has a no-trade. And Bonds can't play LF or any other field. And yes, he is that much worse than Soriano, who counting yesterday's misplayed ball has misplayed about 3 balls in 7 months as a Cub.
